=User!UserID from windows authentication using table from another database

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 26, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

i'm using sql server 2005, sql server business intelligence development studio for my reports and deploy them in my wss3.0 site.

what i'm trying to do is i'm trying to restrict wich users can see specific data within a report.

now, the thing is. the report gets the data out of my DB1 database and my windows authenticated user are in the WSS_content database.

when i deploy my report in my wss3 site. it gets the user that is loged in. but of course it does not display any data because the tables are not in the same database.

does someone knows how to do this?

Forms based users being prompted for windows authentication login for My Sites photos in user lists

Here's an issue I didn't see coming for our forms based authentication users.

We have a web application extended to an external url to handle forms based authentication for users outside of our domain. Our setup looks like this...

Internal Users/Windows Authentication - moss.domain.com
External Users/Forms Based - mossext.domain.com
My Site for Internal Users - mysites.domain.com

When our forms based users are accessing user lists, or discussion pages that display user pictures, they are getting a windows authentication login for our internal users (mysites.domain.com) who have populated their my site with personal photo.

How do we fix this?

LDAP - directory entry issue with out user and password using impersonate and windows authentication

Hi All I am using the below code to fetch the user information from LDAP             DirectoryEntry entry = new DirectoryEntry("LDAP://DEV");             DirectorySearcher searcher =  new DirectorySearcher(entry);             SearchResult result;             searcher.Filter = "samaccountname=testuser";             result = searcher.FindOne(); here i am using windows authentication always and along with that when i enable the impersonate = true ,  the code fails at "result = searcher.FindOne();" with message "object reference not set to instance of an object "  also with the same code if i give the username and password along with the impersonate tag >> it works  or if i am using the user and password along with the DirectoryEntry  object then also it will work  but it fails with same user that i gave in impersonate tag / directory entry object with windows authentication enabled  and the  user logged to the application and no username and password tag in directory entry / impersonate tag  Interesting thing is that  in our development server ,  i am able to execute the same code with out user name p

SQL Server 2008 Windows Authentication Mode fails for Database Engine, error 18456

I installed SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition (10.0.1600.22.080709-1414) on a Windows Vista 32-bit development machine with Windows Authentication Mode only (no SQL Server Authentication).   Since this is a development machine, I saw no need for Mixed Mode when I did the install.  The SQL Server Management Studio allows me to login to Analysis Services, Integration Services, Reporting Services, BUT NOT the Database Engine!Windows Authentication for the Database Engine gives the following error: EventID: 18456Login failed for user MYDOMAIN\MYLOGIN'. Reason: Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error. Check for previous errors. [CLIENT: <local machine>]The 'fix' I have found online is to login as SA in SQL Server Authentication mode & add MYDOMAIN\MYLOGIN as a administrator for the Database Engine.  Unfortunately, I can't since I didn't install SQL Server Authentication mode (only Windows Authentication Mode).  It appears my only recourse is to uninstall, then reinstall in Mixed mode, then to login as SA in SQL Server Authentication mode & add MYDOMAIN\MYLOGIN as a administrator for the Database Engine. Before I do so, does anyone know of a better approach?Scott D Duncan

Forms based authentication allow only specific users from database table

I have the following implementation and I'm sure there is an easy way to do what I want to do but I can't figure it out.

1. I use forms based authentication to authenticate to my site

2.  I use active directory to authenticate the users

3.  I use the Allow Users="xxx" tag to authorize the users limited to the list that can access my site. (e.g.. even though Mary is an AD user she can't access my site unless I put her credentials in the allow users tag in the web.config file)

All is working well but I want to move the users access list (e.g.. <allow users="john" />" from the web.config to a database table so that I can create a user maintenance page for my admins to add and delete user access.   For the life of me I can't figure out how to do this and I can't seem to find an article on it either.  I'm sure I'm just not looking for the right thing, so help is greatly appreciated.

Here is my web.config file..

