Records Management - How does one do eDiscovery across site-collections?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 20, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

In a farm with a rather flat architecture with many many site-collections, with in-place records management on all content (!), we need to do eDiscovery across all information in SharePoint.

We can do eDiscovery within site-collection from site settings, but thats hardly the case for larger farms where you need to do e-discovery across site-collections.

Any guidance or experiences shared is appreciated.

How to stop unauthorized users from sending documents to a Records Center site?

How to create a single entry page for site collections in MOSS 2007

I have  7 site collections containing a few hundred team collaboration sites. Some users are internal (intranet) but most are external (extranet). Extranet users are experiencing problems with losing links to their sites and forgetting which URLs to use. So I would like to create a single entry page that all users can enter after the logon process, which shows a list of sites they have permission to access, and other user-specific information. Perhaps relevant documents, tasks, recently modified documents etc.

I know this sounds like a 'My Site' but we want to use use a general welcome page instead. We use Windows authentication.
What is the best way of doing this and is it something that can be done in SharePoing Designer or does it need to be done in Visual Studio?

Many thanks in advance.

SharePoint now has a record management feature that can be activated on any site so that you no longer need to create a separate record center site to manage your documents. (Length: 2:33)

User Alert Management for a specific list versus entire SharePoint site?

It seems that to be able to manage User Alerts, one must have Full Access to the entire SharePoint site - and then use => Site Settings > User Alerts. Ideally, I would like to be able to grant access to users to only be able to manage alerts for a specific list. Is this possible (without having to do any programming) and, if so, how? If such access is only available at the site level, I will simply create a Permission Level that allows one to only "Manage Alerts" Thanks in advance for any assistance. Dave

Global Navigation across Site Collections

MOSS 2007 Global Navigation across Site Collections I have couple of questions. a) Is there an easy way to share a global navigation between site collections? b) Portal has the navigation tabs (tab1..n). User doesn't have access to all the tabs, may have access to one or more tabs. Each tab represents a site collection. Is there a way to display the only tabs to which the users have access? If we can develop using SDK, please provide some hints.   Thanks,

How to deploy dashboards made in dashboard designer to diferent site collections?

Hi I just migrated from sharepoint 2007 to 2010. We used to have performance point dashboards spread across libraries in subsites all across our primary site collection "Http://server:x" after I migrated I understand that I must migrate all performance point content to a new site or site collection made with the business intellingence template. I created a new site collection with this template (Http://server:x/sites/pps) and succesfully migrated all performance point content. Now I want to redeploy all the dashboards to their respective subsites in the  "Http://server:x" site collection so that everything looks exactly as it did when we where using SharePoint 2007. But when I try to deploy to a site I only get the option to deploy it to the ("Http://server:x/sites/pps") site collection and its respective libraries. I wish to manage all dashboard content centralized in (Http://server:x/sites/pps) but I want to deploy dashboards to libraries across  "Http://server:x" is this posible or how is Performance Point services supossed to work?   I also having trouble with DashBoard designer. I have everthing running on a Virtual Machine test enviroment. With windows server 2008 r2, 4 gb ram. Everything installed in one machine. And Suddently DashBoard Designer Crashes In the event log I get the error Dashboa

How to get the list of all Site Collections that a user has access to

Hi All, Whats the best way to get the list of all Site Collections that a user has access to, under a particular Web Application? I have about 20-30 site collectiosn under the same WebApplication, and iterating through all of them for checking if the user has permissions is a bit performance expensive. Is there any other way of doing it?  Manesh K

After succefully creating the root on port 80 and a couple of site collections, whenever I shoot IE http://mymoss or any othe site collection, I go right away to the web site without the usual authentification dialog box. On the right jand side, I see I am logged in as "System account". When I try to "sign in as a different user", enter domain\administrator, who is owner, the dialog box just keeps coming back and I can not log. . Thanks in advance

Top Global Navigation across site collections(?)

Hi, My understanding at the conference was that SharePoint 2010 closed the gap in navigation in that 2010 could see across site collections thus allowing for you to have visibility of those site collections in your global navigation.  However, I can't seem to locate this feature. Does anyone know how you can configure your global navigation to span across site collections? Thank you for your comments, Tim

searching across multiple site collections?

Say we plan to have a site collection at the root and want user in that site collection to be able to search across multiple site collections in the same web application? Is this possible?

thanks for any help or information.

Search across multiple site collections

I am working on a MOSS 2007 farm and like to know what would be a best way to setup Search so that I can search across multiple Site Collections? Basically, our SharePoint farm use to have only one site collection with lots of subsites. We reorganized and  promoted a lot of those subsites to site collections. After the promotion, I noticed that on each of the new site collection under the search dropdown, the only search scope that was available was “This Site”. I was able to fix this by changing search settings and creating a custom scope by providing the link to the Search Center site that had already existed in the root site collection. However, when I try to search from any site collection using the "All Sites" search scope, no results are displayed and I get a blank page. Any idea what I might be doing wrong? Thanks in advance for your help.

Use centrally defined search scopes in departmental site collections?

I have SSE 2010 installed and functioning.  Seven "shared" scopes have been defined and show as having the expected number of items.   In my departmental web apps I have created Advanced Search and results pages so the users do not have to leave their own web app to do searches across those defined scopes.  Unfortunately the only way I found to make those scopes available in their Advanced Search web part was to "copy" the shared scopes (they display in an "unused scopes" group with no options for use).   The copy allows me to specify that the scope should appear in the Advanced Search web part and/or in the search box dropdown.   Is there anyway to use those "unused" shared scopes without creating a complete copy set of them in every site collection?   Thanks for any assistance you can provide!
