How do I Host Existing WCF Services in IIS 7?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 20, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WCF

I have some .svc files, a .dll, and a web.config file. I know that they work because I can add them to a new ASP.net web application and the services start. My problem is that I can't figure out how to start them from IIS. I have followed many tutorials but none of them work. Considering I have all of the files could someone give me the steps to start the services in IIS 7 please?

I have already ensured that IIS is installed, ASP.net stuff is installed, and ran ServiceModelReg.exe

An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host

I get this message when I try to launch a report (.rdl) from Windows Sharepoint 2007.  I have followed the steps to integrate SQL 2005 SP2 with Sharepoint 2007.  I can launch the report by navigating to "http://server:880/reportserver/.."  I am using a shared datasource that I created within sharepoint.  Any help would be appreciated.

WCF issues sending large data - "An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host"

Hi Guys I have posted the following on www.asp.net but thought it might be productive posting here too.I have been pulling my hair out trying to fix an issue with sending data over WCF, I have read pretty much every THREAD on this forum regarding or similar to this issue without any successful solution.  I have a simple data object which has a [DataMember] with a data type of byte[]. I use this to send binary data from my web app as follows: Asp.net MVC website --> WCF Client (Has my Service References) --> My Services (MyServices.svc) --> Business/Data Tier Everything is being executed from within VS 2008 Pro.   Now I have successfully sent data up to 2.2MB, however it fails if i try and send a file such as 2.3MB or larger i get the following exceptions: General Exception Exception rethrown at [0]:    at System.Runtime.Remoting.Proxies.RealProxy.HandleReturnMessage(IMessage reqMsg, IMessage retMsg)   at System.Runtime.Remoting.Proxies.RealProxy.PrivateInvoke(MessageData& msgData, Int32 type)   at SoftApp.WCFClient.MyServiceReference.IMyService.Document_Save(DtoDocument dtoDocument, Int32 usercode)   at SoftApp.WCFClient.MyServiceReference.MyServiceClient.Document_Save(DtoDocument dtoDocument, Int32 usercode) in c:\dev\softapp\softapp.wcfclient\service references\myservicereference\refe

How to use single windows service to host multiple WCF Services instances (Each instance of WCF is i

How to use single windows service to host multiple WCF Services. I have a mutiple instance of same WCF service in different folder, each instance has unique service name and port. WCFService has reference to Reg-Free COM Reference, i have Native.WCFService.manifest in each folder. Ex: WCFService1 is in "C:\WCFService01\WCFService.dll, Native.OCWCFService.manifest, OCWCFService.dll.config WCFService2 is in "C:\WCFService02\WCFService.dll, Native.OCWCFService.manifest, OCWCFService.dll.config Now i need host above services from single Windows Service. I am trying to create AppDomain for each above WCFService Instance from Windows Service and then host. Its working if i register COM dll in the server using regsvr32, but when i un register COM dll, i am getting unable to load COM component .... This looks like AppDomain is not loading COM DLL and Manifest files. Its looks strange but we need it in this way because we have production and test environment in the same server. Everything works fine if create a seperate Windows Service for each WCFService Instance, but my manager wants single Windows Service :). Any help whould be really appreciated.  ravi kumar reddy

Able to connect to non existing host

I made a little program that connects asynchronously to a host to check if it´s port is open or not: socket = New Socket(AddressFamily.InterNetwork, SocketType.Stream, ProtocolType.Tcp) Dim result As IAsyncResult = socket.BeginConnect(IpAddress, port, Nothing, Nothing) Dim isConnected As Boolean = result.AsyncWaitHandle.WaitOne(1000, True) It works just fine, but then this 1 person told me that he never seemed to get an offline notification when the server it´s off.   I sent him a simple test program using the code above that connects to an inexistent host (, and sure enough, he got an "On" message. He says his network works ok. He can play online, navigate webs and so on with no problems at all. I´m out of ideas. Am I doing something wrong in the code? Or is there some explanation to his network behaviour?   Thanks in advance.