        <add name="DBConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=PRIMSRV;Initial Catalog=MAINDB;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=svc.Test;Password=password

Adding Current Windows User to Database Encounters Existing User with Same Login

In VS2008 in debug mode, I am using SMO to programatically change the users and permissions on a database. Windows authentication alone is being used. I need to limit access to a administrators group and the current user for whom the database has been dynamically created during the first run of the application within their current Windows environment on the machine. I have no problems creating and assigning the administrators group, but when I try to create the user using the environment's UserDomainName and UserName variables (which would be my creditals) I encounter an inner exception "The login already has an account under a different user name". Before doing running the app, I manually have checked the local server for user and logins with my credentials and programatically looked at each login but have not found any matching credentials.

Insights and suggestions appreciated.

Managing user accounts in SQL database for form based authentication

Custom Authentication - Accessing windows user via WindowsIdentity

I have a rest-based wcf webservice which currently uses a custom form of basic authentication (that is I perform basic authentication but validate the user/password against a custom db). I need to introduce windows authentication. I am using a request interceptor to perform the authentication.

  public class GatewayHostFactory : WebServiceHost2Factory
    protected override ServiceHost CreateServiceHost(Type serviceType, Uri[] baseAddresses)
      string serviceURI = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings[Constants.ServiceURI];
      Uri webServiceAddress = new Uri(serviceURI);
      GatewayHost webServiceHost = new GatewayHost(serviceType, webServiceAddress);

      AuthenticationInterceptor Auth = new AuthenticationInterceptor("GatewayService");
      return webServiceHost;

and then as a authentication message comes in firstly trying to authenticate a windows

copy user database from one windows domain to another windows domain

Dear All,

We have one production sql server running three user databases. for future safety and space constraints we made clustering enviroment but that is on different domain e.g. abc.com and the production sql server running with xyz.com domain.

Export Visio Database Table Names to Excel

If you use the Enterprise Architect edition of Microsoft Visio for data modeling regularly, then there is a good chance that at some point you've wanted to export just the table names into Excel. You might want to do this to map logical ERD entities to physical data model tables, track project status by entity, or track overlap between database versions.

MS SQL Server: Disconnect Users From Database - Kill User Session

If you ever wanted to restore your database from a SQL backup file (.bak), but there are still users connected to your database, the backup operation will fail causing the error: Exclusive access could not be obtained because the database is in use.

Reading and Writing Images From a Windows Mobile Database using UltraLite 10(C#)

Periodically I get a request for information on how to read and write binary data to a database running on Windows Mobile. If you search the Internet you can typically find examples that are available on Windows Desktops or allow you to read and write to a local file system. The problem is that it can take a bit of work to get this code to work on Windows Mobile accessing a database.

Ultimately you might be asking, why would I want to store and image in a database? Well in an environment where you synchronizing data between a local mobile database and a consolidated (central) database this can be extremely useful. Imagine if an insurance adjuster went to an accident scene, took a picture of a damaged car, loaded it into his Windows Mobile database and then replicated that image up to the Insurance headquarters for approval. All of this could be done in a very short period of time when using images in the database. Another good example might be a doctor who was waiting for a patient chart to become available. If you could store the image in a database this chart could be sent down to the doctor's device once it became available.

For this article I am not going to get into how to synchronize the images to and from a remote and central database as this is typically fairly straightforward when using a data synchronization technologies like MobiLink

Web Matrix + Windows Authentication

I'm curious if its possible to get windows auth working with asp.net webpages/webmatrix.

I've got it published to IIS with windows auth turned on and anonymous/forms/basic turned off.

I'm guessing the WebSecurity Helper probably won't work here but can you access User.Identity.Name etc?

Sorry for the newbie questions, I've only just started working with asp.net ^^,

Linq - add data to database then email user the details

Hi all

I'm not sure how to structure the code for this but what I want to do is be able to add data to a database, and once this has completed successfully, then email the user to say the details have been added successfully to the database.

I need to:

1. Check that the relevant data has been added into the database then

2. Email the details of the relevant data when completed.

Thanks in advance for your help,
