SSRS 2008 R2 Dataset Field Value Property Data Type not numeric

We're building SSRS 2008 R2 reports using SSAS as data sources.  There are several occaissions where the data types of certain dataset field values that represent cube measures are not numeric.  As such, when these fields are used in an aggregate function they throw an error.  Is there a way to remedy this in the dataset? Thanks for your help.

VB.NET 2008 - How can i get system/shell icons position (Recycle Bin, My Computer etc) on Windows XP

Please, read this carefully. It is very important.

I already have the working code for all desktop icons position in VB.NET 2008, but it DOES NOT retrieve the systems icons position (like Recycle Bin, My Computer, My Documents etc), ONLY for the operating system Windows XP 32bit. This vb.net code works perfectly well and get the systems icons position, on Windows XP 64bit, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

So, the only problem that I have with this VB.NET 2008 code, is that it's NOT retrieving the system icons position, only on XP 32bit.

Can anyone help me ? I really need help, as I can't figure this out by myself.

Here is the VB.NET 2008 code:

Imports System.Runtime.InteropServices

Module mdlDesktopIcons

    Private Const STANDARD_RIGHTS_REQUIRED As Integer = &HF0000
    Private Const SECTION_QUERY As Integer = &H1S
    Private Const SECTION_MAP_WRITE As Integer = &H2S
    Private Const SECTION_MAP_READ As Integer = &H4S
    Private Const SECTION_MAP_EXECUTE As Integer = &H8S

After Visual Studio 2010 conversion from 2008 pages won't display in browser correctly

I just upgraded to 2010 and converted my VS 2008 ASP.NET web application. There were no conversion errors and everything displays in the Design mode correctly but when I try to View in Browser or debug the site won't display. I just get a blank page untitled page displayed.

Can anyone help me out with this problem?

property setting in report server (2008) config file is not working as expected.

I have set the <WorkingSetMinimum> property to 2.4GB in my reportserver 2008 config file.

By defintion, <WorkingSetMinimum> setting means,

  1. Lower limit of service memory consumption; memory will not be released if the consumption is below this amount, though the service will not reserve the designated amount of memory when it starts.
  2. If service uses more than the designated amout of memory, it will release back the memory only till this declared value and not beyond that, which means it should keep 2.4GB as designated.

SSAS 2008 - The OLAP data source has no property fields available for this dimension

Last week I was able to view member properties for my Product Dimension in Excel 2010 pivot tables. Suddenly, without having made any changes to the dimension (for example, in the Attribute Relationships window of the dimension), those member properties are no longer available in Excel. I get the error "The OLAP data source has no property fields available for this dimension" when I try to select "Show Properties in Report" or "Show Properties in Tooltips" in the Pivot Table. At the same time, member properties are available for all other dimensions. I have also not made any changes to the data source connection in Excel and in any event, there is no option in the data source connection to enable or disable member property visibility. I am using BIDS 2008 and SQL Server 2008 R2 (10.50.1600.1). Does anybody have an idea why this might be happening?

Page cannot be displayed when I am trying to View in browser with visual studio team system 2008

I have been working on this project for weeks.  Every thing was fine.  But all of sudden today, I got this error: Page cannot be displayed when I was trying to debug as usual.

I searched online for solution.  Only one solution was found at http://hubpages.com/hub/ASPNET-DEVELOPMENT-SERVER--WEB-PAGE-CANNOT-BE-DISPLAYED.  But when I followed its steps, I found in my hosts file, it is already like this:       localhost

I cannot continue to work without testing finished form pages.

Could somebody please help?

ssas 2008 getting "A connection cannot be made to redirector. Ensure that 'SQL Browser' service is

Hi ,

I need your help on this.  The SSAS is 2008.  It is a named instance.  there are two named SSAS instances on the server.

I have one user with excel client getting "A connection cannot be made to redirector. Ensure that 'SQL Browser' service is running." error.  My all other users' excel clients all seems to be working fine.

I made sure the OLEDB provider is 10.0.  Firewall must be off since all other users have no trouble getting connected. SQL Server Browser Service is running under 'local service' account.

The Excel client is 2007.

this is really a hard one.  I cannot figure out why just this one user cannot connect.   can you please help me?

SSAS 2008 - Dimension colmun/attribute not visible in cube browser?

