WPF debugging: Should I care for such Binding Information ?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 20, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WPF

I am showing a Window and get this text in the output window ( I have set in my VS debug options to everything not only errors):

System.Windows.Data Information: 10 : Cannot retrieve value using the binding and no valid fallback value exists; using default instead. BindingExpression:Path=FilePath; DataItem=null; target element is 'TextBox' (Name='); target property is 'Text' (type 'String')

System.Windows.Data Information: 10 : Cannot retrieve value using the binding and no valid fallback value exists; using default instead. BindingExpression:Path=Tags; DataItem=null; target element is 'TextBox' (Name='); target property is 'Text' (type 'String')

System.Windows.Data Information: 10 : Cannot retrieve value using the binding and no valid fallback value exists; using default instead. BindingExpression:Path=SaveDocumentCommand; DataItem=null; target element is 'Button' (Name='button1'); target property is 'Command' (type 'ICommand')

System.Windows.Data Information: 10 : Cannot retrieve value using the binding and no valid fallback value exists; using default instead. BindingExpression:Path=ShowFileDialogCommand; DataItem=null; target element is 'Button' (Name='button3'); target property is 'Command' (type 'ICommand')

Is this bad or good?

'No information was found about this pixel format error' on image binding

I've read all the posts I could find on this error but I'm still stumped.

I have a user control with a dependency property named Image.

In the user control I have a stack panel that contains an image and I set the binding in the xaml

<Image HorizontalAlignment="Center" Margin="3,0,0,0" Width="85" Height="75" Source="{Binding ElementName=UserControl, Path=Image}"/>

In a code behind I try to set the image for an instance of this control named WeatherNB

                BitmapImage bi1 = new BitmapImage();
                bi1.BeginInit();
                bi1.UriSource = new Uri(currentImage, UriKind.Relative);
                bi1.EndInit();
                this.WeatherNB.Image = bi1;

but I get the following error

Unhandled Exception: System.NotSupportedException: No information was found about this pixel format.

Save output tab/window information for debugging project compilation on server

Below is an example of when I run my VB.net project in VS2008, i have an "Output" tab at the bottom that shows some detailed information on what is going on.  My application builds & runs in debug within seconds, but on the server the very first load most mornings takes about 3 minutes.  I'd like to save this "Output" tab information to a text file so that when it runs on the actual server, i can see whats going on.  Maybe even add timestamps to it as well. Could someone please explain how to do this?  Thank you!

How to get more information about the exceptions that can happen in SharePoint 2010 projects?

In case there is an exception anywhere in the SharePoint 2010 project (most common place an exception would happen is during deployment of your SharePoint project, custom deployment configuration or custom deployment steps), there's a registry key EnableDiagnostics available for you to use.

WPF / Silverlight tutorial: Visibility property and binding

Visibility property is a very powerful and yet often overlooked property available in both WPF and Silverlight. It enables you to set Visibility of certain UIElement objects to different states like: Visible, Collapsed and Hidden (not supported by Silverlight). This tutorial shows you how to use it and how to bind to Visibility property

Seven reasons to care about SQL Server 2008 R2

Microsoft begins to fully realize its vision of SQL Server as an information platform and not "just" a database. Hence the main theme for this release -- at least according to Microsoft -- is self-service BI. The PowerPivot plug-ins for Excel 2010 and SharePoint 2010 are easily going to make the biggest splash of all the new features, not least because they're the most complete. But then, SQL Server 2008 R2 isn't strictly necessary for PowerPivot for Excel, which works with plenty of other data sources.

Binding an array to dropdown list

I have the following string which is a list of urls. How do I get this to work so the url shows for the selection and also is the value?

allLinks = newAllLinks

        Me.DropDownList1.DataTextField = "Link"
        Me.DropDownList1.DataValueField = "LinkURL"
        Me.DropDownList1.Items.Insert(0, New ListItem(" - Select - ", 0))
        Me.DropDownList1.DataSource = allLinks
        Me.DropDownList1.DataBind()

Binding Nested Listviews in MVC ViewPage

I am a longtime .NET developer but for big applications and services.  This is my first asp.net project and I have chosen MVC.   I have a need for nesting a ListView within a ListView.  In this simple catalog app, I have EF 4 Entities that are Categories, SubCategories, ItemTypes, and Items.

