Alert for Security Groups not working

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I am trying to set up an alert on SharePoint to go out to everybody in an AD Security Group. I encountered the problem that the initial "Alert Created" email went out to everybody, but after that the actual alerts don't get sent. Googling this problem has taken me to a lot of sites with a similar problem, but unfortunately I haven't found a solution that works for me.

It seems one of the key points is that the Security Group needs to be added to a SharePoint Group that has got access permissions to the list I am trying to alert on. I have done that. I have added the AD Group to a SharePoint Group that has got read, view and contribute permissions to the list. But still no success.

I have added an individual alert for myself and that comes through just fine. But the alert to the Security Group just isn't being sent.

Am I missing something else?

SSRS custom security extension behind a router fire wall not working

I have a instance of SSRS 2008 installed (we are not using IIS) with custom security extension which accepts a application user ID and password and sends back a sql authorization cookie back to client for logging into SSRS.  The (SSRS) server is behind a router,  SSRS is configured on port 81,  Port 81 in router if forwarded to the SSRS server. Here is the problem If I am inside the router firewall (RDP'ed to the machine) I am able to access report server (http://xx.xxx.xxx.xx:81/ReportServer) and reports manager (http://xx.xxx.xxx.xx:81/Reports) without any issues. If  am outside the firewall and try to go to report server page (http://xx.xxx.xxx.xx:81/ReportServer) from browser and try to login it works (I am getting the cookie back and authentication goes through fine).   But if I try to access reports manager (http://xx.xxx.xxx.xx:81/Reports) the login page shows up when I enter user ID and password and hit enter to authenticate it comes back to the login screen (I am not gettint the cookie back from SSRS). Any help is highly appreciated on how to debug /fix this issue. Note : if I first login to Reportserver (which sends the cookie back) and in the same session I login to Reports Manager I am able to get into Reports Manager page since I got the cookie when I logged in to reports server page already.  When I

how to disable creation of security groups as part of site provisioning for out of the box

New Item Added to List/Library trigers Alert to non-AD Security Group

I am trying to implement an alert when a new item is added to a list. Idealy this alert would be sent to either a SharePoint Group or a AD Distribution Group. I do not have access/authroization to create security groups. The research I have found so far tells me that I can only add AD users and AD mail-enabled security groups through the alert GUI. My questions is first is this a valid finding? Second, if I create a custom workflow can I have the workflow triger on new item added and have it send a notification to the specified SharePoint/Distribution group? Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Menu - Role security not working on second level of sitemap

I have role assignments on both the first and second level of my menus within my sitemap file.  The first level works fine, and I only see items assigned to my role.

But roles assignments seem to have no effect on the second level.  It seems like if you have access to the first level, you have access to everything on the second level.

Is this correct?

From my sitemap (either a SalesRep or an Administrator can see everything underneath):

    <siteMapNode title="Administration" roles="SalesRep,Administrator" description="Admin" >

      <siteMapNode title="CompanyMaintenance" roles="SalesRep" url="~/Admin/CompanyManagement.aspx" />

      <siteMapNode title="Initialize Roles" roles="Administrator" url="~/Admin/Roles.aspx"/>

From my config:

    <roleManager enabled="true" defaultProvider="SqlRoleProvider">

User Profile Service not returning security groups

I just got the User Profile Service working, and tried using GetCommonMemberships but I am only getting Distro lists and Sharepoint groups.  No security groups (Domain Local, Global, Universal) are showing up.

I did come across one post where someone was not running in Native mode AD, its possible since I *JUST* ADPrepped and added a 2008 DC today that I'm back in a mixed mode and that is the problem...?  Seems weird tho.   Just checked on the new 2008 DC it says Windows 2003 mode or something along those lines

Sharepoint itself is able to see and use the security groups.  If I change permissions on a List or library, I am able to select security groups.  It seems specific to the User Profile Service.

