Error in P2P t-log replication in mix env of 2k5 and 2k8 SQLServer

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 20, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

We have a case where we upgrade SQL server cluster from 2005 to 2008 which also particapates in replication as well.

Svr-1 & Svr-2 are in T-log rep (Pier-1)
Svr-3 & Svr-4 are in T-log rep (Pier-2)
Pier-1 and Pier-2 are clustered pair.
Svr-1 Post upgrade to 2008 NO issues.
Srv-2 Post upgrade to 2008, I am getting the error.

Please suggest any solutions.

Error in Replication: connection was chosen as the victim in a deadlock

I'm using a merge replication with SQL 2008 at server and SQL Express 2008 on subscribers. We are using around 100 subscribers. I'm getting the following error once two subscribers replicate at the same time. The final number of transaction uploaded to the server is always arong 100 and a similar number in the downloads, so the amount of transaction is not an issue. I'he been playing with the merge profile with no luck. The merge process could not replicate one or more INSERT statements to the 'Publisher'. A stored procedure failed to execute. Troubleshoot by using SQL Profiler. (Source: MSSQL_REPL, Error number: MSSQL_REPL-2147200990) Get help: http://help/MSSQL_REPL-2147200990 A query executing on Publisher 'xxxxx' failed because the connection was chosen as the victim in a deadlock. Please rerun the merge process if you still see this error after internal retries by the merge process. (Source: MSSQLServer, Error number: 1205) Get help: http://help/1205 Any idea? This is getting to a critical point where transactions are not being uploaded to the server.  Additonally, there are a lot of blocks between the subscribers, and they are mainly associated with table MSmerge_partition_groups

XML Column containing single quote causes replication error

We have SQL Server 2005 transactional replication set up, and some of our tables have XML datatype columns.  We have run into an issue with the following error in the publication: Incorrect syntax near 's'. (Source: MSSQLServer, Error number: 102) Get help: http://help/102 Looking at the distribution database, I was able to extract the offending command, and it turns out that the XML column has a single quote (') embedded in it, and the command that was generated for inserting the row into the subscriber table has bad syntax because of the single quote (i.e., it is not escaped).  One interesting note is that the single quote happens to also show up in a non-XML column, and the command segment for that column was generated correctly (it was escaped). Is there a workaround / solution for this?

getting sqlserver error 40 with "roles.AddUserToRole"

Hi,I am using Membership in my asp.net website built using VS-2005.I am able to create a new user using them Membership.CreateUser method or from asp.net Website Configuration but when I run "roles.AddUserToRole" from code-behind or create a new role using ASP.NET WebsiteConfiguration I am getting the following error (in asp.net website configuration). There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store. The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)I have followed these steps:-1>Enabled forms authentication in web.config by using <authentication> and <authorization> tags and verified the same set main.html as start page and set frmlogin.aspx as loginurl and upon running the website the user was getting redirected to frmlogin.aspx2>removed localsqlserver from connectionstrings and again

JDBC connection to SQLserver failing with ERROR [JDBCExceptionReporter] The connection is closed.

SQL server version: MS 2005 9.00.3050.00 Std edition Development version is on a stand alone server. Production is on an active/active cluster. Full error message below. There is an explanation and solution as noted below. However we do not see this issue in all our environments. Can anyone tell me why we see this issue in our production environment but not on our development environment, especially as the issue seems to arise following low usage times. Explanation / Solution If you are using the v1.2 driver, and you can positively rule out transient network connectivity issues and multithreaded usage, the next most common cause I am aware of is where a connection pool is being used and the pooling manager (e.g. DBCP or C3PO) does not test pooled connections for validity before handing them out to the app. What happens in this case is connections that sit idle in the pool for a very long time get closed by the TCP/IP stack, routing hardware, etc. Then they're already dead when the pooling manager hands them out. The solution is to configure the pooling manager to validate connections before handing them out, typically using a validation query like "SELECT 1". Replication Error - Can't Insert Null into MSSubscription_agents.allow_subscription_copy

In attempting to set up a transactional replication subscription via the UI, I keep getting the error that I cannot insert a Null into the MSSubscription_agents table.  Originally, this was on the allow_subscription_copy column.  One resource suggested altering the column to allow Nulls but that only moved the issue to the attach_state and, later, attach_version columns.  My immediate issue was resolved with these changes BUT I'm really concerned that I need to alter a system table in order to allow a fairly simple replication subscription to be configured.  Has anyone run into this issue and is there a better work around available? I'm running SQL 2008 Enterprise Edition SP1 in a 64-bit environment on both the Publisher/Distributor and Subscriber servers.

Error: The replication agent has not logged a progress message in 10 minutes

Hello,      We are consistently getting the error message below on our subscribers that have blob images. Is there a way to increase a setting to avoid SQL to throw this error, or another suggestion? Thanks in advance.   John   Error messages: The replication agent has not logged a progress message in 10 minutes. This might indicate an unresponsive agent or high system activity. Error message in opening a view after Replication server restored

Hi, Yesterday Replication was broken as Publisher was down. After it was restored, I tried to open a view in Subscriber and I get the following error message [Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [SQL Server] Login failed for user 'Repl admin'   Any suggestions to get around this problem.   Thanks in advance -Jaya

Replication error

what does this error mean? Replication monitor could not start the snapshot agent to generate a new snapshot. you must start the snapshot agent manually before the subscription can be reinitialized. error 22022?

SQLServer Express 2008 R2 - Cannot connect Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 11.

I have just installed  running MSSQL Server 2008 R2 (Express), along with Visual Web Developer 2010 Express In SQL Server Configuration Manager I can see the SQL Server Service running (SQLEXPRESS) and the SQL Server Browser service running. On running SQL Server Management Studio when trying to log on I get the message Login failed for user Phil-PC`Phil (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18456) In the SQL Server Error log I see this error 2010-09-16 10:24:16.07 Logon       Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 11. 2010-09-16 10:24:16.07 Logon       Login failed for user 'Phil-PC\Phil'. Reason: Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error. Check for previous errors. [CLIENT: <local machine>] I have been unable to find anything useful on Google on how to resolve this problem. I have tried running the command line utility sqlcmd -L and this lists the following Servers:     Phil-PC     Phil-PC\SQLEXPRESS   In my list of Installed programs in Control Panel I see both MS SQL Server 2008 & MS SQL Server 2008 R2, is that correct?
