SharePoint 2007 Designer, create a meaningful subject

Hi all,

I am trying to create a custom workflow to send an email based on certain criteria.  I would like the subject of the email to be [Item Title]+"has been modified", or something like that.  I can choose the field in the Function, but I can't add any wording before or after the field name.  I also tried to use every syntax I can think of in the subject line to create it, but all I get is my code I entered not want I wanted to see.

Can this be done?

Access Denied while using Sharepoint designer 2007 to create a work flow

I am using Sharepoint Designer 2007 to create a work flow that sends emails to different people in a group depending on status of a record. For example, when some one reports a problem, an email is posted to concerned person and as soon as he/she checks the problem and updates the status an email is sent to next department and so on. Starting the work flow creation wizard is no problem but as soon as I press 'Finish' to create workflow I get 'Access Denied' message box. Any Ideas? I am using WSS 3.0 on 2003 Server.

Sharepoint Designer 2007 - Workflows stopped and can't create custom NewForm or custom EditForm


Everything was working great until the last few days when I made the SP site more robust. I am now ready to create a custom New Form so that my "requestor" doesn't have to deal with all of the fields. I want to create a custom Edit List so that I can hide all of the flags that get tripped while completing workflows. This morning I tried to create the NewForm (as I have done in the past) but nothing loads. I tried creating it with a different list, and it loaded fine so I know it has something to do with my list. I tried executing workflows so that I might be able to narrow down the problem, but now no workflows work even though they did a couple of days ago.

One of the items added as a "pause until" workflow. I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. I also have roughly 85 fields. I haven't seen anywhere on the blogs that the number of fields is an issue but you never know.

Can anyone help? Please?

How to create a multi-stage workflow in SharePoint Designer 2007


Hello everyone,

I'm new at creating workflows and have only created a very basic one. I was handed a task and creating the following workflow and I have no ideal on what to do.

Here is what they want to happen.

 The user submitts the form and depending on what he chooses in the Segement Report Access field will determine on who it goes too. The user can choose multiple options. The options are our 4 divisons. Each division has one approver assigned to it. We created a list for this and then in the form it's a look up value.


The user choose two of the four options. (Sheet and Color) So the workflow needs to send and e-mail to the Sheet user to approve the request and it needs to send another e-mail to the Color user to approve the request. Now if they both reject it, the workflow would stop and send a message to the user saying your request has been rejected. But if one user approves it and the other one rejects it, it needs to go to the next step, which would be sending an e-mail to the user who sets up the account. They want him to be able to see which parts were approved and which parts were not approved.

Once he's setup then we need to send an e-mail to the requester saying that it's been approved.

Sorry if they is long, I just have no ideal where to start or how to start this.



Trying to send email using Sharepoint Designer 2007 workflow and email enabled list


I have a a list that recieves email. I have few fields that shows me the originator: "E-Mail From" and "E-Mail Sender".

I am trying to create a workflow that will generate an auto reply to the originator but the SPD fails to recognize the email address in these two fields. It's either truncating part of it or uses the html ( href=mailto:Demo@DemoSomething.com) in the To field.

How to Establish a Remote Web Site Connection in SharePoint Designer 2007


I am modifying a SharePoint site and so far so good.  Some of the objects were created using Visual Studio 2008 (C#).  I was able to modify these objects and implement them on the targete machine without issue.  The final step is to implement the ASPX pages that were modified using SharePoint Designer 2007.  These are aspx pages that are used to modify items in lists.  All the pages involved in this upgrade are customized.  I need to upgrade the target site with the modified version of these pages.  My intent is to copy the code from the page in the source site and past it into the same page on the target site.  I tried using the Remote Web Site connection tool in SharePoint Designer 2007 but received the following error message:

"Unable to open 'https://(site address)'.  Server Error:  Could not find a Web server at 'website'.  Please check to make sure that the Web server name is valid and your proxy settings are set correctly.  If you are sure that everything is correct, the Web server may be temporarily out of service."

