asp.net 3.5 Time Field in FormView

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 20, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

This is the sqlDateTime overflow problem again.  Background.  As I'm sure you know dates must be between 1/1/1753 and 12/31/2999.  If you have an empty date field, it throws and exception.  So I created a function (below) that solve the problem when attempting to update or insert a record with a date field. Works great.

Public Shared Function MakeDateField(ByVal pasDate As String) As Nullable(Of DateTime)

      If IsDate(pasDate) Then

            If pasDate <= System.DateTime.MinValue Then
               Return Nothing
               Return CType(pasDate, DateTime)
            End If
         Catch ex As NullReferenceException
            Return Nothing
         End Try

FormView Text Field Being Set by A Drop Down List

Hello, I have a FormView which is used to insert a record into a database.  Outside of this formview i have a drop down list, I want to grab the value from that drop down list and set one of the text fields within the formview to it's currently selected value.  I've tried the following code, but the dynamic categorytextbox line is what seems to not be working.

                    <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlCategory" runat="server" AutoPostBack="True"
DataSourceID="SqlDataSourceCategory" DataTextField="CategoryName"
DataValueField="CategoryID" Width="200px">

                            <asp:TextBox ID="CategoryIDTextBox" runat="server"
Text='<%# Bind("CategoryID") %>' Visible="False" />

        protected void FormView1_DataBound(object sender, EventArgs e)
dynamic varCategory = ddlCategory.SelectedValue;
dynamic categoryTextBox = FormView1.FindControl("CategoryIDText

Use Sharepoint Calendar Start Time field in calculated column

I'm trying to limit the calendar view to current week using the Sharepoint defined field Start Time. However, when I display the serial number behind the Start Time it looks like it is actually giving me the serial number for the Created Date field. I believe it is because the appointment is reoccurring but I'm hoping there is a way around it. I created a new testdate field and manually entered the date and set those appointments as all day events however they are not reocurring appointments. The testdate returns the correct serial number however the start time returns an incorrect serial number. SerialNumber1=DATE(YEAR([Start Time]),MONTH([Start Time]),DAY([Start Time])) SerialNumber2=DATE(YEAR([testdate]),MONTH([testdate]),DAY([testdate])) Start Time  SerialNumber1 Testdate  SerialNumber2 8/31/2010 40420 8/31/2010 40421 8/31/2010* 40405    9/1/2010* 40405    9/2/2010* 40405    9/7/2010 40427 9/7/2010 40428 9/13/2010* 40405    9/14/2010 40434 9/14/2010 40435 9/14/2010* 40405    9/15/2010* 40405    *These are reoccurring appointments scheduled as all day events. The others were entered as one time appointments scheduled as all day events.

How do I format a date time field in a CQWP to YY-MM-DD ?

Hi. I have been trying to get the date-time to look good for some time now, but have failed. I have a Content Query web part that picks up article pages from a page library. The pages contains a field called 'article date'. I want to show just the 'Title' and the 'Article date'. Doing this default gives me: My title 10-09-03 00:00:00 I want it to be: My title 10-09-03 Is this possible? I'm starting to realize that I probably have to edit the xsl styles for this webpart but if thats the answer, how do I do that? ThanksThomas Balkeståhl - Technical Specialist - SharePoint

SSRS 2005 Render Format Excel Issue with Time Field

I have a report that uses a datetime field but gets populated only with the time. So, in SQL db, it gets stored with a default date value of 1899-12-30 12:01:01 with the correct time filled in. Report in SSRS Preview mode displays the value just fine when I use the Time format in Layout mode. I build and deploy and able to view the report in a web browser with no problem displaying the time field. But when I subscribe to the report and choose Excel render format, when I open up the Excel file from the email that was sent, I get negative decimal values. I have tried every possible Time format in SSRS but I get the same result. I also tried just the default and still gives me negative decimal values that show up as ####### in Excel.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Setting a date time field to now

Workflow SPD: Set Today Date+Time to Column-field

I have a little question about settings specific today (Date + Time) value to a field/column within a workflow that is designed by Sharepoint Designer 2007.

I can manage to set the field to today() => but the time is always 00:00 houres.

I would like to set a specific field to the "exact" date+time when the workflow is running. (so choosing a fixed date+fixed Time isn't a solution either)

So I anyone could help me how I can do such "simple" task, I would be very pleased.

Time added to Detailsview TextBox Date only field

Does anyone know why a time stamp is added to a textbox field that is bound to a SQL 2008 date datatype field?

I can view the data in the database and, as expected, it only contains a date. When I bind the textbox to the db field it tacks the time '12:00:00 AM' to the end of the date?

display only the date (not time) from a sqlserver date field in dynamic data

I have some Date fields defined in my sqlserver database but these display with a time part as well (00:00:00).

how do i esnure that only the date part is displayed and not this redundant time?

