Learning SSRS, trouble installing

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I am learning SSRS.  I downloaded trail version of SQL Server 2008.  I bought MicroSoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services, Step by Step.  Second chapter is asking me to insert installation disk to install SSRS and do some configuration in IIS.  It is my understanding that the service use IIS to build web site where reports are rendered.

I can open BIDS and start new report project.  Did the service install too?  How can I check?  I do not have installation CD so not sure how to procede.

Am using Window XP Pro

Trouble installing SSRS 2008 R2, XP Pro SP3, can't access Web Service or Report Manager URLs

I found a great thread by Uday titled "SQL 2008 Reporting Services Win XP SP2" and worked through it, but I am still stumped.

I am using port 8080 cause this was default.  I tried changeing to 80, but it didn't help, so changed back.  IIS is using port 80 and is currently stopped.

I see both databases in SQL Server and can query while logged in as Account that is used for the service account.  SSRS is running.

URL reservations look good in the rsreportserver.config file.  In Native mode.

While in RS Config Manger I can test database connection and it is good.  When I click the webservice URL or the Report Manger URL in the Config Manager I get errors "Web site can not be found" and "Website can not display page"  I just upgraded to IE 8.  Can't figure out what to do next.

When I use httpcfg.exe I see a URL for http://+:8080/ReportServer/   and http://+:80/Reports/.  This could be the problem.  How can I chages seconfd to port 8080?

Any help would be appreciated.

Trouble Installing TFS 2010

Sorry if i come off as a little bit irritated but i have had a hellacious week. I originally got MOSS 2010 installed with no problem. It installed SQL Server Express 2008 which i didn't like but at least i got it installed (i already have SQL Server Enterprise 2008 R2 installed on this machine).  I then tried to install TFS 2010 and had all kinds of problems. Originally i got some type of error like: [08/22/10,18:08:48] Microsoft Team Foundation Server 2010 - ENU: [2] ERROR:Error 1304.Error writing to file: Microsoft.VisualStudio.QualityTools.CommandLine.dll. Verify that you have access to that directory. Spent the better part of 3 days trying to figure out whats going on. Didn't get much help from the forums so ended up having to figure it out by myself. I uninstalled MOSS 2010 and still got the same error above. I had to remove the application layer ____ that the sharepoint installer installed but didn't remove when i uninstalled the product. I was then able to install TFS with no problem. So apparently sharepoint was blocking something. I then wanted to start all over again so i uninstalled TFS and now of course sharepoint won't install cleanly. I get the following error when trying to install: Error: Command: 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\SERVER14\Server Setup Controller\dbwrap.exe' failed with error code: -2068643839. Type: 8:

installing SSRS 2008 R2 on a separate machine than the SS 2008 R2 database

I set up SQL Server 2008 R2 along with SSRS on a Windows 2008 server--let's call it "SQLDB"--and all's working fine.  I'm able to upload reports that are pulling data from the SQLDB databases.  There is no problem.

However, the operations dept. now tells me that a server with SQL Server installed absolutely will not be made available to the users and so I will need a separate SSRS 2008 R2 server (named "SQLRS") that pulls data from SQLDB databases.  Basically, I need to stop using SSRS on SQLDB and start using SSRS on SQLRS.  Makes sense to me, although I've never done this.

I'm confused about what services and components of SQL Server 2008 R2 need to be installed on which server(s).  Could somebody please point me to a page that explains it thoroughly or, if it's fairly simple, explain it for me here?

For instance, "SQLDB" has SSAS, SSIS, database engine, SQL Browser, Management Tools, and SQL Agent installed.

On "SQLRS", I installed SSRS, database engine, SQL Agent, SQL Browser, Management Tools, and SQL Agent.  Was it necessary to install the database engine, considering the data to be pulled is on "SQLDB"?  I read that the Agent is only required for subscriptions, but what about SQL Browser?  Is it only required on s

Trouble Using More Than One LIKE Operator in a Table Filter in SSRS 2008

Hello All,

I'm having what I'm hoping will be a simple issue -

My co-worker has created a large report which contains several tables in SSRS 2008.  Each table is tied to one dataset, yet only certain data can be returned to each respective table.  Right now he's applying filters at the table-level behind each table, however as you can imagine this is not efficient because there is a LOT of data returning for this report.

I'll try and give a simplified example -

There are two tables in the report body - one for containing products relating to both Cats and Dogs, and one for containing products relating to Birds.   Each product starts with the name of the specific animal - for example "Cats-Mouse Toy", "Dogs-Frisbee", "Birds-Rubber_Leaf".

Now I need to somehow filter out each product so that they go to their proper tables.  As mentioned above, my co-worker was creating a specific filter for each product, but this is proving to be inefficient.  For example, there are 52 different products for Birds alone.  That would mean 52 different filter entries for each product.  What I would like to do is use the LIKE operator but i'm not getting the results I want on the first table.

So, on the first table I need something like:  =(Fields!Products.value LIKE &

Trouble installing SQL Server 2008 Cumulative 4

I have a server that is currently at 10.00.2723 (CU3).  I want to patch it to 10.00.2734 (CU4).  The service pack installer tells me that it can not find an instance of SQL Server on the machine.

SQL Server 2008 Enterprise x64
Windows Server 2008 R2 x64
This is a VM using VMware

Any body have suggestions, run into this before, etc..?

Trouble installing SSAS 2008 R2

Hello all. I am installing SQL 2008 R2 SSAS on a Win XP Pro machine. All other components of SQL 2008 R2 installed just fine, but SSAS is giving me errors when trying to start the service. Error: Provider failure 0x80041004

It tells me to look in the Event log for details, but I don't see any entries in the logs that would apply.

What am I missing, What is going wrong? Where can I look for help?

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Installing and Uninstalling Services

Installing and Uninstalling Services.Unlike most projects you create in Visual Studio .NET, Windows Service projects cannot be run directly from the development environment by pressing F5. This is because the service in the project must be installed before the project can run.

You can quickly install your service application by using a command line utility called InstallUtil.exe.

Installing both VS Pro 2008 and VWD2008

I work at an educational institution and in our computing labs we have Visual Studio Professional 2008 installed already. One of our academics has requested me to install Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition as they think it's easier for their beginner students to learn, but I've noticed it wants to install it in the same folder as our Visual Studio Professional install.

Can both be installed without the limited VWD interfering with the Professional version?
