I am aware of a version dependency on the stsadm -o backup/restore operation.
But will the same dependency exist for a content DB backup restore..
i.e. for example will we able to restore a content DB backup taken from a server with version say 18.104.22.16877 to a server with say 22.214.171.12466 assuming that the versions of SQL is the same in both cases.
Will the version difference in SQL create issues
Thanks in advance
I am trying to use Sharepoint Designer's backup and restore functionality to move a site from one server to another.ÃÂ The backup seems to complete successfully, but when I go to restore theÃÂ site: It gives an error pls restore a backup in empty site. can any body tell me what will be the steps of restore site and sub-sites.
I'm just trying to move a site collection to a different server (to a virtual machine). I used the backup and restore feature in central administration but I'm not able to view the site on the new server. Is there some step I am missing during this migration?
We have a sharepoint and using sql 2008r2 server. We found that everyday it backup to a folder spbrXXXX where XXXX is a serial #. It also has a xml document that track its backup. In each of these folders is a butch of bak file. When
I check the sharepoint admin site, it said it is backing up everyday to this folder. How can i remove those folders that are more than 2 weeks? I need to have a way to control this folder from continuously growing. Our sharepoint is only
a few weeks old and the folder is 36Gig big already.
I am using stsadm to run daily backup of the server, but would like to run hourly database backup, not sure if it works to restore database and log for sharepoint service 3.0, the db is on sql 2005 embedded edition. does any one know or has any suggestions
to backup WSS3.0 hourly?
I tried the backup restore feature in the admin site, didn't get it work when last time the server crashes, so right now only use stsadm backup / restore.
I had a simple site in a SharePoint 2010 server, and I backed it up. That server is not available anymore, and all I have available is a SharePoint 2010 Foundation server. Can I restore on that server? I got an error message saying that the versions of "SharePoint
Foundation" on the two servers are different. Note that only one of the servers (the destination server) was running SharePoint Foundation, the other one had full SharePoint 2010.
I don't think I am using any features that are not part of SharePoint Foundation... it's an extremely simple site. Just a list with custom list forms edited in SharePoint Designer.
I am using SharePoint (Version: 12.0.6318.5000). The scenario is like that;

Sharepoint 2010 farm and SQL server are two separate 2008 R2 servers. Ran full backup in the administration site and ran a differential of part of the site. Cannot restore the differential. It is looking for the full.
Here is the error message:
Object WSS_Content_PubSrv failed in event OnRestore. For more information, see the spbackup.log or sprestore.log file located in the backup directory.
SPException: The restore operation cannot locate the backup file F:\MSSQL\Backup\WSS_Content\SQL_WSS_Content_PubSrv_Full_201104111900.safe. Verify that the file exists and then run the operation again.
I tried mapped F to the F drive on the SQL server but it still fails. I have full rights and the service account has read rights to that directory on the SQL server. Share is full rights
I have a SharePoint 2007 farm which consists of a single application server and a separate SQL box.
The DB is SQL 2000. The objective is to upgrade to SQL 2008.
I have read countless articles on how to migrate the DB server from 2000/2005 to 2008. There does not seem to be a consensus on which approach is best.
One approach I do not see much written about is one I tried and successfully implemented.
What I did was simply take advantage of the built in backup feature in the central administration site. I performed a full backup of the site and copied the back up to a development
server in a different domain.
I then created a new farm in the development environment and pointed to a 2008 SQl database. The only databases in the farm after I created the farm were the config_Db and central
