Attach Workflow to Task List, don't get option to manually start workflow via dropdown on task item

I am running WSS 3.0 with other workflows which are functioning correctly.  I created a new workflow in Visual Studio 2008 and was able to successfully run it in my dev environment.  I attached the workflow to a task list in my dev environment and was able to manually start the workflow by using the drop down workflow option and using the menus to manually start it.  I installed this workflow in our production environment and attached it to the task list (which had a SPD workflow attached to it which stopped working about a month ago).  I made sure that the option to manually start the workflow was checked.  When I tried to manually start the workflow, (hover mouse over title, drop down) there isn’t a workflow option.  The workflow also will not start automatically when a task is changed.

I attached this same workflow to a different task list in production and get the option to start it.

I have tried creating a small workflow in SPD 2007 and attaching it to the task list.  It shows that it is attached, when I look at the workflows that are attached to the task list, but I still don’t get the option to manually start it.

I have checked my security and I have fu

Copying approval from Workflow task to List Item.

I have a system for entering info into sharepoint.  When the info is first entered, the list info is sent to the manager for approval using the workflow approval process.  This work, the email goes through, and then is approved on the workflow, but we have the require content approval checked, and this approval stays on pending.  I am trying to do a look up on the task list, and then approve or reject based on that.  It is not working.  The If statement always is ok, and then it is approved, even if i set reject.  Can anyone help me with this?

For the workflow lookup, the Field Data to Retrieve is

DataSource is the Tasks list for the workflow

Field from source is Approval Status

The Find the list Item is

Field is Workflow Item ID

Value is Current Item:ID

I am using this info to try to pull the approval status of the workflow and then based on

that set the approval of the list item.

Access Denied error on custom workflow task list item

We have created a two level custom approval workflow on (an InfoPath) form library using SharePoint Designer (SPD) with first and second approver. The workflow works fine as long as the approver is in the Site Collection Administrators group. The approvers who are not in the admin group can get to the custom Task form for approve/reject, but they can only view the form. When they click on the “Edit Item” button of the task list item, they receive “Access Denied” error. We have given these approvers “Approve”, “Contribute” permissions on the Form library and even Full Control on the task form list (all items). Note: The users use their domain account and the error they are getting is: Access Denied, You are currently signed as DomainName\LoginName, Sign in as a different user.

We have read through several forums and have found people having the same issue. We tried all of the suggestions described in the following links - but no success so far.

SharePoint Designer Workflows, Tasks, and the Annoying “Access Denied” Error

Assigning users when creating a list item in a workflow

I'm using a workflow to assign tasks to users.  When I try to assign the task to a group (set in the workflow designer), the workflow gives me an error.  When I change the assign to property to a single user, the workflow works perfectly.  How do I get the workflow to assign the task to the group?  Or if that's not possible, can I get it to assign it to more than one user?

Updating a List item field value in a SPD Workflow is setting Date fields to null

Hello everybody,I faced a very weird behavior while creating a workflow in SPD against a Document Library. Here is the case:1- Create a document library in sharepoint site.2- Add a custom column of type DATE.3- Upload any document to the library4- Edit the item metadata and set the custom date field to any date you want.5- Now using sharepoint designer, create a very simple Workflow with only one action that updates the current item "Title" field to any value. (Note: In my case I set the workflow to start manually and not automatically)6- Save the workflow and then start it on the uploaded item.7- Now check the value of the date column after the workflow is finished.8- You will see that the Date field is Empty... (very weird)Notes:   1-This behavior will not appear on a standard list. it is only appearing in a Document library.  2- I am using WSS 3.0 SP2 + MOSS 2007 SP2. Also SharePoint designer 2007 SP2Did anyone face this situation and does it have a fix, or am I doing something wrong here... Please help.Regards,Maheed

