adding static text before Bind() in datalist control

Hello, I have a datalist control

In it, I have a hyperlink that im binding the url, and the text to from a mysql database

here is my code so far

<asp:HyperLink ID="HyperLink1" runat="server"
    NavigateUrl='<%#Bind("topicid") %>' Text='<%# Bind("title") %>'></asp:HyperLink>

Now, the problem is, the field "topicid" returns a number, such as 3. I want to add the following text before it: viewTopic.aspx?id=

So, ideally, i want something like this

<asp:HyperLink ID="HyperLink1" runat="server"
    NavigateUrl='<%# "viewTopic.aspx?id=" + Bind("topicid") %>' Text='<%# Bind("title") %>'></asp:HyperLink>

But, when I do it that way, I obviously get an error.

So, is there any way to solve this problem without having to modify the database?

Thank You

How to set a wpf combobox displaymemberitem to a column in 1 table and bind text displayed to a colu

I have a combobox that has a datacontext set to a 'Customer Type' that is a customer CRUD window in WPF that itself has a datacontext of 'Customer' - when i scroll through my customer table entries that have been populated into a listbox, all of the corresponding textboxes on my CRUD window update to reflect the values stored in the Customer table except the combobox.  If I change the datacontext of the combobox to be 'Customer' the text updates correctly when scrolling through but the dropdown contents are now duplicated to match the number of records.  So my problem is this;

How can I display the itemssource as the 'Customer Type.Customer_Type' datacontext, but display the Text as 'Customer.Customer_Type'?

The closest i could compare it to would be a winforms example of setting the combo's DataSource to 'Customer_Type' on the combo with a displaymember of 'Customer_Type' and then making the DataBindings 'Text' property of the combo to be 'Customer.Customer_Type' so it displays the value stored in customer but as soon as you drop it down it shows non-repeated values that are contained in customer_type.customer_type.

Right now in wpf if the datacontext is customer, the combo displays customer_type as follows:

How to bind text containing HTML and ASP.NET tags from database

I have to show dynamic charts to clients.

I created table: ChartCodes

ChartCodeID     Code

1                      <asp:SqlDataSource ID='SqlDataSource_Chart1' runat='server' ConnectionString='<%$ ConnectionStrings:ConnectionString %>' SelectCommand='Usp_GetTotalEmissions_Org_chart' SelectCommandType='StoredProcedure'><SelectParameters>< . . .. . . . .

I wrote code of chart with sqldatasource in database column.

My problem is I could not able bind. I used DataList Control with a template and literal.

Bind literal with <%# Eval("Code") %>

But In sql I have ASP.NET tags <%  %>.   and when processing process %>, it assumes asp.net ends and wrote other text as it is in out put.

Please help me to find how to bind this text. Or any other Idea to display graphs from database as per user selection.

Cannot set Text in a TextBlock?

I am having the most bizarre problem - I cannot change the contents of a TextBlock. This is only 1 place in my program; in other places I have no issue. Just a simple command like

MyTextBlock.Text = "Hello there";

does nothing. I tried first populating its contents (or not), changing alignment, font weight - nothing. Must be something obvious I am missing here - hopefully someone can shed some light. Thanks much.

TextBlock Text not refreshed after raising PropertyChanged - object instance the same, ToString() re

I am working with an object that handles localized strings.  The object type (LocalizedString) provides the correct localized string in its ToString() method.

I have a view model that exposes a property of type LocalizedString.  When my current thread and ui culture is changed, I raise the property changed event for this property, however the strings in the UI do not get updated.

I narrowed it down some to discover that it stops working after the value has been read from the property once.  If instead of just raising property changed when the culture changes I do this:

LocalizedString temp = MyProperty;
MyProperty = null;
MyProperty = temp; // <-- property changed gets raised in the setter

It seems to work.  The only difference is that the LocalizedString object instance changed.

Basically I believe what happens is this:  The dependency property (TextBlock.Text in this case) gets notified that the bound value has changed.  It goes and retrieves the property value (LocalizedString object), does a comparison and sees that the previous value and the new value are the same object instance, and stops - does not refresh the

AutoCompleteStringCollection for text box in DataGridView 2.0

I have been searching for a way to have autocomplete in a DataGridTextBox
object. There does not appear to be an obvious way to do this like you would
for a TextBox outside of a grid using the AutoCompleteCustomSource. Any
thoughts on how I can add this collection? :)

Built-in Functions - Text and Image Functions in SQL Server

Text and image functions operate on TEXT, NTEXT and IMAGE data types. These data types are deprecated with SQL Server 2005 and should be replaced by VARCHAR(MAX), NVARCHAR(MAX) and VARBINARY(MAX) when possible. Alternatively you can also consider storing large string values using XML data type. Text and image functions are nondeterministic.

Future versions of SQL Server will not support TEXT, NTEXT and IMAGE data types. Columns with TEXT / NTEXT data type do not support commonly used string functions such as LEN, LEFT, RIGHT, etc. Furthermore, due to the large size of TEXT data you''re likely to see performance issues if you store such data in the database. However, at times you can''t help but use the TEXT / NTEXT / IMAGE data types (for example when supporting 3rd party databases when you cannot change the schema) - this is when text and image functions come in handy.

How to bind GridView and DropDownList controls using DataTable object

In .net framework 2.0, you can load a DataTable in memory by consuming a data source using a DataReader. In this version you will find the flexibility in accessing the DataReader means write access code once and use again and again using DataReader. To see the functionality of DataTable consider an example that is created using VS2005.

reference from menubuttons to text parts in article on the same page

Hi, I'm searching now for hours but couldn't find it.Cry

In my menu i have several buttons which (by a <a href..) should go the a part of an article that is in the same form.

Menu button : What is a database should go to the page default.aspx and in there is an article published.
A part of this article is having a piece of text about "what is a database"

Menu button: how to make a query should go to this same article in the same page but then to the part that is have the piece about the query. The next could be an example of what i'm doing:

    <li><a href="default.aspx ?????>what is a database</a></li>
    <li><a href="default.aspx ?????>what is a query</a></li>

Where my question marks are, there should be a connection to that particular piece of text.
In each article part there is an ID="text1" and the second part id="text2"

How shoudl i do that, Should i use a question mark.
Please give me some guidance how to structure the <li> statement or a pointer where I can read about it.

text editor

 I format lines in a .aspx file (source view) the way I can use them, and if I switch to design view or view in browser or debug, the many lines get reformatted to flow all onto one line.

I can't seem to find the correct setting to keep this from happening.

Any suggestions?

Unique text value in databse column

Hi Everyone!

I know this is probably a very basic question but how do I keep a column's text values unique in SQL server (ie for a unique username)?  The column is not an integer it's varchar(50), and it's not the primary key but I could make it the primary key if recommended.

The front end could handle it;  where the user would enter text, it's validated, then a query is done to see if that username is available.  If so, then user can decide to choose it and an insert is done, if not they pick a new username and process repeats.  With this approach, the responsibility of keeping the value unique solely rests on the front end, nothing on the database side.

Is this the correct way to handle this?

Thank you!
