SharePoint document migration challenges when migrating files and folders

There are several challenges when migrating documents to Microsoft SharePoint. While these challenges can be overcome, they are a real pain if the migration source, content and file systems are not SharePoint friendly.

ASP.net copies my dll and pdb files inconsitantly to temp folders

Hi - Basic problem is I can't debug because the dlls and pdb files get out of sync. Seems ASP.NET (or my VS2008 Pro settings) copies the dlls and pdb to asp.net files inconsistantly. For example today (9/8/10) I just did a clean, then rebuild of the project. Then when I look for the dll and pdb files on the hard drive I see:  Volume in drive C has no label. Volume Serial Number is 3EAF-1489  Directory of C:\Mypower\Mypower_WebEngine_UI\Mypower_WebEngine_UI\bin 09/06/2010  09:29 PM           221,184 Mypower_WebEngine_UI.dll  Directory of C:\Mypower\Mypower_WebEngine_UI\Mypower_WebEngine_UI\bin 09/06/2010  09:29 PM           501,248 Mypower_WebEngine_UI.pdb               2 File(s)        722,432 bytes  Directory of C:\Mypower\Mypower_WebEngine_UI\Mypower_WebEngine_UI\obj\Debug 09/06/2010  09:29 PM           221,184 Mypower_WebEngine_UI.dll  Directory of C:\Mypower\Mypower_WebEngine_UI\Mypower_WebEngine_UI\obj\Debug 09/06/2010  09:29 PM           501,248 Mypower_WebEngine_UI.pdb     &

Is there a compelling reason for .dotx and .xltx files in the Windows Sharepoint Services Folders

Having templates here is a bit counter to what I had thought was standard practice of putting template files on a template path so that they would appear on the new file menu. Placing a template into a document library thatr should contain document instances is really confusing. In some cases it might be prudent to create a content type linked to the template ( .dotx/potx/xltx) and assign it to the document library..

My short question -- will I screw up the template if I change the installed templates to instance documents ( e.g dotx -> docx ) ?

Binding to xml files in folders

I am trying to bind few controls to my xml, but each tutorial that I read uses only files in resources and that is not my case.

I have a little complicated structure (more same .xml in folders), e.g.

        contains:  employees.xml, suplies.xml, investment.xml

Folder: Store2

        contains:  employees.xml, suplies.xml, investment.xml

Folder StoreN:

        contains:  employees.xml, suplies.xml, investment.xml

These folders StoreK are not in app execution folder, but are in appData/mySoft folder...

So What do you think, should I Bind to xml (How is the question? ) or should I create some Classes, that represents these xmls and bind to these classes?

And I need it to be bothWay (thats  thing that I cant understand how is done in Binding to xml)

Some link to similar problem/tutorial would be great, or example code?

P.S. I know how to bind to xml in resources using XPath, problem is how to bind to more folders with the same structure of xmls...

File Stream Folders / Files still in file system

Hi All,

I have dropped and re-created a table that contains filestream columns.  When I have done this I see that the original folders / files still exist out on the file system.  How is it that these will get removed since the orignal table(s) have been dropped and re-created?

Looks like the folders are always two levels deep.  What does each represent? I can see the actual files, but what do the parent / child folders represent?

I also see the F$log folder.

some utilities not running on files present in system32 folders, i doubt its a permission issue

We are running FCIV utility on the files of systems32 folders in windows server 2008 R2. Though it runs successfully on many of the files, its giving following error on few of the files like c:\windows\system32\acproxy.DLL:

Following is the Error *********

Error msg  : The system cannot find the path specified.

        Error code : 3

I suspect its something to do with the changed security model of Windows server 2008 R2. which is not allowing the utility to run on certain files.

One thing to note is that i ran the same utility on the same file saved in d:\acproxy.DLL, and utility could run successfully.

Please help me resolve the issue.

Clean Web.Config Files (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

.NET 4 includes a new version of the CLR, and a new .NET 4 specific machine.config file (which is installed side-by-side with the one used by .NET 2, .NET 3 and .NET 3.5).

The new .NET 4 machine.config file now automatically registers all of the ASP.NET tag sections, handlers and modules that we've added over the years, including the functionality for:

.ASP.NET Dynamic Data
.ASP.NET Routing (which can now be used for both ASP.NET WebForms and ASP.NET MVC)
.ASP.NET Chart Control (which now ships built-into ASP.NET V4)
What this means is that when you create a new "Empty ASP.NET application" project in VS 2010, you'll find that the new default application-level web.config file is now clean and simple:

How to transfer files between computer and mobile device using bluetooth

What is Bluetooth? How can I have it on my computer?

Bluetooth wireless technology is a communication technology that allows two devices to communicate wirelessly. Most of the notebooks are nowadays equipped with bluetooth. For those notebooks or computers that don't, you can use a bluetooth dongle to add the functionality and it just costs you around $5. Although higher price range bluetooth dongles are available but it makes no sense of buying them if you just plan to connect your mobile device to the computer. Look for one that has Bluetooth v2.0 + EDR (Enhance Data Rate) supporting speeds of upto 3Mbps and with Vista support. You can easily have one of that kind in just $5.

Setting up bluetooth to work on your computer

Just Insert the bluetooth dongle in the USB.
It should get detected by your Operating System and should be ready to use. In case it is just detected as a new hardware, you need to install drivers for it that came with your bluetooth dongle (You can try Google to find the drivers).
Once drivers are installed, a bluetooth notification icon will appear in your system tray.
Right Click on it to access Settings (This may vary with your bluetooth dongle).
Make sure you have turned Discovery On (It allow others to see your computer).
Switch On the bluetooth on the mobile device.

dynamically adding sql server columns based on number of files in fileuploader

I want to create a new table to sql database at runtime.  The column names would be "Name", "Date", "Event".  I would also like to have one more column name "Image" but the problem is that since the amount of images will vary, I want the application to count the amount of files in the Multiple fileuploader and then add a image column to the table for the respected amount of files.

For example if i am uploading 3 files in the multiple fileuploader, the names should be "Name", "Date", "Event", "Image1", "image2", Image3"

I also would like that table name to be name dynamically from the textbox Name when the user enters the information.

I have the following code to make a new table, but I dont know how to name the fields at runtime like previously asked please help!!!
