VBA to SSIS Migration

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hello Folks,

I am tasked to migrate a huge VBA application to SSIS. The VBA application reads the data tables, does huge manipulations and writes data to files and other tables.

I am new to SSIS and I am very much confused with the efficient control flow and data flow design.

To tell you in short, the VBA app loops the result set until the end of result set is reached. In between the loop there are many operations to fetch data from other data tables, file write operations etc.

Now, in SSIS, I can loop they data rows using a script component, but how do I invoke a Execute SQL task in between the execution of script component.?

I can create a source connection and output the result to a text file (separately), but how to do this in between when script component is running.

I hope you understood my problem !!

Please guide.. I know this is a bit design issue but I am not getting the right pointer

SSIS Migration error.s

Hi All

I have a SSIS package which was developed in Sql Server integration services 2005.

This package was deployed on Sql server 2005 as a Sql server agent job. Now the Server has migrated to Sql server 2008 so this package is failing to execute.

I checked the cause and it is because 1 component is failing.

The error message is something like "Could not get value for property 'c-152-designer-name'. Specified cast is not valid."

I think it is a Event handler written in SSIS.

Please Advice..

SSIS Package for data migration

I am very new to SSIS Packages. I have some requirement that I want to upload data from 1 table regularly  to another database over internet. If anything goes wrong it should send mail with error code.

Can somebody guide me to do that.

SQL Server 2005 cluster install with SSRS and SSIS - best approach for installs and migration?

I just installed SQLServer 2005 STD edition SP3 on an active/passive 2 node cluster, Intended to replace a SQLServer 2005 sp3 EE install (not clustered) that is in production now using SSIS and SSRS.  I would need to migrate the databases, reporting, and Integration Services over to the new server cluster.

1.    Does it make sense to run on a SQL Server 2005 on a cluster if SSIS and SSRS are not cluster aware? This is my 1st time adm

datatype tranformation issue in oracle to sql 2008 migration using SSIS

Hello friends

I am doing oracle to SQL2008 R2 migration and i want to use SSIS.

Oracle has mainly three datatypes DATE, VARCHAR2 and number.

I tried without using the transformation it worked but the datatypes like date did not changed to datetime in sql server, even the number datatype remain same.

secondly while doing very first time i got very weired name of the table on sql side.

Instead of going to dbo schema it shows the name like tom\myname.A_RETURNS.

So how can i resolve both the datatype and naming issue?

Thanks in advance..

SharePoint document migration challenges when migrating files and folders

There are several challenges when migrating documents to Microsoft SharePoint. While these challenges can be overcome, they are a real pain if the migration source, content and file systems are not SharePoint friendly.

Using Conditional Split data Transfer in SSIS 2008

This article uses the Integration Services Conditional Split Data Transformation element to filter and transfer data from a set of flat text files to SQL Server database table. The concept can be easily extended to apply to any other source or destination such as Microsoft Excel. This scenario is useful in creating denormalized database tables in a reporting and analysis situation.

Migration from ASP.NET 3.5 to 4.0

So, I just recently started to migrate my website from 3.5 to 4.0.   I am running in a bunch of issues but mainly 2 so far that have me stumped.

1. I have a custom URL rewrite module that I use, and it seems like it's being ignored to some extent.  It works fine if I run it through Visual Studio 2010 debugger, so I have no idea why it's not being fired.

2. In some of my pages, I reference a BasePage class instead of System.Web.UI.Page.  The ones that reference this BasePage class works fine, but when I use System.Web.UI.Page, I get : Object reference not set to an instance of an object when I try to create an object.

Any ideas?

Migration to .Net 2 and includes

I'm currently having a problem with one of our old .Net 1.1 applications. For generating the user interface, a lot of incude statements were used.

<!--#include file="includes/header.aspx"-->

In these includes, the variables from the parent files are used.

Now I have to use at least .Net 2 and Visual Studio 2010. The problem is that VS tries to compile these include files, which of course failes.

Is there any way to restore the old behavior again?

Controls: Plan Your Migration to the Visual Studio 2005 Navigation Controls

Navigation is central to a well functioning Web application and it can be implemented numerous ways using today's technologies. This article highlights some of the key details of the new navigation controls that are part of the upcoming ASP.NET 2.0, and talks about how to design and implement one of these navigation controls today. This article contains a simple Web site that demonstrates the use of these navigation controls, pointing out some of the key items such as a breadcrumb control and things to watch for along the way. The article then describes how to implement a breadcrumb control today.

.NET Migration Case Study: Using ASP.NET to Build the beta.visualstudio.net Web Site

When the Web site used to collect customer feedback about the Visual Studio .NET beta needed an update, the Visual Studio team saw a good opportunity to implement, deploy, and showcase a real-world site using .NET technologies. This article covers the migration of the Web site, beta.visualstudio.net, from components written in Visual Basic 6.0 and ASP hosted on Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0 to ASP.NET and the .NET Framework. The choices of technologies to be incorporated, along with issues such as validation, security, and authentication, are all discussed. Both existing components and the new components written in JScript and ASP.NET that were used to migrate the site are also explained.

site migration

Hi we are migrating a website from a proprietary system  to a new system built inSQL 2008.

We have created a lookup table that contain the UrlAlias of every individual page and its associate id. On every page request the new system has to query the lookup table with around 6,000 pieces of rows to get its id.

Now i am afraid of the load it would generate on our server and make the system slow?

Is there any work around of doing this using rewriter, regular expression etc

using SharePoint List for SSIS package

I need to use a sharepoint list as data source for SSIS package, it works fine until the sharepoint site implement Kerberos only (IIS 7) authentication, anyone knows how to get around this? thanks.

Migrate DB + files outside DB into SharePoint using SSIS and scripts

Hello, just wanted to ask a question about SSIS and SharePoint, any input will be greatly appreciated.... did search the forum but could not find anything....

So basically we have a SQL Server DB with the metadata ONLY, WITHOUT the related files(doc/ppt/pdf..etc) which should've been in the DB and they are on a separate web server inside folders. Each row in the DB has a key (column) which matches the related folder's name, so for row with ID #112, there's a folder named ID112 on the web server with the relevant files inside. There could be more than 8+ files for one folder.

Now, I think it is possible but just wanted to double check, would it be possible to use SSIS and some kind of a script to get the metadata inside the SQL DB AND the related files inside those folders, combine & relate them and upload them into SharePoint as a custom list with file attachments? would they display the attachment normally (like the paperclip icon in a sharepoint list...etc) I wonder if anyone has tried this...

Any guidance, thoughts, suggestions for other solutions, inputs will be great!!! Thank you!!
