C# Thread Safe Class events

Right now I have created a custom base class that has numerous events.  These events have non-standard signatures and are fired from a thread I have that is basically just a while loop checking variables against older ones for telling when something has changed. As far as I know this is the best way to go about doing this is to just make a void on another thread in a while (true) loop, in the loop just doing ifs... than doing a thread sleep.  I make sure the thread is a background thread that way it'll exit propertly when the consumer exits.  If anyone knows a beter way of going about this than stop reading here. :) If not that onto my real question... I have events that are fired from this loop on the thread I created, now they're attatched on the consumer app and no matter what I do I can't seem to get these events to be thread-safe so that I don't have to use the Control.Invoke method for each event. If anyone knows anything that'll help me out it'll be much appreciated. Thanks,Chad

Session or Request in class without passing as param

I'd like to be able to reference the asp.net objects Session, Request, from a procedure without passing them in as parameters all the time. Is there a way to do this. For example, now I have namespace xx { public class ContextPT { public static string GetSession(System.Web.SessionState.HttpSessionState inSession) { StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(1000); string nameType; string value; foreach (string s in inSession.Keys) { nameType = s + " " + inSession[s].GetType().ToString(); value = inSession[s].ToString(); sb.AppendLine(nameType + ": " + value); // dataRow(new string[] {nameType, value}); } return sb.ToString(); } } } somewhere else this.lContext.Text = ContextPT.GetSession(Session); I'd like to call it like this "ContextPT.GetSession()" and have GetSession know how to find the Session object.  I know this does not seem like a big deal in this case, but I have reasons.

which library or class should be included while using "Session"

hi guys,

i want to use session to store some information for a form(ascx and ascx.cs file)

im using asp.net, c#, and visual studio 2005 , i included  "using System.Web.SessionState;" but session is not a key word in visual studio intellisense. and also, i researched a little and found that many people are using

"using System.Web.SessionState.HttpSessionState;"  and the HttpSessionState is not in the intellisense as well...

so which other classes or libraries should i using in order to use session?

MS SQL Server: Disconnect Users From Database - Kill User Session

If you ever wanted to restore your database from a SQL backup file (.bak), but there are still users connected to your database, the backup operation will fail causing the error: Exclusive access could not be obtained because the database is in use.

Class Diagrams

Class diagrams show the static structure of the systems. Classes define the properties of the objects which belong to them. These include:

Attributes - (second container) the data properties of the classes including type, default value and constraints.

Creating a Simple Class in C#

The second article in the C# Object-Oriented Programming tutorial describes how classes are created in C# and how behaviour, in the form of publicly visible and private, hidden methods can be added. This demonstrates some of the uses of encapsulation

Static Class for Beginners

In general, the members of a class can be accessed by instance of that class when they are in public, but there comes a situation to access or call members of a class without an instance and this can be achieved by declaring them as static

abstract away the source of the connection string using a class with a static property.

ASP.NET provides a configuration system we can use to keep our applications flexible at runtime. In this article we will examine some tips and best practices for using the configuration system for the best results.

The element of a web.config file is a place to store connection strings, server names, file paths, and other miscellaneous settings needed by an application to perform work. The items inside appSettings are items that need to be configurable depending upon the environment, for instance, any database connection strings will change as you move your application from a testing and staging server into production.

Let's abstract away the source of the connection string using a class with a static property.

MessageQueue Class

This sample demonstrates two way communications using message queuing between a device application and a desktop application. One application sends book order messages to a message queue and another application receives these book orders from the message queue and responds to the device queue that the orders have been processed.

How to change the default page base class?

I've tried setting the <pages pageBaseType="DynamicWebPage" /> value in web.config, but when I response.write out the page type, I'm still getting Microsoft.WebPages.WebPage.

I'm simply trying to sub-class WebPage and add some additional functionality such as a dynamic PageData dictionary similar to Phil Haack's dynamic ViewData dictionary.

SQL Server Session state problem.

Hi to all,

I have some things that I want to know. I am right now using a free asp.net webhosting ("somee.com"). The problem is that when I am visiting a page, there's a tendency that values stored in my session variables are lost. Therefore, it causes an error when the requested page is loaded.

1. I am thinking of using sessionState mode="SqlServer". Will it solve my problem?

Actualy Im working on it but Im having problems when connecting to the sql database.

2.  Is that a problem in the webhost?

3. Do free webhosting sites provide allow session state in the sql server?. Because ive tried it locally into my computer and error say's i should intall the ASP.NET Session State SQL Server version 2.0 or above.

Session and Application Variables

I have a web application in which i need to logout the user if he clicks the logout button or even if he closes his browser window. On Logout button click, i am doing session.Abandon(), but how to go about his browser window close.

Can anybody help with a code sample.

Is there any way to find out the reason for session expiry?

Datatable in session

I am creating a simple shopping cart using a datatable that is passed into a session object.  I have a small mini cart that displays the total number of items in the cart as well as the running total - this is displayed in a web control.  When the web control starts up I run a try/catch to see if the session object exists, if it doesn't I create the datatable for the cart and store it in the session.  I then have a datalist control that contains all the information for my products including an "add to cart" button.  When the page loads everything looks fine.  If I click on an "add to cart" button nothing happens to the session information.  If I click on it again, the session information updates - displaying only one item is in the cart and then counts up correctly there after.  Additionally, after adding an item, if I select a different item in the list, the same issue occurs.  I am not sure why this is happeing, if anyone can give me an idea I would appreciate it.
