Error linking MS Access 2010 to SQL Express 2008R2

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 19, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I've posted this question in a MS Access forum but nobody was able to figure out what the issue is.

I am getting the following error when I try to link MS Access 2010 to a SQL Server Express 2008R2 table:
'idx_table name' is not a valid name. make sure it does not include invalid characters or punctuation and that is not too long.

- the table name is: italpasta-etp.etp.timehistory
- the connection: 64bit ODBC (test successful)
- I get the same error if I try to import the table
- both MS Access and SQL Server Express are new, 64bit installations (I don't know if that matters)

I tried changing the SQL table name to a single word (like "TEST") but it didn't make any difference.

Anyone came across a similar issue?
Any suggestion is appreciated.
Thank you.

Search Server Express 2010 - Access Denied when attempting to manage Search Service Application or P

I first noticed this error with the Search Service Application when I was no longer able to use the search portal, but have since noticed the issue with the PowerPoint Service Application.  When I navigate in Central Administration to either the "Farm Search Administration" or the "Manage service applications" pages and attempt to manage the "Search Service Application", I get this error: Error: Access Denied  Current User You are currently signed in as:  WHEELERS\MyUserName   Sign in as a different user    I have tried removing the service application and re-adding it, changing the application pool to running under an existing application pool as the farm administrator, as another application pool with the same identity as the primary web application, and as another application pool running under the SP-SearchService identity. The big recent change with SharePoint, aside from fixing the previous issue where I was incorrectly using CNAMEs with Kerberos, was to switch the main web application to claims authentication. That site correctly works with claims based authentication and Kerberos.

Access Denied/The workflow could not copy the item workflow error after Sharepoint 2010 upgrade

We have a sharepoint designer workflow that copies a document from one library to another on the same site.  Before the upgrade to 2007 it worked fine, but now with 2010 it gives an error and cancels the workflow when it gets to the copy list item step.   The error on the workflow page: The workflow could not copy the item. Access 2003 mdb file to SQL 2008r2 Express

I attempted to use 'Import Export Data' tool to import an Access 2003 mdb file into SQL Server 2008r2.  I didn't develop the Access file.  I get an 'Error 0xc0207015 - The data source column names must be unique' This is coming from one of the queries that accesses a few tables.  What is the easiest way to see which tables need to have a column changed or edit the query?  And also, too, how do I see whether other queries will have the same problem? Thanks,  Bill

Error code -2068578304 When Installing Express SP1 x64 as a Part of Visual Studio 2010 Installation

Howdy! I was installing the VS 2010 on my server running Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 and all of a sudden the setup finished with " Setup completed, however, there were failures reported installing optional components. " The final status is success. The left-hand pane of the finish page reads as: The following component failed to install: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express Service Pack 1 (x64).   Leaving alone the fact why setup executed the custom action that tried to install SQL Server Express Edition and Compact Edition when I just asked it to install SQL components (which presumably should be SQL SMO and DMO libraries), I would like to understand what had happed to Express install.   Inspecting the .\Logs\dd_error_vs_vstdcore_100.txt file gives the following record:   [09/16/10,16:06:51] Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express Service Pack 1 (x64): [2] Error code -2068578304 for this component is not recognized. Error connecting to SQL express - Visual Studio 2010

I recently installed Visual Studio 2010 and was getting the following error message when running the code (F5) "Error connecting to SQLexpress". The error page prevented me from seeing the webpage.

I consulted many different trouble-shooting recommendations, however, in my case, it was simply a problem with SQL. When I reinstalled SQL server 2008 on my computer, the error message was gone and I was able to see the ASP.net web development page.

SharePoint 2010 - Access Denied 403 error when viewing a list

We have a solution packaged as a WSP. It has worked fine on three machines now, but the person that is going to be doing a demo cannot get this working right. The features activate fine for the site collection, however, when he goes to view any of the lists created by this feature (or any of the layouts application pages),  he gets 403 forbidden errors. He can view the built in lists OK. It seems like an IIS configuration issue, we have double checked all of his settings, anything we could be missing?

EDIT - He can open SharePoint Designer and view the lists fine from there, even navigate to the permissions for them.

Error in Uploading Files to Access 2010 Web Database Table with Data Macro

Hi All,

I've recently published an Access 2010 Web Database to the SharePoint 2010 farm in my organization and I'm having the strangest problem.

I have a table which includes an Attachment field. When trying to upload a file through the web I get the following error: "There was an error uploading your attachment to the server".

Now, this table has a "Before Change" Data Macro, which basically executes a simple LookUp of several parameters from another table and writes them back to the "master" table. When deleting this Data Macro, upload on the Web works fine.

The thing is that when working from the local Access file (connected to the SharePoint) and trying to change a field in the table, the following error is received: "The Microsoft Access database engine encountered an error whil

Sharepoint 2010 Central Administrator giving 500 error w/ TFS 2010 & SQL 2010 express

I've been reading about this issue all day.  Some have said it's the DB and others have offered up Failed Request Tracing but nothing is working.  We have a standalone server running SharePoint 2010, TFS 2010 and SQL Express 2010.  Everything has been fine for a few months but now it appears that the SharePoint side is down.  Developers are able to check in code and work with TFS with no problem but as soon as anything dependant on SharePoint is accessed it throws a HTTP 500 error, this includes the Central Administrator.

When I run any Powershell I get this:

Get-SPFarmConfig : Microsoft SharePoint is not supported with version 4.0.30319

Visual Web Developer 2010 Express "Copy Web Site" using different login

I created a site and am trying to grant another pesron access to upload changes to it without giving them my super-user login.

I made a login for her but I can't test whether it works or not because no matter how much I "disconnect" in the Copy Web Site page of VWD 2010, reconnecting to the same site always logs in as my superuser account without prompting me for a login again.

How do I test is the account it set up correctly before having her try to upload to it?    I want to force the login to remote site dialog to pop up again to test her account.

Any ideas?

web sites made with visual webdeveloper express 2010

Good evening,

just a quick question, are there a lot of developers using  the express edition to make web sites, or is it limited to what you can do, and I would be  better getting the full edition visual studio 2010. I have been using dreamweaver, but I wanted to try my hand at asp.net, thx for any info you can offer.

Visual Web Dev 2010 error or new user error?

In a new web app, using the fresh new build, I added some fields that I wanted processed during login, i.e. common Profile stuff... added them to web.config.... sadly it appears that Studio 2010 will not automatically create a ProfileCommon class from ProfileBase, as previous studio web IDE's would do - that was frustrating for a bit, then I just created my own class... but that led to this interesting problem.

When populating the new profile attributes, the code behind class could not resolve any of the textbox referenced, all showed as not defined... figuring it was something simple, I kept going... added a customValidation control I needed, but though I double clicked the event in studio, and it dutifully created the stub code for me... the event never fired.

Determined to locate the problem I poored through forum entries and every reference I could (found lots of folks complaining about the profileCommon class stuff which is what led me to create my own class finally) -- but nothing specific to the problem I had of not seeing defined controls that were clearly there and working nor my customValidator control.

But... all of the code samples I saw - none had the ContentTemplate section... curious I removed that section, other items started to fail that were logical (header tags, etc.) but, my code behind section snapped back into order, intelisense n