I am not sure how to first check to see if the Web Server is temporarily out of service.  I would appreciate your input on how to verify this.

Background information of target machine:  WinServer 2008, IIS 7, Sharepoint (MOSS2007), site on port 80

How to create scrolling table for columns in a SharePoint Designer Data View


I have a fairly complex SharePoint Designer 2007 Data View they have added two more requirements.

1. Have the columns on the right side be able to scroll left to right as there is a large number of columns, while the first 3 columns on the left side stay locked in place.  This is only one list not two, and because of some other requirements I have it must remain to be just one list.

2. Then they also need to have scrolling up and down of the entire list with the headers locked in place.

The first requirement is more important than the second, but preferrably I need to do both.

I am new to XSL so not familar with the syntax. Is this something I can do on a custom Data View? Does anyone have any examples of how?

I have a drawing that show how it needs to look but I don't see an option here to upload a graphic.

What is the best way to Create Ageing Report in SharePoint 2007?


Hi Experts,

I need your point of view about this and please advise,

My client have made a request to generate Ageing Report thru their SharePoint 2007, FYI all invoice was scan and upload to sharepoint and save as PDF file under Document Library. During the scan, certain information will capture automatically and save it into field that we defined inside the Web Form.   

Below is the basic input we capture:

Vendor Code, Vendor Name, Invoice Number, Invoice Date, Currency, Invoice Amount

Report Requirement (display list and group of:)

- Vendor Code, Vendor Name, No. Of Invoice, Total Payable, Ageing 0-30, Ageing 30-60, Ageing 60-90, Ageing>90 

So my question is, what is the best platform to create this Ageing Report??

because when i try to design the report thru Visual Studio (Reporting Services), i can't identified which database should i connect and which table is store all the invoice information in SharePoint.

Any idea guys?? anybody have implemented it before??


Problem with SharePoint Designer 2007 and Custom List Forms


I created several forms (Create/Edit/View) for a SharePoint list, using Custom List Forms.  I'm using Content Types in the list to ensure that each item only has the necessary fields.  When I created the ASPX forms, and inserted the Custom List Forms, I selected the correct Content Type, and I got the right fields inserted in the form.

Now, for some reason I can't identify, every time I create a new form, and insert a Custom List Form, SPD is bringing ALL fields from the list, instead of just bringing the fields included in the selected Content Type.

I have tried many different things to solve the problem, including creating new lists/content types/forms, etc. but SPD is doing the same thing all the time.

Can somebody tell me what may have gone wrong in SPD or MOSS?

hi, i have created a new list using sharepoint designer 2007. now i inserted a custom list form to modify some field and add new ones. when i finished i will tight my new custom list to the custom form. what i want to know is. i see the status field in my new form. and i only want the status field to appear in the edit form for the one that has the permission to edit the status. then i tought of open the list in my browser and go to the list settings. but what i notice is i dont see my fields i have modified in sharepiont designer in the columns section i only see the ones from the existing list. my question is how can i hide the status field in the new item form that it only show in the edit form. and how do i get my new form in the column section so the end user can add more fields if they want without using sharepointdesigner thnx

SharePoint Designer 2007 Workflow needs to initialize lookup field value and store it

This is for a governance tracking list. I have two tables: Roadmap and Roadmap Status In Roadmap, there are two fields of interest that are lookup fields to Roadmap Status:Title they are Status and OldStatus When an item is entered in Roadmap, I want to force the initial Status to "Submit" from Roadmap Status. I don't see any way in my workflow to to lookup that item in Roadmap Status and place the pointer (I'm assuming it is a GUID) into the field. The value is also stored in OldStatus to catch changes as I'm trying to force order of status in a few cases but not all. I'm doing it with a Lookup instead of Choice because the business tends to change the terminology they like and this way I don't change it in several places plus it allows them to change it in the list instead of someone changing the list field values. I've seen several places on the forum where people have a similar problem and Lambert Qin has given an answer but it never fits this scenario exactly. Do I have to go back to Choice columns? I only have Designer and would rather not have to learn another tool for a simple SharePoint implementation. Thanks for any help!