How to develop WCF services and host them only using WSDL and schemas provided by client(consumer)?

Hi,I am new to WCF. I have just gone through sample calculator service examples and have very hazy understanding of WCF. I have one requirement  where i need to develop WCF services. I have been provided with WSDL and SCHEMAS and has been asked to develop WCF services part. The client part is ready and they need us to write webservices so they can consume it. Can anyone please xplain how could i begin with and from where ? Also what are schemas (XSD's) used for ? Also how would I make sure that after building webservices I have hosted the webservices in such a way that other people in our network could access them ?I have read forums where you have webservices  but need to write clients which can consume it, but not sure how to approach the above requirement. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please explain it considering I AM NOVICE/BEGINNER.  Thanks

how to merge existing code with web services.

Hello, I am new to ASP.NET.  I am just now learning about all the benefits.  I currently have some C# code that receives sensor signals such as distances from a robot and I wish to put that code into web services and into a website, so that if I want to gather some information from the robot i can through the web, as well as send signals back.  I haven't found any information yet on how to do this.

I am just looking on how to intergrate the existing C# code I have to a web service

Any help would be great and any example would be great.

Thanks in advance!!

Getting "A domain group is missing for one or more services" error when adding new node to existing

Hey all,

Current configuration:

2-node sql 2005 cluster

windows 2003 enterprise R2 w/ sp2 x64

sql 2005 enterprise x64 SP3

In the process of adding a third node into the existing 2-node cluster, we received the

"A domain group is missing for one or more services.  To install SQL 2005 as a failover cluster, domain groups must be specified for all the clustered services bing installed. To proceed, enter the missiong domain group information."

The existing cluster functions properly and has been running w/o problems for a long while now.  An AD Global Group was created to support the cluster back when the cluster was initially created.

I found different suggestions from people online about this issue, any where from adding registry keys to take trailing blank space from sql resource group name, but none works.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host

I would like some assistance with this. I have a distributed application that uses TCP .NET Remoting for communication between the server and client computers.

I am pretty sure the issue is network related because the application is currently running at multiple clients, it is running in instances where the UI on the client connects to the server over a TCP port over the internet. In this client's case, they have two sites in two different cities. The main site (where the server is located), the users connecting to the server are working fine. Even I can connect from my office if I connect via a VPN connection to their network. However, the other users from the other town, get the error "An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host" and their IT cannot seem to fix this.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

They've already done the following tests:
  • They can ping the server from the other site's computers
  • They can get an open connection when attempting a Telnet session
  • When using a sniffer to monitor the connection, they can see traffic flowing back and forth from the user machine to the server
  • On the firewall they have a

Installing and Uninstalling Services

Installing and Uninstalling Services.Unlike most projects you create in Visual Studio .NET, Windows Service projects cannot be run directly from the development environment by pressing F5. This is because the service in the project must be installed before the project can run.

You can quickly install your service application by using a command line utility called InstallUtil.exe.

Getting Started with Windows SharePoint Services

Of all of the capabilities of SharePoint, I thought I would start with the most basic installation - as a corporate intranet. It is likely that we will need to discuss some of the elements of SharePoint as we go along, so this also gives us the opportunity to review these elements for future reference.

Before going into too much detail, I would like to point out that you can try the core SharePoint framework (known as Windows SharePoint Services or WSS) for free. On Microsoft's Web site you can download a trial version of Virtual PC 2004 (VPC). Using VPC, you can install the Windows 2003 Evaluation Kit and the WSS add-on. This combination will give you 45 days to evaluate the setup.

Building a Searchable Phone Directory with Windows SharePoint Services

I want to continue to build out the intranet site we've started in our previous articles. A standard item in every intranet is a staff/employee list. Most companies implementing Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) are large enough to have a database that contains all employees. We will use the aggregation features of SharePoint to include data from this database into our intranet.
