Windows Management Instrumentation: Create WMI Providers to Notify Applications of System Events

Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) is based on an industry-wide standard for notifications used to manage objects and devices across a network. By receiving WMI events, an application can be notified of changes to data in WMI itself. This allows the developer to notify the consuming application that certain system configuration data has changed, without the application having to poll WMI continuously for this data. The author presents an explanation of the different types of events in WMI, then goes on to develop an event provider.

How to create single wsp for multiple projects sharepoint 2010 solution

We have multiple projects (4 projects) in single sharepoint 2010 solution. We want to create single wsp deployment for this. But when I right click on any project, it creates package means wsp on its own. How to create single wsp for multiple projects sharepoint 2010 solution? Is wsp builder which we are using for sharepoint 2007 project (works really great) also works in sharepoint 2010?

How to design centralized document management solution for Intranet

Our need: -SharePoint Server 2010 based Intranet with the document management solution.(about 200-300 documents) -All documents are centralized to one place -Managed metadata are added to every document. Metadata are used to search as well. -Folders are needed because of user permissions. Not everybody can open all documents. -Automatic item copy process to desired target place are desired to help end-user My design I planned this way, but did not work in practise. I created 1 centralized document library with several folders based on category. I user Content query webpart to display documents in other sites. This works fine. I wanted to automatic process to move added documents based on metadata. Example: When document include managed metadata "personnel" or "HR", the document is move to the folder named "Personnel". I made 2 different tests, but neither of them filled all requirements: 1. Using Content organizer, I was not able to make conditions based on metadata, but was able to move documents to the folders. 2. Using Workflow, I was able to make conditions based on metadata, but not able to move documents to the folders.   I failed to use metadata to move items to the Folder. Do you have any idea to me? I'm open to any ideas.Kenny_I

Create Custom Site Template & Deploy as Farm Solution

So I've seen a few posts and blogs about this, but nothing with the specific error I'm getting.  All I'm trying to do is create a custom site template from an existing site (now WSP), and make that custom template available in CA so I can create host-named site collections from that template in PowerShell.  Apparenly this was a lot easier in 2007, as you could just save your template as STP, and run some stsadm addsolution to get it in the farm.  With 2010, I've read there are 2 options:

  1. Install-SPWebTemplate
  2. Deploy via Visual Studio 2010

I've tried running Install-SPWebTemplate (which only takes CAB files), and NOTHING I do works.  I've created a cab from the WSP with makecab, I've renamed the WSP to CAB, and all I get is "cannot find or parse web template file".  So on to VS2010.

Using this article as a guide (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff408263.aspx), I created a new 2010 Import existing solution project, left all items selected, and the import was successful.  I made a change or two to the ONET.xml to fix some things, and then I just try to deploy it to the farm.  Whether I set the URL to the root intranet site, or the CA URL, I get deployment conflict errors:

"The URL or

How to create a report for In Place Records Management

I had a question on in place records management.  Is there a way to create a report to show all content that has been declared a record using in place records management?  I assume that the report would look at all content declared regardless of location of site.

Failed to create receiver object when deploying solution

I get the following error

Failed to create receiver object from assembly "MySolution, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=d398c9a30aa5e960", class "MySolution.Features.MyFeature.MyEventReceiver" for feature "MySolution_MyFeature" (ID: d159bf93-828b-44d6-a449-b1fe4b8c6066).: System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: type
   at System.Activator.CreateInstance(Type type, Boolean nonPublic)
   at Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPFeatureDefinition.get_ReceiverObject()

when deploying my solution using stsadm.

.\stsadm -o deploysolution -name MySolution.wsp -allowgacdeployment -immediate
.\stsadm -o execadmsvcjobs

If I redeploy it using the same stsadm commands again it works.

The feature event receiver is in a dll that is deployed in the GAC in the same solution.

This has worked before and I wonder if there is some way I can troubleshoot this

Solution Explorer in SQL Server Management Studio

Am I just out of my mind or does the solution explorer only list files in the order they were created? Is there any way to sort the list?  I'm trying to manage a database as a "solution".  It has over a hundred or so procs. If I can't alphabetize the list it is of no use to me since it's impossible to find a specific proc when they are not sorting in any logical way.  (Please keep in mind there are multiple developers working on this "solution" so the list if effected by all of them.)

I am trying to maintain some version control over the procs using VSS but it looks like I have to use a "solution" and "projects" to do that.

What kind of "solution" is this?

Is there any other way to do this?

how to create a Solution from an existing one already in Source Control

We are using VS Ultimate. One developer has created a solution (xyz) which is displayed in Team Explorer and Source Control Explorer. I want to create a local Solution using his existing Solution. How can I do this? I started with File/New Project. I gave it a name and it now displays in Solution Explorer as 'Solution 'xyz_solution' (0 Projects). Already existing in Source Control is a folder named 'xyz Solution'. I want to populate my solution with this? Thanks for any direction on this.

error with "Create new content" type Translation Management Library

I added the Translation Management feature today, using the following command line:

stsadm -o activatefeature -name TransMgmtlib -url http://mysite

everything seemed to work fine, as no error occurred at this stage, and when I go to my top level site settings, click on "Site libraries and lists", then "create new content" I now see "Translation Management" as an option.

I select this type, click Create, complete the first part of the 'wizard' (Name and Description, etc.), then I'm on step 2 and this is where the error occurs.

  1. The Workflow select box is disabled, and from the articles I've read this should be usable.
  2. More critically, when I complete this form and click Next, I get a server error:

Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that <machineKey> configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster.

I've googled around, and tried updating various items in my web.config and machine.config, but I cannot find the solution. A lot o

SQL Management Studio - Quick Create Local Server Groups (Registered Servers)

We have a lot of SQL Servers, and sometimes we need to run ad hoc queries against multiple servers at once.

Usually I add each server that I want to query under Registered Servers > Local Server Groups in SQL Management Studio. However this can become time consuming.

What I want to achieve is to be able to import a large list of Servers at once, either via a script or xml builder that can achieve this for me.

Has anyone already done this, or can they point me in the right direction?
