Windows Explorer View opening incorrectly

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

One of my users is experiencing an issues with opening the windows explorer view in Sharepoint. At first she was having an issue with opening pdfs. One of our help desk associates noticed she had both Adobe Reader and Acrobat installed so he uninstalled Reader and that seemed to fix the issue with opening pdfs. The user then called back to report that Windows Explorer is opening as a "website" when launched from sharepoint.

I had the help desk install the Software for Web Folders update at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=17c36612-632e-4c04-9382-987622ed1d64&displaylang=en  then I had them install the 2007 Office hotfix available at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943337/en-us as suggested in another post. These installs did not fix the issue and she is also unable to drag and drop files from explorer view and create shortcuts.

We are using..WSS 3.0, Windows XP Pro, Office 2003, IE 6

This seems to only be happening for this

Issue with opening SharePoint library in Windows Explorer view

I am having trouble opening a document library in Windows Explorer view. The portal is MOSS 2007. I have installed Office 2007 and IE7 on my computer. The error that I get is
"Documents in this folder are not available. The folder may have been moved or deleted, or network problems may be preventing a connection to the server."

Windows explorer view doesn't work on Windows 7

We are running Office SharePoint 2007 with SP2 on windows 2003 server. All windows 7 with IE 8 gets this message: " Please wait while Explorer View is loaded. If Explorer View does not appear, your browser may not support it". when click Windows Explorer in View. All Vista and XP work fine. I have tried these: 1. Added the SharePoint site on a Trusted Site. 2. Web Client is set to Automatically start, and that it is started. 3. We have Office 2003 installed on all computers. 4. We also tried to enable Comtability View. SharePoint 2007 - Windows 7 - Explorer View (Leaves a copy in recycle bin)

Hi All, I am facing a strange problem with SharePoint 2007 & Windows 7. I open an existing word document from my PC(Windows 7) and click "save as" and provide a SharePoint document library file path (\\machinename\sitename\DocumentLibraryName) and save the file. The word file becomes visible in the Shared document library, BUT it leaves a copy in the recycle bin of the SharePoint site. Works Normal from Windows XP PC. Any clues. Would greatly appreciate anybody's effort. Regards KCM

Your client does not support opening this list with Windows Explorer

Good Morning,

I hope someone has found a solution for this issue.  I have tried a lot of suggestions found on the internet but none have fixed my problem.  I have lots of users that are running Vista SP2, and sharepoint server 2007 running on windows 2003.  When my users choose "Open with Windows Explorer", they receive the error "Your client does not support opening this list with Windows Explorer".  They are running IE 8 and all windows updates are up to date.  I have also checked to ensure that the 'WebClient' Service is started on the SharePoint Server.  My windows XP workstations are just fine.

Thanks, Dale

Allow Dragging virtual files from list view like windows explorer

I am working with a desktop application developed in C#. A form in this application lists all files/folders from the computer drives. Users can drag/drop files/folders between the windows explorer and this form. The users can also drag files from this form (that contains virtual files list in a dot net listview control) onto [Adobe Actobat Professional] main window and the Adobe Acrobat opens the file in it properly.

But when I the users drag files from the form and drop them on the [Combine Files] window of adobe professional, it shows a cross (X) mouse icon that defines that the dragged items cannot be dropped on this window (Combine Files form).

Visual Studio closes itself by opening aspx-Page designer after Windows Update

Hey Guys,

I've a problem with my Visual Studio.

On the 13th of August 2010 i installed a Windows update on my vista sp2 pc. For this date my Visual Studio 2008 sp 1 always has closed itself by opening an aspx-page in designer view. There is no error message just closing the window. I restored a backup of my windows from the time before updating it and it helped, i could open aspx pages in the design view till the update has been installed again automatically after rebooting the pc. I can't disable windows updates, cause it's my pc at work and safety is very important. I hope you could help me out of this disaster.

Windows Shell: Create Namespace Extensions for Windows Explorer with the .NET Framework

Extending the Windows shell with namespace extensions allows you to create some custom functionality for Windows Explorer. One common use is to enable Explorer to present a list of items that do not exist in one real folder, but actually reside in a number of places. The view on the folder makes it look like these items are in one place, so managing them becomes easier. This article illustrates the process of creating custom shell namespace extensions using C# and the .NET Framework. The author dispels some myths about the difficulty of writing such extensions, and shows that it is easier than it was before .NET. Along the way he outlines undocumented interfaces and describes advanced techniques for consuming them in .NET.

More Windows 2000 UI Goodies: Extending Explorer Views by Customizing Hypertext Template Files

The Web-style interface is the default Explorer folder view for the Desktop Update in Windows 2000. The Desktop Update uses HTML-based hypertext templates to create the Web view, and you can customize these templates to include your own views and commands. This article shows you how the Explorer Web view works and how to build your own custom templates for it. You'll see how to add a command prompt and task buttons to a new folder view using HTML, script, and ActiveX controls. The shell object model and thumbnail shell extensions are also examined, then used to build a simple icon viewer for Explorer.

Open With Windows Explorer very slow

I am trying to troubleshoot an issue where some users of our SharePoint environment have problems using the open with windows explorer option in a document library.

For some users this works fine...  the explorer opens quickly and they can manage the documents.

For other users it takes up to 5 minutes before the explorer view opens.  During this time the browser becomes completly unresponsive.

As part of the troubleshooting process I tried taking the UNC path that is shown in the explorer view and tried using the Start -> Run and then entering in the path.   This seems to cause the complete desktop to freeze until the explorer window displays.

This is occuring on Windows XP SP Pro SP2 with both IE6 and IE7.   The desktops are on the same domain as the SharePoint servers.

Any thoughts on next steps?

20,000 foot view: Sql Server clustering vs. Windows OS Clustering

I read that Sql Server Failover requires Windows Sevrer clustering to be in place first. (The former builds on the latter). Why is this the case? In other words, what does "sql server clustering" bring to the mix  that normal Windows clustering doesn't supply? TIA, Barkingdog

Sharepoint and IIS/Windows Event Logs in a single view

Hi - I'm coinsidering addng sharepoint log reading capabilities into an application I've built for reading windows and IIS logs (for more info http://logenvy.com). I know there are quite a few applications capable of reading sharepoint logs (a number are listed here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/781179/sharepoint-2007-log-viewer). Does anyone think the capability to analyse windows and IIS logs alongside sharepoint logs would be useful, or have any logging requirements not well met by the current set of tools? I'm especially keen to explore useful/interesting data visualizations on top of data logs.
