Is there any solution to create a custom look up column that get the data from lists in different site collection that are different content DB?

Is it possible, through the UI or with  Designer 2007, do create a Lookup column that gets its data from another site within the same site collection?  If not, can you recommend any FREE third party tools to do this?  Thank you.

I m planning to create a feature to install the content type and site colomun at site collection level. Now my doubt is? 1. what will happen when i de activate a feature with documents already there? 2. what will happen when i de activate a feature without documents? What are points i need to take care? 

Is there any way to populate an InfoPath form field with the data from the site content type column?

  

I have a Form library with a form template.

The templat has a field "Office name" which should not be a fixed list of values, but a dynamical list, feeded from a different type of form. I'm a novice with InfoPath - Sharepoint and I want to find out, how can I can give users a possibility to create and maintain a list of offices and also have this list as a selection list inside main library form - ALL inside one library, if possible.

I assumed that if I publish main form (Itinerary) as a library template form and lookup form (OfficeInfo) as a SiteContent, I should be able somehow to connect to siteContent column and it's information. But I cannot see how - Site Content Gallery is not appering as a Connection item.

Can I use SiteConenct for this purpose or there are other ways to create end-user lookup lists?

Create Lookup Site Column based on External List (SharePoint 2010)

  

I've got an External List and I want to create a Site Column, which is Lookup to a column in my external list. If I tick any of the columns in 'Add a column to show each of these additional fields' and click OK i get the following error message:

Cannot delete certain site column(s) from new content type

  

Hello,

I make a new content type, based of event.

If I add the (existing) site columns, Active, Aliases, Article Date, Byline (and some others?), these columns cannot be deleted afterwards!

is there a workaround ?

P.S. After testing, this also happens in 2007.

I know the account I am using has enough access to the sql server (used this account to install sharepoint). I am guessing it is complaining because it can't find the database.

WSS 3.0 Cross Site-Collection List Lookup

  

Hi all

New to Sharepoint here, so apologies if the question is unclear.

We would like to store centralised reference data in a dedicated site-collection and allow it to be accessed from other site-collections using list lookups. Can anyone recommend a webpart that would allow us to do this? I've found lots of cross-site list webparts, but not for crossing SC boundaries. Is there an OOTB feature that we could extend to achieve the same thing?

Content Type or Lists Lookup Column can't show additional fields which are Choice or lookup columns

  

I am trying to create some content types, but this also happens when creating new columns in a list.

Ok, here is my setup (which is the most basic way to replicate the issue):

List 1: Department List
Columns: Department Name (Single Line of Text)

List 2: Document Owners
Columns: Document Owner (single line of text), Department (Choice or Lookup from Department List), Email (single line of text), Lookup Field (Calculated).

Content Type: Quality Document
Columns: File Name, Title, Document Owners (Lookup from Document Owners List), Email (pulled in with Document Owner), Then i want to also pull in Department from the Document Owners list.

That is where my problem is.  When i select the Document Owners List as the list to get the information from, there isn't the option under "Add a column to show each of these additional fields" to pull in the Department column.  This occurs if i use a Choice in the Document Owners list, or if i do a lookup from the Department List.

My preferred method of implementing this system would be to have a multi-value lookup field in the Department List for Document Owners so that the Owners are attached to the Department, and if the owners change for the department they also change for the document that is for said department.  But, i run into the same issue that i c

Site content type's column with wrong field type that was created once will not work if re-created

  

I've created the column 'MyDescription' with type 'Multiline Enchanced Text' in my custom content type derived from 'Page'. But later I understood that 'Publishing HTML' is better for me. I've removed the 'MyDescription' column and recreated 'MyDescription' with type 'Publishing HTML'.

Page layout for my custom content type uses this code to display field

<PublishingWebControls:RichHtmlField FieldName="MyDescription" runat="server"/>

But page falls without any error information. I've deleted and recreated page: it fell always.

When I created column 'MyDescription1' with 'Publishing HTML' type in my custom content type and changed code to this

How to Specify Content Database for a Site Collection Restore from Backup

  
Hello,

I have prepared code that first creates a new Content Database within a specified Web Application, then restores a Site Collection backup to that same Web Application.  Unfortunately, the Restore doesn't provide an option to select the Content Database that was just created.  So, is there something that I might do to ensure that the Site Collection gets restored to the Content Database of my choice, programmatically?  If not, is there something I can do to change the Content Database for the newly restored Site Collection?  All ideas would be appreciated.

Wss v 3 site collection - can't add /change /edit any content

  

Hi guys,

I have noticed a very strange thing in my wss v 3 site. Since a few days Nobody can add / modify / delete contents of site. Site actions button give only Site settings options, Not like before edit page etc, View all site content does not show Create button. Any document library or list does not shpow anything but Actions button.  It is clearly a lost permission issue, however  when I checked and rechecked all of those are correct. I'm even login as an administrator which is listed as site collection admin and nothing. STSADM.EXE" -o backup -url let me do a backup however option restore give access denied HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED). Of course I'm running as site collection admin. Where to look for answers ?


Reset site collection content types

  

Hi,

I have a "Test Document" content type inheriting from the default "Document" content type which, in turn, inherits from "Item". The "Test Document" is a MS Word template document (as is "Document").

I went into the "Site Settings" of the site collection, selected "Site content types" -> "Document" -> "Advanced Settings" and while the "Update all content types inheriting from this type" was set to Yes, I clicked OK.

Now when I go back to the documents library and open the "New" menu to create a new document, both the "Document" and the "Test Document" logos are changed to plain icons (not the MS Word icons it had before) and when I click it I get the "Upload Document" dialog.

Is there a way to restore the site collection's content types to their default settings?
