Report Access over HTTP and HTTPS

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 19, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

We have a strange issue with our sharepoint server in that when accessing the sharepoint site through http reports work, when accessing through https, reports dont work.  I am not a sharepoint expert by any means but have been tasked with fixing the problem.  here is what  I have observed:

Scenario 1

When accessing sharepoint via http://FQDN_of_Site I am taken to the login page to login.  Once authenticated, the client portal (non-secure, http) is displayed and I have the option to run several reports.  Clicking the report link displays the report as expected.

Scenario 2

When accessing sharepoint via https://FQDN_of_Site I an taken to the login page to login.  Once authenticated, the client portal (secure, https) is dispalyed and I have the option to run several reports.  Clicking the report link results in the following error:

The item 'https://FQDN_of_Site/Reports/Report_Name.rdl' cannot be found. (rsItemNotFound)

The server does have a vaild SSL cert.

There are three serveres being used.  One server for SQL, One Server for Sharepoint, One Server for Reports

As a recap:

http://FQDN_of_Site/Client_Name/ReportList.aspx works
https://FQDN_of_Site/Client_Name/ReportList.aspx does not work

A connection could not be made to the report server http://localhost/ReportServer.

  • I created a Report using Business Intelligence Studio. Its working working well, i can able to view records. But when i try to deploy the report an error occurs specifying that "A connection could not be made to the report server http://localhost/ReportServer. (Microsoft Report Designer)".
  • I open the IIS 7 and find out virtual directories "Reports" and "ReportServer" are available.
  • I check on the browser and type "http://localhost/reports".  I find the browser direct to this url: http://localhost/reports/Pages/Folder.aspx and find error specifying the following one:

  • when i type http://localhost/reportmanager, i found the error:

Access to report file denied. Another program may be using it.

Migrated from Windows 2000 ASP.NET 1.1 to Windows 2003, ASP.NET 2.0 and had this error. All the forums/MSDN/Blogs says to give Read/Write Access to C:\Windows\Temp folder. Why should we give Full Access to some folder in Production server?? In windows 2000, ASP.NET 2.0 development machine, no files are created when we run crystal reports from aspx pages. Then why in Windows 2003 servers, we need to give rights to temp folder?? It is a simple code

And the code is not storing anything on the disk. Then why should it store the GUID.rpt file in Temp file in Windows 2003 server?? Any alternative is there not to store anything on the disk when Crystal Reports are opened in aspx page??

How to switch between HTTP and HTTPS in ASP.NET MVC2

ASP.NET MVC2 has the new RequireHttpsAttribute that you can use to decorate any action to force any non-secure request to come through HTTPS (SSL).  It can be used as simply as this:

        public ActionResult LogOn()

Now any request to the LogOn action that is not over HTTPS will automatically be redirected back to itself over HTTPS.  This is very useful and easy to implement.

Unfortunately though, once the scheme is changed to HTTPS, all following requests will also be under HTTPS, which is not necessarily what you want.  In most cases you do not need all requests to your site to be secure but only certain ones such as the logon page or pages that accept credit card information.

To handle this you can override the Controller.OnAuthorization method.  From within this method, you can check to see if the RequireHttps attribute is set on the Controller Action by searching the Attributes collection of the ActionDescriptor object. If the RequireHttpsAttribute is not set AND the request is under SSL, then return a redirect result to the HTTP (no

workflows on https: versus http:

I have a production site that uses https:.  I noticed that if I access the site with http instead, the workflows don't start.  Can anyone explain that to me please?

why does WSDL file have httpS? i just need http

I built my c# web service.  Tested it.  I built my android app.  Tested it.  All is well.  I tried to get these things to talk to each other...FAIL.  I found these lines in my wsdl. <wsdl:service name="Service1"> - <wsdl:port name="Service1Soap" binding="tns:Service1Soap"> <soap:address location="" /> </wsdl:port> - <wsdl:port name="Service1Soap12" binding="tns:Service1Soap12"> <soap12:address location="" /> </wsdl:port> </wsdl:service> What decided that the path should be https?  I never told it that.  It is overriding IIS which says everything should be http.  Someone please help me before I go ballistic.  Oh and for others developing on android 2.2, it won't take unsigned certs, so you either have to configure a local certificate authority or go http.

User permissions in SharePoint 2010 act differently in http and https

I installed SharePoint 2010, created a site (complete with a document library), and assigned user permissions.  Additionally, I set up certificate authentication for all users.  Two problems occur: 1. As the system administrator, when I access the https site, I no longer have permissions to add/edit users 2. When user's, who have permissions to edit/add a document/folder click on "Add document" or the folder icon to add a new folder, they get an error. Any help is much appreciated.

Displaying Image stored in rtf format in access database displaying it on crystal report

Hello, I'm working on a C# project combined with "Crystal Reports 10". When a user inserts something in a "TextField" in my C#-Program, it's saved  as RTF-code (Bolt,Pictures,Underlined,....) to a database.. So if they  reopen it in my "C#"-program they're able to see what they've entered  including their pictures .... But when I created a "Crystal Report"-file and combined it with the same  database used in my "C#"-program, it only show the formatted text and not  the pictures or images... Is there a way to show the "Picture" or "Image" they've inserted in RTF-code  ??? When I copy the code from the database in a simple Text-File and rename  it too "Test.rtf", it wil open correctly in word (with picture and  everything else)... So I hope there is a way to get the picture, Cz it's rather important  they've got a picture of the product they wanna print ...

SQL 2008 External access returns wrong address for Report Manager

Hello, I have problems with the external access for report server. My report server is running in a local server on port 80, which can be accessed through http://servername/reports I have set up external access to the report server through http://servername.domain.com:8081/reports , so I set up a redirection from public port 8081 to port 80 on the local server. When I write the address http://servername.domain.com:8081/reports in a browser, I get asked for user authentication(Windows domain user), which is accepted, but after that I get an error because the URL automatically changes to http://servername.domain.com/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx (without the port 8081) If I write http://servername.domain.com:8081/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx , it works. I can see the report manager home page and browse through my reports. But there are some links in the page that are built improperly, since they still point to the wrong URL (without port 8081). These are e.g. the Help link, the Report Builder link, the Details view link.  So I think there is something wrong with the response the report server sends, when I write ".../Reports" and returns ".../Reports/Pages/Folders.aspx" I haven't found any configuration file or property where this response is specified, neither where the report