Help with Workflow Task List Permissions

Here's the scenario:  I have a workflow that is assigned (in parallel) to a series of people.  I've limited each person's permissions within the Workflor Task list to strictly edit by creating a custom permissions level.  So now workflow participants are able to Approve the workflow task, but cannot delete the item.  However, now, I wish to limit the tasks a user can approve to only the items that are assigned to them.    I assumed that the (Workflow Task List > List Settings > Advanced Settings >  Item Level Permissions > Edit access: Specify which items users can edit) set to 'Only their own' would do the trick, but that setting doesn't seem to impose any limitation on which task item a user can edit.    Oddly enough, when I set the (Read access:  Specify which items users can read) to 'Only their own' I loose access to every single item in the task list; even the ones that are assigned to me.  What gives?  I thought maybe SharePoint's interpretation of 'their own' possession was linked to who created the item instead of who it's assigned to, but these 2 behaviors don't seem to support that theory at all.    Is this a bug in SharePoint because I'm stumped.   Thanks! -Tracy

How to stop the mail trigger while editing a task list item in sharepoint 2007

I have a requirement to stop the mail trigger while editing a task list item in SharePoint 2007. When I am creating a task the mail is sending to the “Assigned to” Properly. But when I am editing the same task item again a mail is sent to the Assigned to user which I want to stop. Is there any out of box feature / settings to stop this mail trigger while editing. Early response is much appreciated.Deeptyranjan

Anyone any ideas as to how I can configure SharePoint to create a discussion item using the title of a list item. e.g. user creates list item on a custom list - SP automatically creates a Discussion thread for this list item in the discussions list. Cannot access Workflow from List Item menu: "Value does not fall within the expected range."

We are using Sharepoint 2007 sp2.

I am using Sharepoint Designer 2007 to create workflow for some List, suddenly I cannot acess some list items' workflow, and was informed  "Value does not fall within the expected range." , but other items are all ok.

I don't know whether this is concerned with the service pack 2, I installed sp2 yesterday.

Any help would be great...

Approval Workflow : Getting the name (or unique ID) of the item being approved in the infopath Task

I need to display the name/title of the item being approved in the infopath task form that is viewed by the approvers. How can I achieve this? The data fields in the Primary data connection seem to correspond to task item and not the item being approved itself.

Thanks in advance!

Workflow does not run when list item updated with MS Access

I have created a workflow in SharePoint Designer 2007 that copies the list item from one list to another archive list. The workflow is copies the list item when a field is updated to archive. This works fine when updating the list item within SharePoint.

the list is also linked to a Microsoft Access database, the workflow does not even start when updating the field within Access. Can anyone tell me why this is and how I can get the workflow to start when updating the list item with MS Access?

Create workflow to create list item in calendar list of a DIFFERENT site collection

I work for a school district.  Each school has a SharePoint calendar.  We set up each school as its own site collection.  I would like to create a workflow that would send their calendar events to a district calendar, which is also its own site collection.

Example,  School A enters creates a new item on their personal school calendar.  They click YES in the column called SendToDistrictCalendar.  The workflow would be triggered to create this same item in the district calendar (which is in a different site collection) when SendToDistrictCalendar is checked YES.

We're using Windows Server 2003 with Windows SharePoint Services 3.0

I am a mid-level SharePoint user.  I would appreciate ANY and ALL help to make this work!!

task item not able to update custom list item

I have a site with NT authenticated users with READ permission only.

  • I have custom list 1 with disinherited permissions where users can add items. A column in this list captures the name of the persons Manager (person or Group). e.g item created by Person X
  • WorkFlow runs and copies the item from custom list 1 to custom list 2
  • Custom List 2 with disinherited permissions. The item continues to have Person X in the 'created by' column
  • WorkFlow runs on Custom List 2 assigning only contribute permission on Custom List 2 to the Manager entered in the item. Person X has no access to the item in Custom List 2
  • The WorkFlow has  a Collect Data From User task to be completed by the Manager. The WF runs and creates the Task in the task list. I've noticed that this item in the task list is created by Person X!
  • The Manager completes the Task successfully. Then Custom List 2 is supposed to get updated with the values the manager set in the Task.
  • The Manager has contribute permission on the item in Custom List 2, so they should be able to update the item, but the WF fails with either Access Denied, or unable to find item or some such.
