need examples of how to use: ToString method, and Copy methods

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 19, 2010    Points: 0   Category :.NET Framework

Hi.  I'm new to Visual Studio 2008 and this is my first time using the forum.  Could someone give me examples of how to use the ToString(), Copy()?  I know how to use the "ToLower() which converts the current string to lower case.  I would code:

Dim str1 As String = "Hello World!"
Dim str2 As String = str1.ToLower()

Result: str2 contains "hello world!"

I only need to have examples of how I would code the two methods mentioned above.  Thanks you inadvance

MSAJAX BUG: overrides of toString() and other methods present in Object do not propagate to derived

MSAJAX: overrides of toString() and other Object methods do not propagate to derived classes
In a class hierarchy built with MSAjax we seem to be unable to propagate an override of toString and other methods found in Object down to derived classes.
My idea is to have a parent class which overrides toString() and then have derived classes that would inherit the toString implementation from the parent. Here's a repro:

Slow Copy Method

So I wanted to make a program where I need to Copy files. I want to trace the progress of the copy process and because in WPF + c# this is not supported I thougt I would make my own Copy Method (Signature Copy(src, dest, progressBar)) the progressbar is so it can directly update the progress of the copy process.

Here follows a piece of the code from the threaded method:

long size = new System.IO.FileInfo(source).Length;

                long currentSize = 0;

                reader = System.IO.File.OpenRead(source);

                writer = new System.IO.FileStream(destination, System.IO.FileMode.OpenOrCreate);

                int readByte;

                while ((readByte = reader.ReadByte()) > -1)

Parsing C# Classes, Methods, and Method Properties Using Regex's

I have a web project that allows multiple developers to contribute to a .cs file in the App_Code folder. I need to dynamically report on which classes exist in the file, which methods are in those classes, which properties are expected by those methods, and what the method returns. I can't seem to get my curly brace matching to work using regex's.

I went down the road of trying to dynamically build the code and then use reflection to enumerate the objects, but I don't think that's going to work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Error : Cannot convert method group 'ToString' to non-delegate type 'int'.

Ive gotten this error to my underlined line(bold): Cannot convert method group 'ToString' to non-delegate type 'int'.
How do i Solve it??

        Label2.Visible = true;
        SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection("Data Source= EN12-2-20-PC02\\SQLEXPRESS;" + "Initial Catalog=ssms;Integrated Security=SSPI");

        DataSet ds = null;
        ds = new DataSet();
        int timestamp = 0;
        timestamp = GridView1.SelectedDataKey.Value.ToString;

        SqlDataAdapter da = null;
        string mySQL = null;
        mySQL = "SELECT timestamp from loginHistory where username = '" + lblShowUser.Text + "'";
        da = new SqlDataAdapter(mySQL, conn);
        da.Fill(ds, "loginHistory");
        DataSet dsSel = new DataSet();

        GridView1.DataSource = dsSel;

My custom class, Why method table only contain 4 methods?

using System;
using System.Text;

I always get 4 methods information in method table.

The Decorator Pattern & Extension Methods

The decorator pattern provides a formal way to add new functionality to an existing type, without sub-classing. First question: What is wrong with classical inheritance? In and of itself, nothing is wrong with the good old Is-A relationship. It is very common to derive a new class from an existing base class in order to override a few virtual members, and add a pinch of new functionality.

Thinking about new C# method prototypes: object as dictionary

I recently had to write a small Flickr API. I know many .Net API for Flickr already exist but I needed one for a Silverlight application. Whatever, it's only about building some querystrings so I did it by myself. It's been an opportunity to think again about a classical question: how to pass parameters to a method ?

Imagine you have a generic method to call some Flickr functions.

Using jQuery to directly call ASP.NET AJAX page methods

Here I am looking to explain how to call page methods using jQuery. Using jQuery to directly call ASP.NET AJAX page methods

The Decorator Pattern & Extension Methods

Numerous design patterns exist in the software world today, and ultimately nothing is preventing you from making your own (if people buy into it or not is another question). Furthermore, there is no 'master list' of patterns that all developers agree upon. While this is true, if you pick up any book on the subject, you will find a set of very common patterns most programmers agree are very useful. Many of these patterns were first formalized in the seminal book on the subject, Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software (aka, the Gang of Four [GOF] book; not to be confused with the UK punk band of the same name).

WPF examples: the very basics of the ContentControl

At the very base, we have controls and containers, or as I found somewhere, "bits of content and behavior" and "containers of bits of content and behavior". However, there are 2 special things about the content containment.

Xml File Methods and Properties

Method and Properties of XmlTextWriter class:
The XmlWriter class is a base class that outputs an XML data structure. It has methods to sequentially write XML elements in a proper hierarchy to create an XML file or other types of output streams. The System.Xml namespace provides support for the XmlWriter. It must be imported to the ASP.NET page with the directive

<%@ Import Namespace="System.Xml" %>

The XmlTextWriter

XmlWriter is an abstract class that is implemented as an extended XMLTextWriter class. The XmlTextWriter writes a sequence of XML nodes one element at a time. Output can be written to an XML file, although other streams of output data can be produced. It can create a new file or overwrite an existing file. Its non-cached writing techniques provides very fast generation of an output stream.

Visual Web Developer 2010 Express "Copy Web Site" using different login

I created a site and am trying to grant another pesron access to upload changes to it without giving them my super-user login.

I made a login for her but I can't test whether it works or not because no matter how much I "disconnect" in the Copy Web Site page of VWD 2010, reconnecting to the same site always logs in as my superuser account without prompting me for a login again.

How do I test is the account it set up correctly before having her try to upload to it?    I want to force the login to remote site dialog to pop up again to test her account.

Any ideas?

Page Methods and Yahoo UI

Hello people,
I'm constructing an application with Page Methods and YAHOO UI.
I'm Not using Update Panels because Page Methods are faster than Update Panel.

You can post your experiences with this feature of ASP.NET Extensions and vantages of using this type of architecture.

Thanks a lot.
