Attach Workflow to Task List, don't get option to manually start workflow via dropdown on task item

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 26, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I am running WSS 3.0 with other workflows which are functioning correctly.  I created a new workflow in Visual Studio 2008 and was able to successfully run it in my dev environment.  I attached the workflow to a task list in my dev environment and was able to manually start the workflow by using the drop down workflow option and using the menus to manually start it.  I installed this workflow in our production environment and attached it to the task list (which had a SPD workflow attached to it which stopped working about a month ago).  I made sure that the option to manually start the workflow was checked.  When I tried to manually start the workflow, (hover mouse over title, drop down) there isn’t a workflow option.  The workflow also will not start automatically when a task is changed.

I attached this same workflow to a different task list in production and get the option to start it.

I have tried creating a small workflow in SPD 2007 and attaching it to the task list.  It shows that it is attached, when I look at the workflows that are attached to the task list, but I still don’t get the option to manually start it.

I have checked my security and I have fu

Copying approval from Workflow task to List Item.

I have a system for entering info into sharepoint.  When the info is first entered, the list info is sent to the manager for approval using the workflow approval process.  This work, the email goes through, and then is approved on the workflow, but we have the require content approval checked, and this approval stays on pending.  I am trying to do a look up on the task list, and then approve or reject based on that.  It is not working.  The If statement always is ok, and then it is approved, even if i set reject.  Can anyone help me with this?

For the workflow lookup, the Field Data to Retrieve is

DataSource is the Tasks list for the workflow

Field from source is Approval Status

The Find the list Item is

Field is Workflow Item ID

Value is Current Item:ID

I am using this info to try to pull the approval status of the workflow and then based on

that set the approval of the list item.

Access Denied error on custom workflow task list item

We have created a two level custom approval workflow on (an InfoPath) form library using SharePoint Designer (SPD) with first and second approver. The workflow works fine as long as the approver is in the Site Collection Administrators group. The approvers who are not in the admin group can get to the custom Task form for approve/reject, but they can only view the form. When they click on the “Edit Item” button of the task list item, they receive “Access Denied” error. We have given these approvers “Approve”, “Contribute” permissions on the Form library and even Full Control on the task form list (all items). Note: The users use their domain account and the error they are getting is: Access Denied, You are currently signed as DomainName\LoginName, Sign in as a different user.

We have read through several forums and have found people having the same issue. We tried all of the suggestions described in the following links - but no success so far.

SharePoint Designer Workflows, Tasks, and the Annoying “Access Denied” Error

Help with Workflow Task List Permissions

Here's the scenario:  I have a workflow that is assigned (in parallel) to a series of people.  I've limited each person's permissions within the Workflor Task list to strictly edit by creating a custom permissions level.  So now workflow participants are able to Approve the workflow task, but cannot delete the item.  However, now, I wish to limit the tasks a user can approve to only the items that are assigned to them.    I assumed that the (Workflow Task List > List Settings > Advanced Settings >  Item Level Permissions > Edit access: Specify which items users can edit) set to 'Only their own' would do the trick, but that setting doesn't seem to impose any limitation on which task item a user can edit.    Oddly enough, when I set the (Read access:  Specify which items users can read) to 'Only their own' I loose access to every single item in the task list; even the ones that are assigned to me.  What gives?  I thought maybe SharePoint's interpretation of 'their own' possession was linked to who created the item instead of who it's assigned to, but these 2 behaviors don't seem to support that theory at all.    Is this a bug in SharePoint because I'm stumped.   Thanks! -Tracy

Approval Workflow : Getting the name (or unique ID) of the item being approved in the infopath Task

I need to display the name/title of the item being approved in the infopath task form that is viewed by the approvers. How can I achieve this? The data fields in the Primary data connection seem to correspond to task item and not the item being approved itself.

Thanks in advance!

SharePoint 2010 Approval Workflow email is not showing link to Workflow Task list

I have created an out of box Approval workflow in SharePoint 2010. I am receiving email with below information

Task assigned by Chinna Malipedu on 10/7/2010.

Due by 1/1/0001

Approval started by Chinna Malipedu on 10/7/2010 11:43 AM
Comment: Approve

To complete this task:
1. Review SharePoint2010.
2. Perform the specific activities required for this task.
3. Use the Open this task button to mark the task as completed. (If you cannot update this task, you might not have access to it.)

