SSIS Package Validation Taking Long Time

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 20, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

The package that I am workin on used to open in BIDS real quickly and also when running it through BIDS. Now, it is taking a long time to open in BIDS and also when I am executing it using DTEXEC it is taking more than 60 minutes just for validation.

I dont consider it as heavy as it has fewer tasks compared to other packages and they open really quickly. And also I can open the package to work offline, but have issue with it while executing the package using DTEXEC.

I have tried DelayValidation=TRUE, but it is not much of a help.

WCF calling webservice - assigning return value taking a long time

0 down vote favorite

I have a wcf service (WCF_A ) which calls another wcf service (WCF_B) (currently I am hosting the WCF_B on my local machine with my credentials – as windows service), WCF_B internally makes a call to a webservice (WS01) that is hosted on the IIS. I have created a test client and call the WCF_A -> WCF_B -> WS01. Just before making the call to (WS01) I start a timer and I stop the timer when the webservice call comes back and the result is assigned to a variable, the flow is as below WCF_B

1)  Debug.WriteLine(“Call to webservice”)
2)  Starttimer
3)  Var result = WS01.Function(xxxx)
4)  Stop

SSRS taking a long time to run an MDX query

I have an MDX query which runs fine in the MDX Sample Application. It runs against an SSAS 2000 cube. In my query there is a recursion kind of a logic. It takes about 1-2 sec to run in the MDX Sample Application. My sample application is in the same server as my AS 2000 cube is. However when I run the same MDX from another server through BIDS (2008) it takes an unusually long amount of time to run. Most of the time it times out. :(

As a workaround I created 4 calculated members in my Cube itself (Initially these were used as members in my MDX). I thought that maybe the recursion logic is the culprit so I modified my MDX, removed the recursion part. But still from my SSRS it is taking a long time.

Any pointers to where I am missing the trick ?

Thanks in advance,

ASP.NET upgrade seems to be taking a very long time to start

At work I'm tryhing to upgrade an ASP.NET 2.0 app (which we wrote using VB.NET 2005) to ASP.NET 4.0.  I had a few problems during the upgrade, but eventually worked them all out.  At the end of the day I decided to give it a quick compile and see if I'd get the start page, so I hit F5 in VS 2010.  I left it that way, and man was it acting weird.  VS 2010 wasn't responding to anything.  If I hovered the mouse over VS 2010's minimize or close buttons, in the upper right corner, then those buttons were flashing very rapidly.  I'm not sure what was going on.  After waiting 15 minutes to see if it would come up, I decided to try clicking on the close button.  Nothing happened.  Eventually, I had to leave (I take public transit, and I have to leave when the bus comes), but I thought I'd leave it going as is, in hopes that it might fix itself.

But what I want to know is this, is this pretty standard behavior?  Does it normally take this long to do this?  This website is of modest size (<100 pages).

SQL Query is taking long time to run

Hi All,
SQL Query is taking long time to run in my report. It is using Clustered index seek when I am querying for 2 days on invoice_itemized table. It is returning 99 thousand records. It is returning  2524094 records and it is using clustered index scan when I am querying for one month. For one month It is taking 7 minutes.
Basically it is not using the index defined for the store_Id, status and datetime columns in the invoice_totals table. Can I force the sql query to use the specified index?

Please suggest me to improve the performance....

SQL Query

,Invoice_Totals.DateTime InvoiceDate
,Invoice_Totals.Discount InvDiscPercent
,Invoice_Itemized.LineDisc LineDiscPercent
WHEN Invoice_Totals.Total_Price <> 0 AND Inventory.ItemType=7 AND Invoice_Totals.Discount = 0 THEN ((Invoice_Itemized.PricePer * Invoice_Itemized.Quantity) * -1) / ((Invoice_Totals.Total_Price) + ((Invoice_Itemized.PricePer * Invoice_Itemized.Quantity) * -1))
WHEN Invoice_Totals.Total_Price <> 0 AND Inventory.ItemType=7 THEN ((Invoice_Itemized.PricePer * I

SSIS - OLE DB from VIEW takes long time

I have a question regarding SSIS 2008 and how it handles views. I hope the answer for this question will be a quick "Get a hotfix" heh.

I am experiencing a very odd behavior with setting up a View as a data-source in OLE DB. I have set up a a very simple package (for experimenting) with a Data Flow Task that has only two components, Data-Source and Data-Destination. I have set the data-source to a view and the destination to a table in the same database.

Note: I am developing the package on the server itself.