Problem create a web application on SharePoint 2007 (Project Server 2007)

I installed a Project Server 2007 in a 3 server structure (all Win 2003 sp2; one for App server hosting Central Admin, Project Server service & Search service; one for web server; one for database server).  They are only in the same domain and I use the same network account for the installation as well as the WSS service account.  The same network are local admin for those 3 servers. All installation & patches seem ok (at least I don't get error messages) until I attempt to create my first Web Application.  After I filled out the web appliction and try to click OK, the page does not change and i saw the java error at the right bottom corner from my IE browser (version 6). The message is .... Sharepoint Designer 2007 Variable Data on a form

I am a lifetime COBOL programmer trying to make a new career in a Sharepoint world. I am working on a project where I have created a list of Employees.  Almost all of the employees on the list must update their status on a day-to-day basis. A view was created on this list using [ME] as the search criteria to only return the employee who is updating his own info. With Sharepoint Designer 2007 I created a custom form. I cut and pasted the code for the view that I described above and then created a series of buttons to allow the employee to choose a status. For each button, I built a workflow to do the specific updates to the employee's list line. I was able to set up an onclick event for each button to execute a Javascript function that would go to the webpage and start the workflow.  I got the actual workflow URLs from the Sharepoint Intranet webpage after I completed each one. Here is my problem (and it is probably my inexperience that has got me stumped); The URL that is fed to the Javascript function has a hard-coded number representing the ID field of the Employee list (that is what probably sets the "Current Item" in the workflow.  I can see that the listview from above the buttons has the ID field as one of its Fieldrefs.  How can I substitute some kind of ID variable in the set of parameters that is fed to the Javascript? 

Conditional formatting on a joined subview using SharePoint Designer 2007 does not work

I have 2 SharePoint lists, one is a parent task list and the other a child task lists.  In SharePoint Designer 2007 I have created a combined datasource from these 2 lists.  From there I created a new ASPX page inserting the parent list as a dataview and the child as a subview.  So far so good, all is functioning as you would expect.    Now I need to apply conditional formatting to cells and rows in both the parent and child lists.  I can create a very simple condition on a row or cell of the parent list such as "If ID Equals '2988' format the background color as green" but no conditional formatting appears for the row where ID = 2988.  Incidentally, if I change the condition to "not equals 2988" the background changes to green. The line in the code view of Designer appears as follows:  <xsl:if test="../../../Rows/Row/@ID = '2988'">background-color: #00FF00;</xsl:if> I've seen this question asked here and in blogs but never answered.  If anyone has a solution, I would love to know what it is. Thanks; Dave  UPDATE:  it doesn't seem to matter if you add the additional fields as a joined subview or not.  If I add 2 data views, both using the linked data source which is configured to JOIN the contents of the data sources the conditional formatt

MOSS 2007 - SharePoint Designer Workflow failing when using group vs individual user

I am creating a simple workflow in SharePoint designer that will email a selected user when a list is modified.  I am applying the condition "if modified by" in Designer.  This condition works fine and the email is sent when I select a specific user myDomain\username.  It does not work when I attempt to associate a SharePoint group with the "if modified by" filter. In my example the list has only one SharePoint group associated with it, this is the only group with permissions for the list.  The group contains multiple users. The workflow is successful with the following scenario: if modified by myDomain\user1 or if modified by myDomain\user2 The workflow fails with the follwoing scenario: if modified by mySharePointGroupName  (which includes myDomain\user1 and myDomain\user2) This would be an ungodly if statement with a large membership SharePoint group.  This would also be a nightmare as people leave the organization and their account credentials are left in the large if statement in the workflow.  Looking for the modified condition when associated with a group seems like the logical way of doing this. I also tried "myDomain\domain users" which accounts for all user in my domain, this failed as well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
