Agent job failure- sql 2008

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 19, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

1. I am using a third party tool to back up SQL 2008 DB's.  Recently I am getting this error whcih the job runs "Executed as user: SPPRODSQL\SYSTEM. The process could not be created for step 1 of job 0x7EDD177672C2174C85CEE305A19606B6 (reason: The system cannot find the file specified).  The step failed."

2. I am running the job with SA account.

3. Recently upgraded to the latest version of the third party tool which in turn upgrades the agent. This might have caused some problem. But I am not able to figure how to resolove it.  Can some one help me.

SQL 2008 Upgrade Replication failure

we upgraded to Sql 2008 standard edition last night from 2000 and our replication is now failing, cannot delete it or enter new ones.   I found one article saying the following stored procedures need to be run to upgrade the replcation:   exec sp_vupgrade_replication  exec sp_vupgrade_repl_metadata   however the first one throws and error and the second one seems not to exists.  does anyone have any insight into this. or how to delete the replications?   the error from the stored proc sp_vupgrade_replication  is :   Upgrading subscription settings and system objects in database [SoxAuditSystem]. Attempting to copy article resolvers from SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\Replication\ArticleResolver Msg 25026, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_registercustomresolver, Line 82 The proc sp_registercustomresolver cannot proceed because it is not run in the context of the distribution database, or the distribution database is not properly upgraded.

Sql Compact Subscription failure - Win 7 Ultimate 64 Bit Sql 2008 64 bit, Sql Ce 3.5 sp1

Greetings,  Testing sql compact subscription setup on a single machine.  Can NOT get the subscription to initialize.  This works without fail on server 2003, 32 bit, and IIS 6.  I think it is security but not sure.  Using web syncConfigured publication and web sync went fine.  Key secret here was using sqlce 3.5 sp1 tools. the http://localhost/sync/sqlcesa35.dll?diag works fineThe create snapshot works fineAdded the IUSR with db_owner rights to the primary database.Added the IUSR to the publication access list. The Agent is running, I checked that.Created a new sql ce db in the management studio and configured the subscription through the wizard, like I do all the time in sql 2005.It fails with the following error codes, which I suspect are security related.  Below is the setup for the subscription:Publisher: My-PCPublisherDatabase: MyDBPublication: MyDB_PUBSubscriber: 0024HostName: 0024InternetUrl: http://localhost/sync/sqlcesa35.dllWeb Server Authentication: AnonymousPublisherSecurityMode: Windows AuthenticationError Message below:2010/03/11 15:20:07 == SQLCESA Version ==> 3.5.5692.02010/03/11 15:20:07 Hr=00000000 SQLCE Server Agent Loaded - Version 3.5.5692.002010/03/11 15:20:17 Thread=4A0 RSCB=1 Command=SCHK Hr=80045637 ERR:Initialize failed for DistributorSessionID =  02010/03/11 15:20:17 Thread=4A0 RSCB=1 Command=SCHK Hr=8004

SQL Server 2008 Install failure - Reporting Services Rule Failures

I'm installing SQL Server 2008 on Windows 7.  I'm going through the install and on the "Installation Rules" page I have two failures: Reporting Services Catalog Database File Existance Reporting Services Catalog Temporary Database File Existance Clicking on each of the failures they both say that each file exists "Select a reporting services file-only mode installation" Clicking the "Help" button tells me to "Rename, move, or delete the files" This is the only information I can find on this exact failure.  I'm not technical enough to know exactly where these files are or what they are named.  I cannot proceed any further without correcting this issue.  I'll include some of the shorter summary log files.  I can include other detail log files if that would help. Thank you so much for any help. SQL Server 2008 Agent Fails to start in a Win 2008 Cluster

When I try to bring SQLAGENT Online, I get the following errors: EventID:53 [sqagtres] StartResourceService: Failed to start SQLSERVERAGENT service.  CurrentState: 1 [sqagtres] OnlineThread: ResUtilsStartResourceService failed (status 435) [sqagtres] OnlineThread: Error 435 bringing resource online.   I just did a fresh SQL Cluster install as well.  When I installed the cluster, the service account was good to go.  I cant figure out what is going on.  SQL Server Engine starts fine.  Any ideas?