  • While trying to preview data-source I get an error, "Query Timeout expired (Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 10.0)
  • When executing the package Validation, Pre-Execute phases are complete but no rows are passing through the buffer. I have waited over 12 hours before stop the job. Checking the monitoring verified that IO was on 1. And that no object was locked , which may have caused the package to run so long or not to retrieve data.
  • When connecting to SSMS and doing export of data from the view - it also retrieves no data and the process seems to be stuck.

SSIS 2008 Package with OLE DB provider MSDAORA.1 does not pass validation

Hello there---

I have run into a problem that apparently others have hit, too, but I don't seem to see any definitive solutions to the problem... I have created a package in BIDS (VS2008) for SQL 2008, living on a Windows Server 2008 R2 box (64-bit OS). I have set up my connections to an Oracle DB and my local SQL Server via Connection Managers, and testing the connections rolls successfully. My Data Flow tab is all set with the source db (Oracle) and my destination db (SQL 2008) as well as a Data Conversion step in between. But when I run the package from within the BIDS (F5), the package does not pass validation. I am getting the following messages...

[Connection manager "OTAP.rmarkarian"] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDB_NOPROVIDER_64BIT_ERROR.  The requested OLE DB provider MSDAORA.1 is not registered -- perhaps no 64-bit provider is available.  Error code: 0x00000000.
An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Service Components"  Hresult: 0x80040154  Description: "Class not registered".

I have looked at the following thread in this forum (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlintegrationservices/thread/920a0817-d9

using SharePoint List for SSIS package

I need to use a sharepoint list as data source for SSIS package, it works fine until the sharepoint site implement Kerberos only (IIS 7) authentication, anyone knows how to get around this? thanks.

SSIS Package Transaction locks entire table

Hello, I have SSIS package that using transactions and working as expected. But this locks all the tables involved in the data flow that are get inserted/loaded. If I query those tables during package execution the query waits till SSIS releases the lock. But I can still query those tables using NOLOCK hint. Is this possible SSIS will lock only the rows that it insert/update/delete etc? So that other user can still use that table or another instance of same SSIS Package can load data into those tables? My Package: In the package level I have TransactionOption = Required. The Sequence (Data Flow is inside this sequence) TransactionOption = Supported. I had some issue in my package that I posted here: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlintegrationservices/thread/dfb5a8b9-d43c-452b-bb21-d6aea192fc97 and also resolved. Now I descovered this issue and trying to resolve. Thanks, Prabhat

Execute SSIS Package PART based on Some Condition

Hello, Is it possible to execute part of the Package based some condition? (Like If var1 = true, then execute this block). If Yes, what control flow I should use. Please advse. I will have a Package Variable and if that variable is True then some part should execute. REst all should execute every time the package is called. Like if I will have "2 Sequence Container" in my control flow, the first one should execute every time, but 2nd one only if the variable value = True. Thanks, Prabhat

SSIS package Scheduled Job Not Running

I'm not sure which way to research this issue.. I have an SSIS package that we can run just fine manually. But, when we put it into a scheduled job, it won't run. The package is on the same system as the SQL Server (2005), but it does call for updates from tables on another SQL Server (2000) on another domain (trusted). So, I'm thinking this might be a permissions / security issue, but not sure where to start... The package ProtectionLevel is "don't save sensitive", but that didn't help. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. jill

Can not get excel connection when calling an SSIS package from ASP

I have an SSIS package importing data from excel. I have coded it and deployed it on the sql 2008 server. I then execute it via a stored procedure with the following: select @cmd = 'C:\"Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\100\DTS\Binn\DTExec.exe" /sq "HRIS"' select   @cmd = @cmd + ' /SET \Package.Variables[User::path].Properties[Value];"' + @path + '"' exec   @rtn = master..xp_cmdshell @cmd   This works fine when  i execute it on my local machine. But when I try to call this Stored proc from my asp app (classic asp, not .net) I get the error: Code: 0xC0202009 Source: HRIS Connection manager "SourceConnectionExcel" Description: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. help regarding SSIS package!

Hi Everyone,, I am pretty much new to SSIS. Any help regarding this project would be appreciate it. I need to transfer data from the files into a Database. I need to use FTP to copy those files locally on a machine and then combine/merge those files  and then read the data from those files and copy the values into the database. I have atleast 5-6 files which I need to combine or read them individually to form a single row in the database. (I am not sure if merging into single file or reading as each indivial file is faster!) Those files are in report formats and can be opened like notepad. There is Ton of data in each file and some filtering is required before I insert a single record into the DB. I just started learing the SSIS package, i am not really sure how I can do it.Any help or sample code or screen shots would be really appreciated!! Thanks Sunny.
