how to set up different validation summary for different type of validators

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 19, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Hi guys,

what i want to do is to  set up different validation summary for different type of validators. for example, for required field validators, if user leaves some required field blank, it shows that "You have to fill in mandantory information, indicated with a star"

and if some format is wrong, it shows that "format is invalid"

right now, i set all requied field validators' text to be a star, and leave error message to be blank. so that the validation summart will only display the header message. that is what i need. what i dont know is how to separate regular expression into another summary.

i think the validation group property requires multiple buttons. however, i only want one submit button, and this is where i got stuck.

any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance.

SSIS User Defined Data Type (Alias Data Types) and OLE DB Command validation

Hello everyone, I've been having an issue with trying to run my SSIS package on a server, and it seems to be failing on the OLE DB Command step.  What we have in our SQL 2005 DB, is a User-Defined Data Type (base type char(7)) and the OLE DB Command is supposed to call a proc that passes in a value of this data type. ie:  CREATE PROCEDURE myProcedure ( @passedInFromSSIS MY_DATATYPE ) AS .... In my SSIS package, I have the type defined as DT_STR with a length of 7.  Now, when I run the package locally (via Visual Studio), the process runs with success.  However, once the package is deployed on a server and run from an application (note: it is run under a different user), the process fails on a validation step with a "Invalid Parameter Number" error. Now, if I change the input parameter in my proc to the base type of the user-defined data type, the process works again. Has anybody run into a similar issue or know what may be causing this issue?  I first suspected perhaps I needed to grant permissions on the user-defined data type (since I was able to run it under my security context, but not under the application's), however noticed that there isn't security tied to the types.  Any other thoughts?  Please let me know if you need further explanation.  Thanks!

Validation summary not showing in master page

Hi, I am using User controls in my web page. I have validation controls in my user control and the validation summary control is placed in the master page. Problem is I am not getting the errors displayed when I am running my application. Any help is appreciated.   Thanks.

Adding New Error Message to Validation Summary Control

 In the code behind based on a condition i want to add a error message to the Validation Control.

 I tried the below.

 'Call function to add error message.
protected void AddErrorToValidationSummary(string errorMessage)
 CustomValidator custVal = new CustomValidator();
 custVal.IsValid = false;
 custVal.ErrorMessage = errorMessage;
 custVal.EnableClientScript = false;
 custVal.Display = ValidatorDisplay.None;

Validation Summary with regular Expression validator

I have a page that im using Validation Summary on. I have 5 out of 8 fields that im validating. All 5 have required validators and 1 of the 5 also has regularexpressionvalidator with it.

When the page load and i click the submit, all the fields show my red * next to them and the individual messages down in the summary. Thats find, but im having issues with checking the field with the regex validation when you submit the form again. At the moment, i had added a if condition on the button event and it is preventing the form from submitting and the field is showing the red * next to it, but my message from the regex validator does not display in the summary. Actually the summary doesnt even show up. The regex validator works when you tab out of the field by placing the red *, but the actual error message doesnt display in the summary, so you wouldnt know why there is an issue.

I have the following as a test, def isnt correct, but was trying to show the summary with the value from my regex validator:

        protected void btnInfo_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
            if (!Page.IsValid)
                vsSumm.ShowSummary = true;

1 page, 2 validationgroups and 2 validation summary issues

Hi all,

I have one page, on which I have a part with controls and one validationgroup, with the respective validation summary.

I have another part on the same page with another validation group, and another validation summary.

The thing is that, when I press btnGo or btnGo2, both validationsummaries trigger, and both show all validation messages. For other words, it seems that the validationgroups are not working.

My html:

<!--Group 1-->
<tr style="padding-top:3px;">
    <td class="mgmCell">
    <td style="padding-left:5px;">
        <asp:TextBox ID="txtName" runat="server" ValidationGroup="Group1"/>
        <asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="rfvName" runat="server" ErrorMessage="Name" Text="*" ValidationGroup="Group1" ControlToValidate="txtName" />
    <td colspan="2">
        <asp:Button ID="btnGo" runat="server" Text="Go" ValidationGroup="Group1" OnClick="ClickEvent" />
        <asp:ValidationSummary ID="vs1" runat="server" ShowSummary="fal

Localizing implicit type validation messages

I'm having trouble with the implicit type validation for model properties. The validation/error messages (for numeric fields explicitly) are printed in English (I want them to be printed in Swedish). Does anyone know how to override those messages? Or can I turn of implicit type validation?

The error message I'd like to translate/localize is "The field {0} must be a number."

GridView: Hide validators and show validator summary

Hi, I want to have TextBox validators like in this case: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms972948.gridview_fig45l(l=en-us).gif

I transfer the code to my necessities but the error message, displayed at the textbox, is the same as in the summary.

In the msdn - example there is only a asterisk at the respective textbox where the validation fails and the full error message is displayed in the summary.

How can I handle this? It seems to me that the validation summary only repeat the single error messages of the validators. When I set the single validators vissibility to "hidden"(which I would also use, because I thought they are still displayed in the validation summary -_- ), they are not displayed in the summary too.

Validation on data type

I am trying to realize valition on datatype. I have used DataAnnotations, but for data type it's not showing customized message

 for example when I' am trying enter string data into int typed field. How I can customize messages in this case?

Declaration of validation.

public partial class GPS_Mark { }

public class MarkValidation {
 [DataType(DataType.Currency, ErrorMessage = "This field should be numeric")]
 public int MarkE{ get; set; }

It's my view

<div class="editor-label">
 <div class="editor-field">
   @Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.MarkE)

When user would enter into this field somethihg like: adsf

He would see: "The field MarkE must be a number", not my "This field should be numeric". The mean the same but I need show costumized

[Range(-15, 15, ErrorMessage = "Enter digit")]

also not helped

Strange behavior when validation type of rule is applied in Infopath

I've designed InfoPath 2010 form which is browser enabled and 2007 compatible.

In one numeric text box, a Validation rule is written such that if user enters anything outside 0-100 range, it'll display an error message.

1. User opens the form and starts filling the controls.

2. User enters a number in this numeric text box and comes out of the textbox.

3. When focus is lost, validation rule gets triggered.

4. Infopath screen flickers (kind of), reposition itself to the original state.

Question 1: Why does it happen like this? This behavior does not happen in case of "Formatting" type of rule, but happens in "Validation" type of rule.

Question 2: Is validation rule a server-side? What about Formatting rule?

Question 3: This is not related to validation rule. When a textbox value is made right-aligned, we do not see the cursor inside textbox while entering the value. Is it the normal behavior? Is there any way to get rid of this?

TreeSelector : playing with generics and type inference

create a generic way to define a selection starting from a tree of objects, the most simpler way as possible.

Let's start with the beginning...
Here is a very simple little interface defining a node of the tree, basically, a value and the references to the child nodes.

UnTyped DataSets and Strongly Type DataSets

Server side validation of Fileupload control not working

I've tried this method in my code behind to try and validate that the Fileupload control has a file or not. I get the error message the the event "Server Validate" cannot be found. Can anyone tell why? Thanks.

Public Sub CustomValidator1_ServerValidate(ByVal source As Object, ByVal args As System.Web.UI.WebControls.ServerValidateEventArgs) Handles CustomValidator1.ServerValidate

' Get file name
