set operations

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 20, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I work with SQL Server 2008. Please, tell me, what means "set operations". Which operators of Transact SQL can I deliver to them?

For example: I have 2 tables: Employees(empid,country). Customers(empid,country).  The task is: Return the number of distinct locations that are either employee or customer locations in each country
The result as:

country         numlocations

How to Perform SQL Server Row-by-Row Operations Without Cursors

SQL cursors have been a curse to database programming for many years because of their poor performance. On the other hand, they are extremely useful because of their flexibility in allowing very detailed data manipulations at the row level. Using cursors against SQL Server tables can often be avoided by employing other methods, such as using derived tables, set-based queries, and temp tables

.NET Matters: Parallelizing Operations With Dependencies

In this month's installment, Stephen Toub examines some techniques for enforcing dependencies in the running order of asynchronous operations and builds a DependencyManagement class to help.

Visual Studio 2005: Bridge the Gap Between Development and Operations with Whitehorse

Microsoft is introducing a new suite of tools (code-named "Whitehorse") that will make it easier for you to design and implement systems that conform to a service-oriented architecture. Two of these tools -- the SOA Design Suite and the Class Designer -- support the graphical design of systems and components with support for code generation and support for bi-directional synchronization which lets you ensure that your diagram always represents your system design. This article introduces these tools and shows you how they'll improve your design and development efforts.

Bulk Copy Operations in ADO.NET 2.0

Bulk copying of data from one data source to another data source is a new feature added to ADO.NET 2.0. Bulk copy classes provides the fastest way to transfer set of data from once source to the other.

Each ADO.NET data provider provides bulk copy classes. For example, in SQL .NET data provider, the bulk copy operation is handled by SqlBulkCopy class, which is described in Figure 1. As you can see from Figure 1, data from a data source can be copied to one of the four types - DataReader, DataSet, DataTable, or XML.

An operations error occurred in ActiveDirectoryMembershipProvider

Hi guys, i have an application that uses Active Directory Authentication and deployed the application several days ago without any error. Today, I got this error.please refer to the image. I find it  weird because I didn't change any code to my webconfig file since i deployed the application to the server. I've notice that it's working if it's http://localhost:50618/website/login.aspx (by opening the source file in server and debug it) however when i try to access the application through I'm getting this error. I'm using 2.0 framework

And here's my web.config

        <add name="ADConnectionString" connectionString="LDAP://,DC=com"/>

 <identity impersonate="true"/>
        <membership defaultProvider="MyADMembershipProvider">
                <add name="MyADMembershipProvider"

SQL Audit: What operations are captured within DATABASE_OBJECT_ACCESS_GROUP?

What operations are captured in DATABASE_OBJECT_ACCESS_GROUP? I expected create/drop certificate/symmetric key is captured. But nothing is captured after I followed these steps: CREATE DATABASE DB1, Configure and enable Server and Database Audit Specs which includes (only) DATABASE_OBJECT_ACCESS_GROUP (in both Specs). Then execute the following T-SQL Script.   USE DB1 GO CREATE MASTER KEY ENCRYPTION BY PASSWORD = 'P@ssw0rd!' GO CREATE CERTIFICATE MyDBCert WITH SUBJECT = 'My Database Certificate' GO CREATE SYMMETRIC KEY MySymKey WITH ALGORITHM = TRIPLE_DES ENCRYPTION BY CERTIFICATE MyDBCert GO CREATE TABLE T1 (ID nvarchar(3), C1 nvarchar(50)) GO -------------------------------------------------------------- OPEN SYMMETRIC KEY MySymKey DECRYPTION BY CERTIFICATE MyDBCert DECLARE @I INT SET @I = 100 WHILE @I <> 0 BEGIN INSERT INTO T1(ID) VALUES(@I) SET @I = @I -1 END GO -------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE T1 SET C1 = EncryptByKey(Key_GUID('MySymKey'),ID) OPEN SYMMETRIC KEY MySymKey DECRYPTION BY CERTIFICATE MyDBCert SELECT ID, C1, CONVERT(nvarchar, DECRYPTBYKEY(C1)) FROM T1 GO -------------------------------------------------------------- DROP TABLE T1 GO DROP SYMMETRIC KEY MySymKey GO DROP CERTIFICATE MyDBCert GO DROP MASTER KEY GO

Pathlistbox animating add/remove operations

I would like to slide/animate the pathlistbox items when a new item is added or an existing item is removed. Imagine removing item at index 3...then I would like to animate when item at index 4 moves to index 3. Im picturing like a slide back (for horizontal layout) or a slide up (for vertical layout). As amazing as the pathlistbox seems, its very new and I cant find much on this. Any help guys? thanks justin

Sesame: Spatial OData on Maps, Service Operations, HTTP Basic Authentication

Sesame Data Browser has just been updated to offer the following features for OData feeds: MapsImproved Service operations (FunctionImport) supportHTTP Basic Authentication supportMicrosoft Dallas support Maps Sesame now automatically displays items on a map if spatial information is available in data.This works when latitude and longitude pairs are provided.Here is for example a map of drinking fountains in Vancouver:This comes from DrinkingFountains in http://vancouverdataservice.cloudapp.net/v1/vancouver, which provides latitude/longitude for each fountain. Here is another example, without latitude/longitude this time: This is a map of the customers from the Northwind database, which are located based on their country, postal code, city, and street address. Service operations (FunctionImport) Support for service operations (aka FunctionImports) has been improved. Until now, only functions without parameters were supported. It's now possible to use service operations that take input parameters. Let's take as an example the GetProductsByRating function from http://services.odata.org/OData/OData.svc.This function is attached to Products, as you can see below: A "rating" parameter is expected in order to open the function: After clicking Open, you'll get data as usual:HTTP Basic Authentication New authentication options have been added: HTTP Basic and Dallas (more

How to use threading with DAL operations?

Hello Everyone,I want to use my functions in DAL asynchronously by executing them in a separate thread. The issue in all this is suppose I have a function DAL.GetProducts() which returns a DataTable. If I execute this function in a separate thread, when it is completed how do I get the returned DataTable from this thread and bind it to my UI? Kindly give full code and if possible sample working project so I can understand better. Best Regards, Syed Afraz Ali

LINQ - Can't perform Create, Update or Delete operations on because it has no primary key.

Hi, not sure if I'm posting this thread in the right section. anyway, I''m trying to do the update/insert/delete using LINQ but the underlying table does not a primary key. The table consists of composite ket (e.g. fieldA & FieldB make a primary key). At the moment, I have LINQ complaning about not having a single primary key (not sure what LINQ does it - not making any sense at all). did anyone ever come across this issue and rectified it?  thanks

Workflow Services in WF4 - how to find out which operations can be invoked?

Hi All I'm just working through a migration from WF3.5 to WF4.0. In WF3.5, with the Receive activity, I was able to access the workflow runtime behavior from the workflow service host, and get access to the workflow runtime. From the workflow runtime, I could get the workflow instance, and from the workflow instance I could enumerate the queues. Because the conventional queue name was InterfaceName|OperationName, I could find out which operations could be delivered to a particular workflow. I wrote a companion service that returned this information to the client. This meant that the client application didn't have to have knowledge of which operations could be delivered to a particular workflow based on its current state, which was nice! In WF4.0, is there equivalent functionality available? I can post some indicative code samples from WF3.5 if required... Regards Nigel
