Load balancing on SQL 2005 Standard ?

SQL 2005 Standard.

Hi I would like to find the best approach to load balancing some SQL 2005 Servers taking in mind also the future scaling out of tens or hundreds servers.

I found this article: http://goo.gl/zP1R that writes about P2P replication, Table partitioning and Database mirroring but:

- P2P replication is limited to 12 servers
- table partitioning is not related to our case
- From what I know Database mirroring is only a high-availability solution, isn't it ?

What do you think ? Which is the best solution ?

Is SQL 2008 better in this area ? Could I upgrade to better meet these points ?

Load Balancing/Load Sharing features in SQL Server 2005/2008

Is there any load balancing features in SQL Server? My understanding is that SQL Server Clustering is not a load balancing feature.  Other features seem to be more like load sharing features: Degrees of Parallelism Table Partitioning Resource Governor seems to be more like a resource allocation feature.

Can Not load WPF project in Visual Studio 2005 on Win7 64 system, says "Project file not supported b

Dear all I am facing an issue in creating new wpf project or loading a WPF project in Visual studio 2005. I have installed Visual Studio 2005 Service pack - 1 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=bb4a75ab-e2d4-4c96-b39d-37baf6b5b1dc&displaylang=en) but still I can not see the option for wpf project  while creating a new project. Generally we can see WPF listing under item File -->New-->Project--> ".Net Framework 3.0" in VS 2005. I have few WPF project and when i try to load them it says "Project file not supported by this Installation". My System Config is given below: OS: Windows 7 (64 Bit) VS: Visual Studio 2005 with Service Pack 1 .Net Framework: 3.5 (By default inbuilt in Win7 OS)   I am suspecting something bugging related to .Net framework 3.0 in Win7. We have one option in control panel to alter .NetFramework 3.5 under "Turn Windows Features on or Off" but there I can not see something related to 3.0 :-(.   Kindly suggest how can I load my existing project and how can enable option to create new wpf Projects.   I saw few solutions suggested by people on following Thread bt most of them related to Windows XP or Vista: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/vswpfdesigner/thread/06cf7bca-982c-44cf-aec9-99cf399b3000 Do someone has solution for Windows 7 (64 bit OS)

ODBC connection to SQL Server 2005 Standard (on windows xp) with Windows authentication does NOT wor

I reviewed lots of postings, still could not find an answer. If I choose Windows authentication: - with TCP/IP and "Dynamically determine port" checked, I get the following error "The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection; - with Named Pipes, Server Name & Pipe Name as "VSAXAONG", I get two errors, one after the other on the same pop-up:       Connection failed  SQL State 01000  SQL Server Error 1385 [Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [Named Pipes] ConnectionOpen (Connect()).       Connection failed  SQL State 08001 SQL Server Error 17 [Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [Named Pipes] SQL Server does not exist or access denied. If I choose SQL Server authentication and fill in the password - the ODBC connection works fine. I have to say that I created two different logins on the server, one for Windows authentication, and one for SQL Server authentication - both for the same Windows user name. I would appreciate any help I can get on this.  Thank you all in advance.

Load balancing and Custom Filters in WCF 4.0 Routing Services

Hi, Couild someone please guide me to various ways of achieving load balancing using Router Service. i tried seeing few Blogs and tried to understand the round robin concept and the custom filters conceptr. but i m not able to see any specific site which would guide me on various examples of custom filters .And round robin seems a bit complex. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/routingrules/archive/2010/04/14/load-balancing-at-the-routing-service.aspx The above link gave me some insight  . is there any othe way of achieving load balancing other than Round robin. I did go through the samples of Routing services in WCf training Kit Thanks

2005 Enterprise upgrade to 2008 Standard?

We are currently running 2005 Enterprise Edition. Is it possible to move the database to 2008 Standard Edition?

