Open document(s) in Office web apps (from User controls)

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi forum,

In my sharepoint application we are using Visual web part (with User control) to display document(s) stored in a Document Library of my sharepoint site.

And we WANT to open the document, from Hyperlink in Usercontrol, in Office web apps. Which could be done as suggested in following link

but the issue with that is it shows the Header & Toolbar which are not required in our case.

I tried playing with the below URL by adding variour request query string parameters like '&popup=1' . But No lock.

Currently i'm trying to find out OWA web part which does the needful for me.

Please share your opinion on the same. Any pointer on the same are warmly welcome.

Thanks in advance

Office 2007 Documents Open in Read-Only when Opening them from a WSS 2.0 Document Library

Hi, When any of our Windows 7 Pro computers that run Office 2007 Pro attempt to open a Word document that resides in a WSS 2.0 document library by using the drop down menu and selecting "Edit with MS Word", the documents open in read-only.  Our work-around is to save the document locally, modify it, and then save it back to the document library. We have some Windows XP and Vista systems that run Office 2007 and they are fine and can simply edit the document and save it.  We also have a handful of pc's that run Office 2003 and they are not having any issues either. Things I've tried: Office 2007 Repair - no luck Office Reinstall - no luck Some registry mod HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12\Internet\OpenDocumentReadWrite=1 (noted on a MSKB article) - no luck and after re-reading the article it clearly states that this will not address content hosted on WSS or SPS sites Clearing IE temp files, resttting IE to defaults - no luck Once again, this only seems to happen to Win7Pro pc's that run Office 2007.  Honestly, I can't tell if IE8 has anything to do with this. Any thoughts or help would be extrememly appreciated. Thanks, Mike

Document is read-only in SharePoint, but user sees "check out" option in Office 2007 / Word / Excel

I am finding that when there is a document library in SharePoint with checkin/checkout required, if a user with read-only ("Visitor") permissions opens a document from that library, the document will open as read-only in Word, Excel, etc., but the user will see the "Server Document" bar with the message "To modify this document, you must check it out" and the "check out" button.  When the user tries to check the document out, they are asked to authenticate, and then receive the error "Cannot perform this operation.  The file has been deleted or someone else has it checked out."    How is it possible to prevent a user with read-only rights in SharePoint from seeing the "Check out" option in Word or Excel?

Open Office Documents from Document Library without Password Prompt

We have a SharePoint site and Document library set up for anonymous access.   All non-Microsoft file types open correctly without a password.   When users click on Microsoft Office documents they are prompted for passwords.   Is there some way to configure the Office documents or Document Library so that users are not prompted for passwords when they open documents or is this a bug?

The document is locked for editing by another user" error message when you try to open a document in

We recently made checkin/out required for editing documents. So when ever a user uploads a document and when he tries to edit the document on clicking it by the same user. Its says

The document is locked for editing by another user" error message.

I don't know why this is happening. If you guys know anything about this message. Please let me know.

How to "Create New" document for Office Web Apps in SP2010?

I notice users can only upload their files (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and edit them. But is there a way users can CREATE NEW documents in Office Web Apps in SP2010?

Office Web Apps - Create new document in browser in IE

As you know, when one creates a new document in Google Chrome, you get to use the Office Web Apps to create the document (not Word). In Firefox and IE, this is not the case.  Creating a new document in Sharepoint opens Word (or excel, etc).

Is there a way to force IE and Firefox to use the same behavior as Chrome...and create the new document in browser using Office Web Apps?

Thank you in advance,

EditForm.aspx submit button prompts user to open/save document.

I'm not sure if anyone can help since I'm dealing with a slightly modified Edit Form and a custom work flow, but here it goes.

I am testing a SharePoint 2010 deployment which uses our 2007 production content database. Most of the database attachment process went okay, but I'm seeing something weird now on my EditForms. Whenever a user uploads a document to a particular document library, we send the user to an edit form to collect some meta data for some custom fields. As soon as you click the submit (OK) button, the form prompts you to open/save the file, as if you were trying to open it from the within the library. Once you handle that pop up, the form is then 'dead'. It doesn't redirect you as it should and the submit/cancel buttons no longer work (yet they are active).

Here's where it gets weird(er). If you try to upload a document from within the library itself, no problem. My issue only happens when you get to the upload page via a dataview of the library from a subsite (which is just a filtered dataview with a site specific filter, nothing too crazy). The link takes you to the normal OOB Upload.aspx just as if you were to get there from the document library itself, but for some reason navigating to it from the dataview (even though it takes you to the same page with the same list ID in the query string) the subsequent editform (again, same form

Error opening Office Open XML file when using SD workflow to create item in document library.

I have a Sharepoint document library that is using a word template with xml mapping (Word-Sharepoint).

I have a workflow created in Sharepoint designer that Creates an item in this document library with select data from a form library on the same site.

It appears to create the entry in the document library correctly, it is showing the copied data from the form library and the correct default data in the columns specific to the document library. The explorer view shows the filename.docx files.

I am able to edit the data using the datasheet view, however it will not open the word document.

The error message reads "The Office Open file <filename> cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents." If I click on the details button it states "No error detail available".

Any ideas?

UI Datepicker and web user controls

I have developed an application using the Master-Detail pattern described in this Matt Berseth article.

The only difference between Matt's article and me is that I am using a FormView object in place of a DetailsView.

Everything works fine except that the formview object, in my case it's inside a user control and I can't figure out how to use the jquery datepicker UI plugin.

I have tried to put the script block for the datepicker either in the aspx page as well as inside the user control but in both cases the calendar does not come up when the related textbox get the focus.

Any suggestion on how to work with the datepicker inside an ascx?

thanks in advance!