A little more looking... it seems that DL's show up, and Universal security groups show up.  Domain Local and Domain Global security groups do not.

working with Active Directory groups

I don't know much about active directory groups and programming with AD.  Now I am working on a project which will have 5 to 6 links to otherweb pages and I want to give access to these pages based on the logged in users.

So I am implementing a administration project to give access to these web pages and planned to keep all the application names in one table and all the users in another table. When ever a person or group needs access to a single project, I want to add them through another screen linking users to applications and store it in a table. When user tries opening the web page in the project then it needs to verify the logged in user in the table and display the project if it has a entry for the user with the application.

I am planning to implement some thing like below

Applications Table

Users Table

Link Application to User

When user logs in verify the above table to check if user with the application is available and display the web page required.

To do this I need to store all the employees details in the company from different AD groups into the users

sharepoint security groups, ACL of site collection or subsite need to move in to sql server 2008 usi

HI Team,

I am new to sharepoint here is my query. i am working on MOSS 2007, SQL server 2008

I want to move the sharepoint security groups, ACL(access control list), user groups all the security and permission related data to sql server 2008 from a particular site collection or subsite. After getting the data in to sql server we should be able to update the users from sql server itself which should reflect in sharepoint sites.

Domain groups in Cluster Security policy during install of SQL Server 2008

I am trying to install SQL Server 2008 on Windows server 2003 and have a question about the stage of 'Cluster Security Policy'.

We need to select 2 groups here, one for SQL server database domain group and the other for SQL server agent domain admin group.

My question is, is it different from service accounts that we used to specify in previous versions? I remember the wizard asking for service account that the sql services need to run under. Is this domain group part a replacement for those individual service accounts? If yes, do I need to have the service account added to a separate group and select that group in this part of 'Cluster security policy'?

Alert Me not working for AD group users

I have an AD Group. I have added this AD group to the permission level for list and the site that contain the list. These people were awarded the rights I set for the group and they are able to access the site and list. They are able to edit and change list as they have contribute rights. Only thing missing is the notification, when these people set an Alert me on the list, they receive the email stating their registration for the notification. Though, when they go and change the content of the list they receive no email notification. What is weird is that when I add users manually to SharePoint group all works fine. I have many users in my AD group. I would prefer to use my AD group. I have checked that AD group security list is email enabled and that exchange server does allow reception to everyone.  The Ad group list is working as I can send an email to all people within the Ad group. I looked at the log there were no related errors to the notification. I know that registration emails are handled, differently than alert emails as alert emails are handled by the timer job I checked if the timer job is ok too.

Need help setting up a Custom Security Trimmer, CheckAccess method not working.

I'm implementing the custom security trimmer for SharePoint server as outlined here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee819923.aspx

I have been able to successfully deploy the solution on to the server, but know I need to write the script that will check whether users have access to particular documents or not. The code in the walk-through is the following:

public BitArray CheckAccess(IList<String> documentCrawlUrls, IDictionary<String, Object> sessionProperties, IIdentity passedUserIdentity)
            BitArray retArray = new BitArray(documentCrawlUrls.Count);
            //Use passedUserIdentity to get the identity of the user who issued the query.
            IClaimsIdentity claimsIdentity = (IClaimsIdentity)passedUserIdentity;
           //IClaimsIdentity is defined in Microsoft.IdentityModel.Claims;
            for (int x = 0; x < documentCrawlUrls.Count; x++)

linq not working on shared server with Medium Trust security

On my PC everything is all rigth but on the webserver I get an error: 'OrderBy' is not a member of 'System.Array', maybe due to the trust level.
Is there I way to bypass this or I have to resign myself to it?

SharePoint Standard Security Groups

I am new to this forum so I am sorry if this is a repeat....in one of my environments that I am using to create a SharePoint site for a client the Standard Security Groups got deleted. Can I reference my other environment and recreate the groups and make the associations by using the "View Group Permissions" or am I better off starting with a new site collection?

Thank you.
