Deploy a project to a remote computer

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 20, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I have an Analysis Services project in Visual Studio and I want to deploy it to a remote server, but I can't connect to the server. What might I be doing wrong? Is it related to the impersonation definition of the database?

VS2010 Professional .NET 4.0 Remote Debugging ASP Website Project

Trying to remote debug ASP website from VS2010 Pro to Windows Server 2003 machine.  Specifically, trying to debug a Web Service, but breakpoint says, "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document."  This happens for all compiled code though.  I have read this is due to missing PDB files and the work around is to manually copy them, as noted here.  Problem is, I cannot find any PDB files for my project, except referenced libraries, which I can remote debug.

  • web.config has <compilation debug="true">
  • Debugger is attached to wewp.exe process on remote server
  • Installed VS2010 remote debugger from DVD (as I can remote debug referenced libraries)

This is beyond frustrating.  I migrated my code from VS2008 .Net3.5 to VS2010 .Net4.0 to take advantage of the inherent multithreading framework.  Debugging works when using local host and was stable until deployment to test server.

Thanks in advance,

calling a web service on a remote server from a ASPX page (web site project VS2005)

HI,I am maintaining a web site project in VS2005 and have to call a new web service on a remote server. I've done add web reference, and created the .wsdl and .discomap files in the app_webReference folder.  When I try to create a object representing the web service in the code ( wsnamespace.serviceName ws = new wsnamespce.serviceName(); ) the code wouldn't compile. The web site project is already calling other web services. When I right click on the type representing the web service and "go to definition" it takes me to a proxy class (derived from of course SoapHttpClientProtocol) in the metadata. I think this is what's missing for  the new web service i'm trying to call. Have I missed any steps? Thanks in advance.-me

Can I deploy a custom site page from the VS2010 SharePoint project?

Hi We're setting up some demos of our sharepoint plugins and want to easily deploy these into sharepoint so that all members of the company can easily get the demos running on their own machines. This is fine for layouts, web parts and so on - but the demo also has a customised sharepoint home page (which I edited in SP Designer) - how do I make this edited home page part of the VS2010 project so that it can be deployed easily to any site collection?   Thanks

Executing a program on a remote computer

I'm trying to execute a program on a remote computer, using code ofcourse, and i'm trying the following:

The function rerturns code 8 which says "unknows failure" and the program i was trying to execute (or any other program for that matter) doe's not run.
Nothing happens except that on the remote computer the mouse curser changes for a split of a second. I know the connection is OK because of that - plus if i change one of the parameters (computer name, user name, password) to a wrong one, the program exits.

Does anyone know what might be the problem?

Use VS Project Module to Deploy Page to Central Admin

Does anyone know if it's possible to use a Visual Studio project Module to provision a page to the Central Admin site when a SITE feature is activated?

If I use

<Module Name="MirrorAdmin" Url="_admin/Datagility">
    <File Path="MirrorAdmin.aspx" Url="MirrorAdmin.aspx" />

(or similar, I haven't copied and pasted) the file gets deployed to a folder called _admin under the site where my solution gets deployed. Do I need to create a separate solution and deploy it to the admin site or is there something I can use in the Url= element to deploy the page to the correct place?

Can a user with SQL express deploy a SSIS to a remote SQL server (how)

sql express does not have integration services.

dtutil does not work without integration services.  This is therefore not an option.

The deployment manifest needs dtutil to execute.  This is also not an option.

The documentation on microsoft states that a person can connect to remote integration services by editing the ini file and then connecting locally. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms137789.aspx.  Without integration service, one can not connect locally to integration services so using the transfer package of sql server is also not an option.

Also connecting remotely to an integration without editing the ini seems to require local admin rights on the target server.  This is a bit too much to ask.  (this is what I experimented let me know if you know the exact requirements)

Is there a possibility for a person with sql express, without local admin rights to the target server, to push his ssis to his sql server test instance?

Unable to deploy solution, getting "The OutputPath property is not set for project " error

Hi Guys,

I am having this configuation issue which I can't seem to resolve. When I am deploying my SP2010 solution to my farm Ii ge thi error mesage when I deploy a solution which contains output dll references.

Error 1 The OutputPath property is not set for project 'XXX.SharePoint2010.KnowledgeBase.Helper.csproj'.  Please check to make sure that you have specified a valid combination of Configuration and Platform for this project.  Configuration='Release'  Platform='AnyCPU'.  This error may also appear if some other project is trying to follow a project-to-project reference to this project, this project has been unloaded or is not included in the solution, and the referencing project does not build using the same or an equivalent Configuration or Platform. KnowledgeBaseSite

Database security, can't deploy from some databases, can others...all in the same SSRS Project

1.) I just installed SQL Server 2008 including SSRS.  I created a simple database.  I then created an SSRS project and wrote a report using my simple database.  It built and deployed fine.

2.) I downloaded the AdventureWorksDW2008 database.  In the same Project as above, I created another report using AdventureWorksDW2008 as a Datasource.  It previewed fine and I saw my data.  The project with the two reports built fine, but the AdventureWorksDW report did not deploy (but the first report would???)  The deployment would eventually timeout.  The project would deploy except for the AdventureWorks report.

3.) I scripted the AdventureWorksDW2008 database, changed only the name in the script to AdventureWorksDW20082 (through out the script) and ran it.  I created the new database (AdventureWorksDW20082) and a simple table with data.

I added a third report to the project the queried my new database (AdventureWorksDW20082).  This report  deployed fine.

It seems if I create the database there is no problem deploying, but the AdventureWork database I downloaded, I can't deploy!!!  I can query and preview the data in a report in BIDS, but deployment fails due to a timeout.

Does anyone know where I should start looking?

It must be some permission

Error 26 while trying to Connect to a SQLExpress 2005 database on a remote computer

I have installed SQL Express 2005 on two computers networked and running windows XP.  I've copied the database from the first computer to the second and run queries on both to show that both computers have an active database that is up and running.  Now I am trying to use the Sql Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE) on the first machine to establish contact with the second machine.  In order to have the two machines communicate I've configured the SQL Server on the second machine as follows:

Under the protocols for the SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration I've enabled the TCP/IP pipes and set the TCP/Dynamic ports to 1032 (when I ran netstat -a it indicated that this was an active connection which I think this means it is available - though it says that the port has a Foreign Address and it State is listening).  As an aside the port 1433 was not among the active connections.

Both the SQLServer and the SQLServer browser are running (which presumably means they are both enabled).

I've run the surface Area Configuration For Services and Connections Tool to Set the SQLExpress Remote connections for Local and remote connections using TCP/IP and named pipes.

The Client Protocols for the SQL Native Client Configuration is stillset so that the default port is 1433.

Project Example: ASP.NET MVC + SubSonic Architecture

use of SubSonic to provide the DAL in association with some ASP.NET MVC sites and was waylaid in my original intent to throw up a post summarizing the architecture we're using for the effort. Well I've finally gotten around to it. Recall that in his fake it till you need it post, Dave provided a window on our architecture that I'll build upon here