Hi, I have one dimension and one fact table in SQL 2008 server...

i.e. DimEmployee (Columns : EmployeeID, FirstName, LastName, DateOfBirth, Addrss, PostCode, MobileNumber, Gender)
FactEmployeePay ( Columns : EmployeeID, Amount)

When I create SSAS 2008 cube on those two tables (Relationship is EmployeID colmun) , deploy/process project/cube and then I go to "Cube Browser", but in dimension Employee table I can not see any columns other than EmployeeID. Why in this simple cube I can not view other dimension columns like FirstName, LastName,....

Any idea for SSAS 2008?

SSAS 2008 - Date Member Property gets converted from NULL to (Blank)

Hello everyone,

I have this cube with a dimension of investment deals.  The "Deal" member has a attribute named "Latest Acquisition Date" where this date can be null for some deals.  Once the cube is processed, the null dates always get converted to "(blank)" either in BIDS cube browser or in Excel.  This happens no matter what I do to the NullProcessing property of this date attribute.

Is there any way to have SSAS display [NULL] (as in nothing at all) instead of "(blank)" ?

Remote access to SSAS (SQL Server 2008): problems with SQL Browser / UDP port 1434

Hello everyone,

since last Friday I'm fighting with an issue, which drives me crazy. I tried all the hints I found, but nothing worked. Now I address the community with a hope, that anyone can help me.

So, here is my situation: I have dedicated database server (server'S OS is Windows Server 2008, DBs are (1) SQL Server 2008 SE with all BI components, named instance and (2) SQL Server Express Edition, installed together with VS 2008), joined to our company's domain. My laptop is also in this domain. When I try to connect to the named instance of SSAS on that server from my laptop using SSMS or BIDS, connection fails. When I connect to SSAS on the server itself, it works.

What I did on Friday:

1) I opened all "SQL-server"-related ports in the server's firewall (including UDP port 1434 and TCP port 2382);

2) I tested UDP port with telnet (telnet <IP-address of the host> 1434) - ne response, neither localy nor remote;

3) portqry2 gives following output:
C:\PortQryV2>PortQry.exe -n <IP-address> -p UDP -e 1434

Querying target system called:

Attempting to resolve IP address to a name...

Failed to resolve IP address to name

Key Columns property when creating dimension hierarchy in Analysis Services 2008

HI All

I have 3 dimensions in our Data Warehouse, dimCampaign, dimCampaignList and dimCampaignTarget
Think of dimCampaign as a marketing campaign, that contains one or more Campaign Lists (offers) for which many customers (dimCampaignTargets) receive.  The are foreign key relationships between these 3 tables, and it is the dimCampaignTarget ids that are written to associated fact tables

I have created a single dimension in Analysis Services 2008 that contains these 3 tables and their respective relationships were set up in the DSV so that I could do this.  Rather than use the 'referenced' dimension method, I wanted a 'single' dimension containing the 3 tables and their snowflake relationships in order that I can create a hierarchy that contains attributes from differing tables (namely the Campaign Description from dimCampaign, and Campaign List Description from dimCampaignList).

My hierarchy has those 2 levels, top level is Campaign (description), and the 2nd level is Campaign List (description).  The Campaign Targets are not shown in the hierarchy, their attribute is only used in the dimension as the join to most of the fact tables.

Problem is when I set up my hierarchy, I go to change the Key Columns property of the Campaign List attribute to make it a collection of keys (Campaign and Campaign List) as I did in

SQL Server 2008 R2 Installation "Server Browser" Won't Allow Password Change

I'm trying to install SQL Server 2008 R2 (the one from dreamspark) on my computer for local testing on a database app I'm working on.  For some reason when it gets to the form that handles service accounts and server collation configuration,  SQL Full-text Filter Daemon Launcher greys out the Startup Type box, and SQL Server Browser greys out the account and password boxes.  I can't figure out how to change these in any way to make the darn program install.  The help file told me to uninstall any existing SQL Server items on the computer, and to the best of my knowledge the only ones left were installed with Visual Studio 2010.

I'm using it so that I can ultimately convert a bunch of .DBF files to SQL Server files that I can import into a Windows Form App.  It's not going to be used for any kind of networking or connectivity for some time, I just need it to fuse a bunch of dbf's into a coherent VS compatible file (I've read I have to run them through Access or Excel first, which I can an will do).

Can anyone explain what's going on with this or offer a better help link than the program?  I'm completely confused by their entire set up and installation methods.

Using Conditional Split data Transfer in SSIS 2008

This article uses the Integration Services Conditional Split Data Transformation element to filter and transfer data from a set of flat text files to SQL Server database table. The concept can be easily extended to apply to any other source or destination such as Microsoft Excel. This scenario is useful in creating denormalized database tables in a reporting and analysis situation.
