I need to synchronize 2 database server, one is hosted within my client intranet environment, and the other outside my client network in an external data centre. My client intranet network is protected by 1 or more firewalls.
For security concern, I am thinking of using web synchronization for merge replication to synchronize the 2 database so that the firewall only need to open port 443 (as opposed to 1433) and the data are encrypted using HTTP over SSL.
My idea is to setup the internet server as the publisher/ distributor and the intranet server as the subscriber.
However, I have never done this before, and anyone can advice on the following
- For web synchronization, other than port 443, do I need to open up other ports in the firewall?
- The internet server is not connected to the company domain. Therefore, when the intranet database server connect to the IIS on the internet server, will there be any problem?
- Can web synchronization for merge replication work for 2 servers on different domain?
- I have tried to set up similar test environment but keep getting the error, "The Merge Agent could not connect to the URL 'https://<server name>/replisapi.dll' during Web synchronization. Please verify that the URL, Internet login credentials
and proxy server settings are correct and that the Web server is reach