My goal is to display a 5 column layout of SubCategories with their ItemTypes below them in a ViewPage.  I did just fine with it done out in C# as server directives such as:

    var subcats = Model.SubCategory.ToArray();
    var nrSubCats = subcats.Count();
    var rows = (nrSubCats/5) + (((nrSubCats % 5) > 0) ? 1 : 0);
    for (var row = 0; row < rows; row++)
    { %>
        <div style="width: 100%; float: left; clear: right;">
        <%
        var start = row * 5;
        for (var i = start; (i < start + 5) && (i < nrSubCats); i++)
        {
        var subcat = subcats[i];
        %>
            <div style="float: left; clear: right; width: 20%; margin-left: 5;">
                <h2> <%:subcat.Name%></h2>
                <ul>
                    <%
                    foreach (var its in subcat.ItemType)
                    {%>
                        <li>
                            <%:Html.

VS2010 Professional .NET 4.0 Remote Debugging ASP Website Project

Trying to remote debug ASP website from VS2010 Pro to Windows Server 2003 machine.  Specifically, trying to debug a Web Service, but breakpoint says, "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document."  This happens for all compiled code though.  I have read this is due to missing PDB files and the work around is to manually copy them, as noted here.  Problem is, I cannot find any PDB files for my project, except referenced libraries, which I can remote debug.

Verified

  • web.config has <compilation debug="true">
  • Debugger is attached to wewp.exe process on remote server
  • Installed VS2010 remote debugger from DVD (as I can remote debug referenced libraries)

This is beyond frustrating.  I migrated my code from VS2008 .Net3.5 to VS2010 .Net4.0 to take advantage of the inherent multithreading framework.  Debugging works when using local host and was stable until deployment to test server.

Thanks in advance,

Anthony

Information about sessions

Some questions about sessions:

I know sessions information is stored in the form of cookie and you can use qurystring for that if you set cookieless session in web.config. But I don't exactly understand the scope of a session.

What I believe is when you login to a website, a session cookie is created and the scope of that session is within that page only. If you close the browser that session gets killed and when you open the browser again and go to that site then a new session is created ie a new session is created on every request. Is this correct?

But I have seen in many websites, even if you close the browser and open it again the session is not killed, how does that happen?

Can anyone clear out and explain the scope/lifetime of sessions

Thanks

ERROR [HY000] [Informix .NET provider][Informix]Database locale information mismatch

Hi, there is an upgrade to my infimacs server and my web application encounter this error after the infimacs is upgraded.

Below is the information on the server before/after the upgrade.

Before            After

---------       -----------

Solaris 8      Solaris 10

IDS 9.40     IDS 11.50

The web server where the web application hosted is running IBM Informix Connect 2.81. There is no such error before the upgrade is done.

As a developer, i have IBM Informix Client-SDK 2.90 installed on my local pc and debug the page where the read is needed from infimacs but no such error found.

The error come out only when it is hosted on the web server where IBM Informix Connect 2.81 is installed.

I have gone through many articles and it suggest me to set the environement  variable in the server :  DB_LOCALE=en_us.819.

I haven't try this solution but i think that this might not be the best solution.

Is it possible to to to have this settin

HttpHandler works with Visual Studio Development Server debugging, but not otherwise

Hi all,

I'm new to HttpHandlers.  I am writing an HttpHandler that reads uploaded files directly from the request stream to provide progress that can be queried using an AJAX request.  For large files, this seems to be faster than having ASP.NET load the file contents into Request.Files and then streaming the file from there to wherever it goes (Linq to SQL into a VARBINARY column in an SQL Server database.)

My HttpHandler works perfectly when I'm debugging using the Visual Studio Development Server, but doesn't work otherwise.  The application pool for this application in IIS 7 is set to run in Classic Mode, and the Handler Mappings screen in IIS says that I must manage managed handlers in system.web/httpHandlers.

I set up in my applications Web.config file.

<add verb="GET,POST" path="*.upload" type="Namespace.For.UploadHandler, AssemblyForUploadHandler"/>

It works great, so long as I don't debug with the "Use Local IIS Web server" option.

What else do I need to do to get this to work?

Thanks!

Debugging ASHX after deployment

Hi,

I'm finished with a part of my ASHX handler and need to test it against the software that'll be calling it using HTTP POST. The software required an https url so I created an internally hosted site in IIS and published the project there.

Question now is how do I do any debugging on the script to see what data is coming out of it before the data goes back into the software that's calling it? Do I set something on the project itself to be able to step into the published DLL?

How to send an email with information in query string

First I will say I googled (Binged to make Bill happy) for this but could not find anything, perhaps I am not stating what I need correctly;

I have a website that a customer creates orders (for a printing company) and after the order, I would like to email the customer a link to view the status of their order;

I need to send the CustomerID in the link so on the returning page if a CustomerID is detected in the querystring, I "auto login" the client and open the "Dashboard" for the order page for that customer.

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to how to send the link and how to parse the querystring to get the values from the link;

Thank you if you can point me in the right direction.
