Problem while configuring SharePoint Usage Reporting

Hello all.    I was given an already developed MOSS 2007 (Standard) web application, up and running, and I was requested to activate the usage reporting services. So, I did a little search and found the following article that explains just how to do what I want:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262541(office.12).aspx As I go through the article, I come across this step on the "Enable usage reporting" section:  "On the SSP home page, in the Office SharePoint Usage Reporting section, click Usage reporting." So, now I notice that I don't have a Shared Service Provider and I can't go on with the aforementioned article. Alright, I did a little search and found this article:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262649(office.12).aspx Which would guide me through creating a SSP. No problemo. I follow the steps until I reach the 19th: "In the Index Server section, in Index Server, click the server on which you configured the Search service". And yet no option is available for me, and rather displays a "there's no index server" messsage. But hold on, the same article reads: "If there is no index server listed in the Index Server section, then no server in your farm has been assigned the index server role. To assign the index server role to a server in

Using parameters to search dates in Reporting Services

Hello there, I have recently started using SQL Server Reporting services. I currently have a problem.

I am trying to achieve a search by dates in a report.

I have a table with the fields RequestDate in e.g. 22-Jan-2010 or 23-Sep-2010

I have created a report in Query Designer with two parameters in it RequestDate & RequestDate2.
The Operators are for RequestDate is: Is more than or equal to
The value is: 1-Jan-2010

And the Operator for RequestDate2 is: Is less than or equal to.
The value is 30-Dec-2010

When i go to the SQL Statement this is produced:

  MHRA.RequestDate >= @RequestDate
  AND MHRA.RequestDate <= @RequestDate2

When i go to view report i want to be able to search for dates between the dates  1 Jan 2010 and 30-Aug-2010

My query seems to pick up all or most of the results between these dates.

How can i build this query so i can get specific results. For example...in the Request Date Parameter box i would put 2-feb-2010 and in Request Date 2 i would put in 5-Jun-2010 and this would return all the results between these dates.

Looking for Client Query Analyzer (SQL Server 2008) or Equivalent Reporting Tools

I've recently upgraded from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2008.  My accounting and marketing team is skilled and has been using SQL Query Analyzer for years to run smaller queries and build small Crystal Reports.  Unfortunately Query Analyzer is now bundled into the management studio.  That's a bit too much software for this level of power users.

Is there a client-side query analyzer for SQL Server 2008?  I'd rather use a Microsoft product than a 3rd party tool, but I suppose I could do that too.  Looking for something simple that will:

1.  Show users the database tables and/or views

2.  Run queries

Perhaps query analyzer isn't the way to go and my team needs a different reporting system.  If this is the way MS is heading, could you direct me towards a product or service that allows power users to get the information they need?  They will still need to look at raw data to build Crystal Reports though.

Organizing SQL query to help construct reporting grids

I'm not sure how to phrase this question, or what I even need to be looking for, but here goes.

I have the following table:

Date (datetime) | Data (varchar) | State (varchar)

2010-05-08 12:35:29.998 | Interested in proposal | California
2010-06-08 12:35:29.998 | Interested in proposal | California
2010-06-09 12:35:29.998 | Interested in trial | Texas
2010-08-08 12:35:29.998 | Interested in demo | California

What I am trying to do is organize the data into a table to generate reports based on some small criteria (Is it a demo, trial, or proposal they are requesting?). What my goal is to end up with something like this:

State | January | February | March | April | ....
Alabama | 3 | 0 | 2 | 10 | ...
California | 10 | 2 | 0 | 9 | ....

I have a query that does some of this. It can group the data in the following format:

state | Total | Month
Alabama | 10 | 1
Alabama | 2 | 2
Alabama | 3 | 3

The problem I have, is I can't easily loop through this row-by-row and insert it into a table. I've been looking around and thinking of ways t

SharePoint Usage Reporting Quick Poll Question

I've got a very quick poll question for any DBAs out there who utilize SharePoint Usage Reporting.

Would you rather view your SP Usage Reports inside SharePoint itself, or have them emailed to you once per day/week/month in a PDF or Office formats?

Thanks for your help.

SharePoint usage reporting - missing data from ANLHit

Hi All,

On our MOSS 2007 farm, knowing about the logging tables for usage reporting which reside in the above table in the SSP database only stores a rolling 31 days worth of data, we have a SQL process that archives this data, ultimatly for reporting in SSAS. I've had a recent query from a business user that has prompted some investigation - there seems to be large chunks of data missing from ANLHist. Taking myself as an example, I know I use our SharePoint platform every working day, and there are others around me that do too, but the reporting does not reflect this - there are large gaps in the data.

My investigations have lead me to Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\Logs, where one would expect to see folder for every site collection. However on one of our two WFEs, there are several missing. It's my understanding that a timer job takes the '00.log' file(s) from this location to populate the ANLHit table.

I've done as much investigation as I am aware of and have drawn blanks, is anyone able to assist in this matter and suggest what the issue may be? I'm not sure if the missing folders are a red herring?

Thanks in advance.

MS SQL Server: Search All Tables, Columns & Rows For Data or Keyword Query

If you need to search your entire database for specific data, this query will come in handy.

Integrate Reporting Services with Silverlight and RIA Services

One of the most wanted future features in Silverlight is the possibility to create business reports using Reporting Services. In this article, I will show how to use the existing Reporting Services technology with Silverlight and RIA Services combination.

Reporting Services SQL 2005 .Net 4 compatibility?

I've been working on my first asp.net application and for the most part it's been pretty smooth.  Right now I'm having trouble getting reporting services working under SQL Server 2005.  I developed the site with Visual Studio 2010 and didn't think about any of the .Net 4.0 compatibility issues that have arisen.  I'm having no problems with the site communicating with SQL Server 2005 for the regular database stuff.  The only problem I'm having is with setting up Reporting Services.  I have the .Net 4.0 framework installed on the server, however Reporting Services is still using 2.x.  I'm not sure if this is a problem with SSRS or with IIS.  When i go to localhost/Reports it's reading my web.config for my application and throwing an error: "Parser Error Message: Unrecognized attribute 'targetFramework'."  This is referring to a line in my web.config where targetFramework is set to 4.0.

Software that I'm using:

  • Visual Studio 2010
  • SQL Server 2005 Standard
  • IIS 7.0
  • .Net 4.0

Any suggestions?
