Visual Studio does not detect .NET Framework 4

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 20, 2010    Points: 0   Category :.NET Framework

Hello, I have installed Visual Studio 2010 Professional, which also installed .NET Framework 4.

When I try to create a new project, it only gives me the option to use Frameworks 2, 3 and 3.5 . v4.0 does not appear on the drop down list.

Also, when I try opening a .NET Framework 4 project I get the "this project is targeting ".NET Framework=v4.0"" error.

I've used the tool to see if .NET Framework 4 is correctly installed, and it is!

I don't understand, I've uninstalled and installed Framework 4 and VS2010 a thousand times, clean installs and all and VS still does not detect that Framework 4 is installed. I've also tried installing the standalone version of Framework 4, but no dice. Please help, I'm desperate!

My system is Windows Vista x64 Home Premium, 8g ram, intel i7...

Thanks!

Windows CE: Develop Handheld Apps for the .NET Compact Framework with Visual Studio .NET

Smart Device Extensions (SDE) for Visual Studio .NET allow programmers to develop applications for the .NET Compact Framework, a new platform that maintains many of the features of the .NET Framework in a version optimized for handheld devices. This article shows how SDE provides access through Visual Studio .NET to a variety of .NET classes for devices running Windows CE, including classes for creating user interfaces. Data access classes and Web Services for the .NET Compact Framework are also explained. Following that overview, a sample Web Service called XMLList is built. Then the UI-the XMLList client-side application-is created.

The Weekly Source Code 56 - Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4 Training Kit - Code Contracts, P

Do you like a big pile of source code? Well, there is an imperial buttload of source in the Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4 Training Kit . It's actually a 178 meg download, which is insane. Perhaps start your download now and get it in the morning when you get up. It's extremely well put together and I say Kudos to the folks that did it. They are better people than I. I like to explore it while watching TV myself and found myself looking through tonight. I checked my blog and while I thought I'd shared this with you before, Dear Reader, I hadn't. My bad, because it's pure gold . With C# and VB, natch. Here's an outline of what's inside. I've heard of folks setting up lunch-time study groups and going through...(read more)

Regarding .Net framework version and Visual Studio version

Hi all,         I have done my project in Visual Studio 2008 and .Net Framework 3.5. Now is it possible to compile and run the same project in Visual Studio 2005 and .Net Framework 2.0 without any problems. Should anything be taken care of??? Thanks for any help

Referencing framework 4 assemblies from Visual Studio 2008

Hi all,

I read a lot about Visual Studio 2008 and framework 4, and I have understood that it is not possible compiling framework 4 with Visual Studio 2008. By the way, I cannot find a definitive answer to a sibling question: it is possible, within a Visual Studio 2008 project (say 3.5), to reference a framework 4 assembly?

Trying to do so, I get the following error

[...] This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded.

thanks

Can not establish a connection to SQL Server 2008 R2 via Visual Studio 2010 Framework 4.0

Hello All, I would appreciate any help with this.

I believe my problem exists within the web.config which already had code in it to connect to SQL Server Express 2008.

I uninstalled the SQL Server Express that came with Visual Studio 2010.

I installed SQL Server 2010 R2 Developer, and I'm able to connect via Management Studio and through Visual Studio's Server Explorer's Data Connections I am connected.

I did run aspnet_regsql.exe within the 4.0 folder in order to create the database with Microsoft Service Providers.

Here is the ServerName: USER-5529234649

Here is the name of the DataBase:  StepByStepChapter9

Here is the name of the Connection within Visual Studio's Server Explorer's Data Connections:  user-5529234649.StepByStepChapter9.dbo

Here is the code I changed in the web.config:

<configuration>
  <connectionStrings>
      <!--<add name="ApplicationServices"
            connectionString="data source=.\SQLEXPRESS;Integrated   Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|\aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true"
            providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />-->
      <add name="ApplicationServices" connectionString="data source=user-5529234649\Step

Missing Entity Framework Template in Visual Studio ASP.NET 4.0

I just installed Visual Studio 2010 on my Windows 7 laptop in order to start learning the Entity Framework.  For some reason that I haven't been able to figure out, when I try to add a new item, there is no template for the ADO.NET Entity Framework.   Can anyone offer me any help as to why the template doesn't exist and what I need to do in order to get the template?

Thanks

ps. I came across a post that stated that in order restore the template that I needed to do the following:

 devenv /installvstemplates

This didn't help.

I am trying to add a DLL file that was compiled in Visual Studio 2010 with Framework 4 to my project that is in Visual Studio 2008(Framework 3.5), but I am getting a warning after I have added the reference that says "The referenced component 'dll name' could not be found." What is causing VS2008 give this warning? I can not compile the code as this DLL is a required component. Thank you.

Ajax Control Toolkit for Framework 2.0 in Visual Studio 2010

I am new to ASP.NET and am using VS 2010 on a standalone machine to develop a web application in framework 2.0. The 3.5 Ajax Control Toolkit I have in my Toolbox tab is greyed out for my 2.0 app, but not for a test 3.5 app, so I am assuming I need to download Tookit just for 2.0 and for VS 2010. I am not sure where to find the right Toolkit. Everything I have found is for 3.5 or 4.0 and/or not for VS 2010. Thanks!

Visual Studio 2010 project not recognizing .Net Framework 2.0 is installed

I have been running Visual Studio 2005 with .Net Framework 2.0  and it works well.  Upgraded to Visual Studio 2010.  When I open a project that references .Net 2.0 I get a message telling me that .Net Framework 2.0 is not detected, do I want to upgrade to 4.0?  I do not, as we are using 2.0.  How does Visual Studio 2010 determine which version I have installed.  In my registry under local machine/software I have Net Framework Setup which has folders for v1.1.4322, v2.0.50727, v3.0 , v3.5 and now v4 since installing VS2010.  I am running XP sp3 for my OS.

I have uninstalled Visual Studio 2010 and uninstalled .Net Framework 4, 3.5, 3, 2.. reinstalled 2.0, 3, 3.5 Visual Studio 2010 (which installs 4.0)  with same result.

versions of .Net that I have 1.1, 2.0 sp2, 3.0 sp1,  3.5 sp1, 4.0