SQL Agent - service account permissions - SQL Server 2008

Hi @ all   I installed two SQL Server 2008 on Server 2008 R2 Std (principal and mirror) and an AD Server 2008, with sperate service accounts, connect as SA, localy all works fine. I created some agent tasks (PowerShell, T-SQL), but I get some Error massages in the history, that service account of SQL Agent didn't have the permission to query a remote machine(access denied for wmi (HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED)) and linked database(SQLSTATE 42000 Error(7314)). The simple query with SA permissions on the remote machine works and the powershell scripts with the local domain user works too. But not with the SQL Agent. WHY?? Where ist the different between the user account permisions and service account permissions? Which settings are needed? Example: get-wmiobject -class win32_service -computername 192.168.xxx.xxx| where {$_.name -like '*SQL*'} Powershell Console: works                                     SQL Agent Job: access denied I tried some solutions with user rights, group policies and security permissions but nothing works. like: Configuration -Service Accounts, SQL Server or SQL Server Agent service account http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283811/en-us http://msdn2.microsoft.com/

Getting "Provider load failure" from SSRS Configuration Manager (SQL 2008 R2 Hot Fix CU3 did not fix

After upgrading our SQL 2008 cluster to R2, SSRS on one node works fine, but the second node will not allow connection via the Configuration Manager (getting "Provider load failure").  We've done re-installs, repairs and applied Hot Fix CU3, but the issue remains. NOTE: It's understood that SSRS is not a clustered resource.  We have it installed as separate instances on each of the two cluster nodes.

SSIS Package / SQL Agent Job never ends on SQL 2008 R2

I have run into a strange problem and hoping someone may have a suggestion.

We have a set of SSIS packages that are developed in BIDS 2005. The packages are all executed by SQL Agent Jobs on a scheduled basis. These packages have been running on numerous SQL 2005 instances for the last year or so with no issues being experienced.

We recently has our first customer start running SQL 2008 R2 and we have internally upgraded to SQL 2008 R2 in our development environment. We are not converting the packages to SQL 2008 as we still need to support customers who are running SQL 2005. The problem is that in both our dev environment and at this particular customer, we have seem a random issue where the SQL Agent job never seems to end. Most of our jobs normally execute in less than 2 minutes, but occasionally (one or twice a week) a random job will just not end until we manually cancel it. We don't know if it is the SSIS package that is not ending or the SQL job.

We never experienced this on SQL 2005.

Anyone have any ideas what may be causing this? Any suggestions for troubleshooting?

Any help will be much appreciated

SQL Agent - Running SSIS Package - Windows Server 2008/Windows 7 - Messenger Services

We have tried to run a SQL job for SSIS Package. But it failed during the execution with the error "[364] The Messenger service has not been started - NetSend notifications will not be sent". But in the job, no notifications have been configured and in windows server 2008/Windows-7 there is no messenger service at all.

When we search for the the messenger service in windows 7/windows server 2008, we found that service is not in both the OS and it was replaced by msg.exe.

Any help or workaround would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

PS: The normal SQL jobs other than SSIS are working fine without any error.

MSSQL 2008 SP1 install fails: A failure was detected for a previous installation, patch, or repair

When attempting to install SQL Server 2008 SP1, I get the "Setup Failure" message below, along with Error code 0x84B20001.  I did read the summary*.txt files from previous installations in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log" as mentioned in the error message; the "Final result" and "Exit message" of the previous install is "Passed", so I'm not finding an answer that way.  I have also pasted the version info below.  What would you advise?

A failure was detected for a previous installation, patch, or repair during configuration for features [SQL_DTS_Full,Connectivity_Full,SQL_SSMS_Full,SDK_Full,Tools_Legacy_Full,SQL_BIDS_Full,SQL_SSMS_Adv,SQL_PowerShell_Tools_ANS,SQL_WRITER,]. In order to apply this patch package (KB968369), you must resolve any issues with the previous operation that failed. View the summary.txt log to determine why the previous operation failed.

Cannot start SQL Agent (2008)

I have a server with SQL Express 2008 running on it.

SQL Agent service appears to be disabled, but when I try and start it I get the following error:

the sql server agent (SQLEXPRESS) service on local computer started and the stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do for example the Performance Logs and Alerts Service.

Anyone know whats causing this?

Analysis Services 2008 R2 Installation Failure

I'm trying to install SQL Server 2008 R2 x86 Evaluation Edition on my Windows XP SP3 32bit computer (all current updates to the OS are installed) but I get an error when I install Analysis Services.

Other features install successfully. I have only a problem with Analysis Services. To be more specific:

When installation is running on "ASConfigAction_install_postmsi_Cpu32" I get the error message: "The Service could not be started. Reason: Service 'MSSQLServerOLAPService' start request failed." Configuration error code: 0xD448CDD2

The installer then continues, but eventually crashes. In the end it says that it managed to install everything but Analysis Services.

I used default instance, default installation folders, windows authentication. Didn't change anything installer suggested. Added myself to AS administrators.

I disabled firewall and antivirus prior to running setup. I'm an administrator user (not part of any domain).

I used NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM for Analysis Service. NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE for SQL Server Engine.

After installation if I try to run AS Service from SQL Server Configuration Manager I get the following error:

"The request failed or the service did not respond in a timely fashion. Consult the event log or other applicable logs for details.&qu