Insert Ignored When Time Field Populated (MaskedEditExtender & MaskedEditValidator)

I have a C#/ASP.NET web application that utilizes the Entity Framework and pages with DetailsView controls that provide CRUD operations through EntityDataSource objects. The fields in the DetailsView control are template fields with various standard ASP.NET web controls. I have a table that contains various fields with different data types, including time(7). However, the controls for the time fields also have the AJAX MaskedEditExtender and MaskedEditValidator controls attached to them.

Everything works great, until a record is inserted where a value is specified for a time field. When that happens, it acts like it's inserting, posts back, executes statements, etc. but no record is inserted. No statement is sent to SQL (as seen by a SQL trace), no exception is thrown, nothing... it acts as if everything went perfectly, it just doesn't insert the record.

Since no exception is thrown and the code being executed is inside the EF, I'm kind of at a loss as to where to track this down. I have "Enable .NET Framework Source Stepping" enabled, but it doesn't step into the EF code. Can someone help?

Discrepancy in Calculated Field using Date/Time

I have a calendar item as part of my MOSS 2007 site and would like to show the events coming up in the next 30 days on my home page.  After some research I understand that I cannot filter on the Start Time field when I try to create a view, so I've created a new field called Event Begin that is a calculated field set to =[Start Time].  I can then create my view for the upcoming events by filtering on the calculated Event Begin column.

This works well, except for events that are marked as All Day.  In this case, the value of the Start Time shows midnight as the time (i.e. 1/11/2008 12:00 AM) which is fine, but the value of the Event Begin column shows the time 5 hours earlier (i.e. 1/10/2008 7:00 PM).  I am not subtracting anything when calculating the Event Begin value, so my initial thought is that I have a conflict between Time Zone settings somewhere.

I am Eastern Standard Time here in the US which is GMT-5:00, which would explain the 5 hour difference.  Unfortunately, I cannot figure out where the incorrect Time Zone setting might be.  Within my site the time zone is correct (under Site Settings >

Date time field in list

I have created a list with data time field. In the date time field,by default in minutes dropdown we are having 0,5,10.... with 5 as interval.

But I need to enter data time field as 11/16/2010 12AM 03.

How to change the intervals in minutes dropdown.

BCS - Datetime field and time zones

I have an external list that has a datetime column. I get the value for this column from my SQL server database.

The value in the database is '2010-10-30 17:00:00.000', but when the value is displayed in my external list it is converted to '2010-10-30 18:00:00.000'. This is done because the time zone for my sharepoint site is set to UTC+1.

I do not want SharePoint to convert the datetime. I want the value in external list to be '2010-10-30 17:00:00.000' no matter what the time zone is set to on my site.

How can I do that?

compare date field in sharepoint designer without considering time

I  set date1 field in sharepoint designer with “set field in current item” action. And in next step I want to compare date1 with another date field. With “if date1 not equal to date2”

although I set  “Date & Time Format” to “Date only”, my problem is sharepoint designer consider time ( although my condition is true ,I think its compare the time of my date field and cant go next step) and I don’t want it. I want to compare date filed only with date,

what should I do, that sharepoint designer only consider Date in Date field in action?

Thanx a lot.

Text control bound to Time field defaults to "12 AM" each time you enter "12"

I have and InfoPath 2007 form that has a text field, bound to a Time field, with format set to "9:46 AM".

When tesing the form I can enter '0', ''0:00' or '12AM' in the text field and InfoPath automatically (and correctly) converts these values to '12:00 AM' ,'12:59 AM'.

Howerver if I enter '12', '12:30', InfoPath converts these to '12:00 AM' and '12:30 AM' respectively.   This becomes a problem, since our users expect '12', '12:30' to mean '12:00 PM' to '12:30PM'.

To enter the PM time we are forced to type '12 PM' or "12:30 PM', and InfoPath to render the correct time.

But users can get careless, typing '12' for noon and not notice that wrong time.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

NOTE: I'm working on InfoPath 2007, but this behaviour is the same in InfoPath 2010.

Sending an email when a field is set to a value for the second time

I am using SharePoint 2007.

I created a workflow using SharePoint Designer 2007. It sends an email only when the status of an item in a list is changed to "Completed". I used a hidden column called "EmailSent" to keep the workflow from looping. When the email is sent, the "EmailSent" field is set to "Yes" and no future emails are sent.

However, I do want another email to be sent when the status of an item is changed from "Completed" to another value such as "Reopenend", then back to "Completed" again. How do I do that?

Thanks in advance.

Round off time to the nearest minute

How would you round this up to the nearest minute? There isn't a built in function to do this so you have to use a little bit of maths to get there. There are 60 seconds in a minute. We already have 38 seconds on the clock. So we need to add on 60 - 38 = 22 more seconds.