But I need to go to Workflow Task List by clicking 3 item "Use the Open this Task" , this is not a link here

or I want like "Edit this task to mark the task as completed."  Edit this task should link to Task List

How to do this? do i missing any configuration?

I have successfully done the same  in MOSS 2007.                                                               Is there  any extra&n

Display Originating List Data into Workflow Task

I have two needs that my users have requested. I am limited to SharePoint designer due to environment restrictions.

  1. Is it possible to display information from the original list in the workflow task that was created? This is so the users don't have to click back into the original list to see the details of what they are approving.
  2. Is it possible to put the Approve / Reject buttons directly in-line with the tasks? This is so the user can approve the item without ever leaving the list of tasks they have been assigned?
Thanks in advance for your assistance!

create task item with sharepoint designer workflow

I have an InfoPath form and a SharePoint forms library with a workflow. When I submit an InfoPath form to the forms library a workflow is triggered. Within this workflow I want to create an item in the task list. This is possible with the action in sharepoint designer wf "assign a to do item". But within this action the name of the task item is hardcoded.

Now I want to change the name of the task item. The name should be one field of my InfoPath form. I also want to set the due date of the task item.

Any ideas?

Can I elect which list appears when a user clicks "complete task" in a sharepoint workflow?

I have a "Collect data from user" task which naturally shows the Workflow Tasks list when the user clicks "Complete Task" and the task form closes.  This is a little confusing for the user who thinks they are working on items in the base list.  Is there a way I can choose which list is shown after the user clicks "Complete Task" (or any action which closes a workflow task)?

I am using SharePoint 2007 Standard Edition and SPD 2007

Many thanks for your help,

Workflow pulling infomation from task list

I have a custom workflow that task a user to approve a item, the workflow asigns the task and them put that information that was provided in a field on a form...  I then have the work flow look at that field and see if it is equal to approve, if so it assigns another task to another user for an additonal approval... I am not able to get the information from the second task to populate the form... Everything is the same... does not populate from the task list

associate sharepoint designer workflow to new Task List

Is there any way to change Task list in sharepoint designer workflow?

Actually my previous Task List is too messy, and I want to create new Task List and associate new workflow to it?

How I can do that?

Workflow Task List

Am very new to Sharepoint 2010. Not used workflows before. I have created a custom list as a basic helpdesk, I have used an OOB workflow that sends an email to the assignee and creates a task list.

On the task list that the assignee brings up I want to add a column for them to add commetns realating to the resolution of the issue, although it lets me add a column, that coumn will not appear when the itemis clicked for editing, why is that, how can i make sure I get the editable column I need?.

Workflow "Failed on Start (retrying)" when new item created by BizTalk SharePoint Adapter

We've been using the BizTalk SharePoint Adapter to load various different contents into a MOSS 2007 Document Library. The library has a Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007 workflow (sequential workflow created in Designer) which starts automatically when a new item is added to the Document Library. Or, at least, it eventually starts automatically.

For some unknown reason--and this is what we're hoping some of you may have some ideas on--the workflow fails to start on the first try, producing the "Failed to Start (retrying)" message. When the timer job comes back the second time, the workflow starts successfully, but this causes us to loose five minutes of potential work time (not to mention making us look bad to the VPs and CTO because they see the failure message).

In checking the log, I find the following pair of error messages each time the "Failed to Start (retrying)" status occurs:

08/27/2007 13:49:43.24  w3wp.exe (0x0CA0)                        0x1438 Windows SharePoint Services    Workflow Infrastructure        72fs Unexpected RunWorkflow: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException: <Error><CompilerError Line="1" Column="1" Text="The root activity type is invalid.&q

How to make the Workflow Status remain "In Progress" when a task is "Rejected"

Hi Sir/Mam,

I have a work flow running on a list, when a task is Rejected at a stage then the Workflow status is set to "Completed". Instead of this I want the Status to remain as "In Progress", so that in future after the modification of the document the Approver may Approve it and then take it to the next stages. This is not possible if the Workflow is set to "Completed".

Can you please suggest an easy way to do this

Thanks in Advance
