SSMS - Index build suggestion/recommendation

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi

Sometimes back we remember having used one feature within SSMS whereby after running a query, we can right click and get an option that recommends what index need to built for the query to perform faster. But as far as we can recall it is not 'Analyze query in database engine tuning adviser'. We are unable to recall what option was enabled or used. Can some help in finding that option. Thank you.

Auto Index Recommendation

Hi everybody,

While reading msdn blogs, I found one nice script from sql server query optimization team.That is for automating index recommedation. Here is the link.

herehttp://blogs.msdn.com/b/queryoptteam/archive/2006/06/01/613516.aspx

Is there anybody who has tried that one? If then pl tell me about it's results and pro & cons.

Thanks

Snehal

SSMS Table designer does not script index filters

Hi,

In SQL Server Mgt Studio (SSMS 10.50.1600.1, SQL 10.50.1600), under the table designer, when a table has a filtered index on it, if the modification does need to rebuild the table, the filter is missing on the index.

To reproduce the bug:

-          Create a table

datafile size increase after re-build index

In sqlserver 2008 r2(64*Enterprise),I have a 100GB SQL Server database and when I run a Database Re-Index the data file (mdf) increases in size from 100GB to 150GB.

How do I go about resolving the issue as once the
re-index is finished .

Use jQuery and ASP.NET AJAX to build a client side Repeater

By sending only data to the client, you can profoundly reduce the size of what you send and see a substantial increase in performance. You also allow yourself the ability to easily add features like light-weight sorting and paging on the client. This can not only improve your users' experience, but reduce server load and bandwidth requirements.

To that end, I'm going to walk you through these four steps to effectively implementing a client side Repeater, using ASP.NET AJAX and jQuery:

Run Button Behavior: Suggestion/Bug

Note: This could be a bug or considered as suggestion. I am not looking for solution.

1: I have ImageWatermark.cshtml open and currently in focus.

2: I have Photo1.jpg selected in left Files workspace.

3: Now if I Click "Run", instead of opening ImageWatermark.cshtml it trys to open Photo1.jpg and it fails.

So ideally I would expect the "open file (ImageWatermark.cshtml) to run rather than running the selection from Workspace.

build repository from SQL 2005? for a Linq, Jquery autocomplete

Hello,

  I have the a question am going about his correctly I have a database for categories, it has many fields and about 4000 records,  but with a Jquery autocomplete needing speed and the fact that I only need to return a key and category name. I did the following:  (oh just to note, MVC2, Ajax project)

someclass.cs

    public class categorySearch
    {
        public Guid Category_GUID { get; set; }
        public string Category_Name { get; set; }

    }

and now for the repository
Categoryrepository.cs

    public class categoryRepository
    {
        internal List<categorySearch> FindCategory(string searchText, int maxResults)
        {
            List<categorySearch> category = new List<categorySearch>();
            dbWebEntities storedb = new dbWebEntities();

            var getcat = storedb.Categories.ToList();

            foreach (var item in getcat)
            {
                category.Add(new categorySearch { Category_GUID = item.Cat_GUID, Category_Name = item.Category_Name});
            }

            var result = from c in category
                         where c.Category_Name.Contains(searchText)
                         orderby c.Category_Name

RSS implementation code - need suggestion

Please suggest what is the best approach of coding for RSS implementation,

Implementation 1:

a) Add custom handler in web.config for .rss type

b) Create a handler class (RSSHandler.cs) in APP_Code

c) Create a Sample.rss file

d) Browse Sample.rss in browser

Build succeeded but still shows as failed.

 I am able to run a build successfully on just the web site, but when i add the deployment project it shows failed (see below) but in the details it says build succeeded for the WDP build portion...so I am stumped as to by I am getting a failure. any ideas? I have set the build output to "Diagnostic" and dont see any failures or errors...so is there anything else i can do to find the problem?