Upgrade SQL 2005 standard Runtime edition to SQL 2005 standard edition full version

We have a MS SQL 2005 standard edition runtime license. The SQL Server Runtime license is a license that lets an independent software vendor (ISV) embed the complete SQL Server code into a solution for use only by the ISV application. The customers of the ISV cannot use this SQL Server product to run other applications or to develop new applications, databases, or tables. Now we want to add a new database to the SQL. We know that we have to buy a full version of SQL 2008 standard edition. But the question is: How can we add a new database to the existing SQL. Do we have to uninstall SQL runtime license and install the full version and migrate the existing databse or can we change the key and add new databases to the SQL server?

Your upgrade is blocked.. when adding components to SQL 2005 Standard Edition SP1

Name: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Tools Hello, I am having a problem when trying to add the Client Components to an existing installation of SQL 2005 Standard Edition SP1 running on Windows 2003 Standard. The server was originally built with SQL 2005 Standard Edition and had SP1 installed at a later date. I am using the CD that SQL was originally installed with which is not a service packed copy of SQL. The reason given when clicking the details button is as follows: Reason: Your upgrade is blocked. For more information about upgrade support, see the "Version and Edition Upgrades" and "Hardware and Software Requirements" topics in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help or SQL Server 2005 Books Online. Build version check: Your upgrade is blocked because the existing component is a later version than the version you are trying to upgrade to. To modify an existing SQL Server component, go to Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel, select the component you would like to modify, and then click Change/Remove. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards Steve

Replication option SQL 2005 Standard Edition

Hi, We are using SQL 2005 Standard Edition.  We would like to use Replication for one of our database. I would like to know answers for the questions. 1. Can we use Replication features with SQL 2005 Standard Edition 2. Can we use DR site with replication for the reporting purpose?  Is there any risks associated with option? 3. Do we still need to take transaction log backup on the production server if we use replication.   Thanks.

MS SQL Server 2005 Standard or Enterprise with default encryption

Hi, I wish to know whether or not by default MS SQL Server 2005 Std or Ent edition will encrypt the communication over the network by default? As, when we test out the database activity monitoring solution to capture the SQL traffics from the network, we are unable to see the DB user name and Source Program but SQL statements is able to seen. According to the vendor, it is due to the nature of MS SQL Server 2005 that encrypt the communication by default. But, why is it only encrypted the DB user name and Source Program but not the SQL statement? Can someone provide me the answer? Is that true what the vendor claims?   regards, Teh

Load balancing using web service

Hi Friends                 Presently we are developing a windows product using dot net, combined with sas (another language). If sas not get installed in local machines then we are in need of using server machine which has sas with it, we are using socket programming to communicate with server machine, Problem is when more number of requests comes to the server for processing sas it is becoming slow, so we need  Load balancing If we go with web service which is having same domain name but different ip address mapped using Domain Name System (DNS) We will get work done faster     What i want is will this work fine, what else i have to done for achieving this, how can i test itWaitingBalaji Manoharan

Is network load balancing improved for TCP remoting in .Net 2.0 ?

The MSDN TV broadcast for improvements in .Net remoting 2.0 says that the Socket Cache for TCP has been improved to allow for better load balancing.

I cant find any other information about this.

Does this mean that Network Load Balancing is now viable for .Net Remoting 2.0 using the TCP channel ? ( some previous posts say that NLB does not work ideally with older .Net remoting TCP connections )

Slow sql-server after upgrade from SQL-Server 2005 x64 standard to SQL-Server 2008 R2 x64 enterprise

We moved our databases to new hardware today (using copy database wizard)

The new hardware should be better than the old one.

We went from 28 GB ram to 128 GB.

We went from 16 cores to 32 cores (with even more cache etc.). We also moved from external SAN with 40 disks to intern disks (8 Samsung SS805 100gb ssd slc)

According to our own metrics we could get twice the IO using IO m

SSRS 2005 Standard - Subscription to email distribution list?

I am delivering SSRS 2005 reports via email subscription. I would like to utilize distribution lists. However, we do not have an exchange server. Is there a way to create distribution lists on the server that can then be accessed through SSRS Standard?

What are Best practice for setting up databases in a distributed load balancing environment

What is the best practice out of the following in a distributed load balancing environment:

keep application database and persistent/tracking database seperate

Keep application , persistence , tracking data all in one database.
