SQL Server - A Complete DW Setup

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 19, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

In my current setup, I've have a SQL Server 2005 acting as a datawarehouse. Informatica is the ETL. Oracle ESSBASE is the dashboard and analyatical tools.

What will be the benefits and costs savings if the ETL is changed to Integration Services and the ESSBASE is replaced by Reporting Services and Analysis Services ? Are the inherent SQL Services on par with those mentioned 3rd party tools ? Or much better ? Say in SQL Server 2008 ?

Like your opinions please.

SQL Server Installation error. setup.rll

Hi, I am coming to you folks for some help on this issue that has been baffling me. Installing SQL Server 2008 R2 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 generates the same error every time ( "SQL Server 2008R2\Resouces\1033\Setup.rll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error tryinstalling the program again using the original installation media." Then when I click on OK (From the error box) I get the following message: SQL Server MEdia does not support the language of the OS or doewn't have an ENU lcalized files. Use the matching language specific SQL. I am using a full version of both Windows Server and SQL Server.

SQL Server Express 2008 Setup fails. Support Rule "Restart Computer" Failed

Hi, I have been trying to install SQL Server Express for most of the day now without any luck.  Whatever I do setup fails at the stage of Setup Support Rules, Rule "Restart Computer" - Failed.  Needles to say I have restarted (several times!) and I have tried downloading  and installing the "Advanced", "Tools" and "Basic" versions, all give the same error.  Trying a repair does the same.  I have been searching the net for an answer without success, any help would be MUCH appreciated. Further info: I am trying to install a stand-alone installation on to a single PC running under XP SP 3 with .NET 3.5 SP1 installed.  The PC did have some earler versions of SQL server installed but I (?hopefully?) removed all of these through Control Panel.  Before trying the first SQL install I installed Windows installer 4.5 and PowerShell 1.0 as per the Microsoft Instructions. Running SQL Server Configuration Manager results in an error (MMC could not create the snap-in. The snap in might not have been installed correctly).  A directory structure for SQL server exists in "Program Files".  Services MSC shows SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) as Automatic Statup (not running).  Trying to start this manually gives error 14001: "application configuration incorrect - re-install to fix" .......... Which is precisely what I'm trying to do.........:(

How to setup windows server 2008 to enable socket communication?

I wrote a simple socket program, which listens to the 82 port, then receives and sends data through it. I tested the program on my local machine and it works fine, but after I published the program onto my windows server 2008, it does not work anymore. I guess it should be the firewall causing the problem, so I added rules to allow 82 port for both in and out bound, and I also add my application to the allowed program list for passing firewall, but still doesn't work, how could I solve it?   The windows server 2008 machine has a public network IP address, while my workstation is in a local network without public IP address, I connect to server 2008 through a router which has a public IP address. Is that the problem?   thanks! Regards! directfriends.net

Solution deployment requires executing execadmsvcjobs command on search server to complete deploymen

We have multiple Sharepoint 2007 farms and deploy custom code weekly to the farms. On one o the farms it is required to run stsadm -o execadmsvcjobs on the Search server in the farm in order for solution deployments to complete deploying. These are solution recycles that we are running. This is the only farm this happens on and all farms are identical. In central admin it shows the solution state as deploying. How to setup port forwarding for SharePoint server on home network

I have a SharePoint 2010 server running on my home network.  I want to be able to access the server from the internet and edit pages, create sites etc.  The web applications is running on a specific port (1234) not port 80. I've configured my router to forward port 1234 to the server's IP address and I can access the site fine from the internet using the routers IP address and adding the port number.  Viewing the site works fine but the problem is when I try to access a page in the _layouts folder for any of the sub sites I get a "File not found" error.  Also, if I go to a sub site and create a new site (no _layouts page required) it works but the new site is created directly under the root and not the sub site. It seems that the port forwarding from the router is messing up the context for the _layouts folder.  Is there any way around this? Thanks.

Testing setup of SQL Server 2008 R2 developer

The "Windows Package Manager" has the error "Operation failed with 0x80070643" and "Fatal error during installation." I have tried a few basic approaches to the installation problem, including downloading the ISO image to a different computer.  I have burned the ISO image onto four different DVDs using different media and two computers but only succeeded in verifying the burned media is Ok.  I have verified the SHA1 key with the two installation ISO images that were downloaded.  I have tried repairing the installation, but that generated a different kind of error message, "Error 1316.A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file E:\1033_ENU_LP\x64\setup\SSCERuntime_x86-enu.msi".  And then there is the "SQL Server 2008 R2 Setup has stopped working" message indicating "Windows is checking for a solution to the problem...". How fatal are the errors being encountered?  Is everything Ok?  How can I test that SQL Server 2008 R2 is fully functional?  T.69.72.

Windows 7, SQL Server 2008 Express & VWD 2008 Express Setup Problems

Hi I have Windows 7 Home Premium, and Visual Web Developer Express 2008 (which came with SP1) installed. SQL Server 2008 Express never worked - Windows 7 won't allow the Management Studio to be installed and VWD was asking for SQL Server 2005.  Looking on the web, I found advice to try the 32 bit version of SQL Server instead.  This would work with VWD, apparently.  I referred to these instructions (http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/6/3/163A851B-D956-42E9-B426-F5C0EBE6B654/ReleaseNotes.htm) and used the latest links and instructions, but I could not install SQL Server at all - apparently something to do with WOW64... This has been going on for a WHILE and I'm going nuts.  I am reluctant to uninstall VWD and start again, because I had to manually fix a few things, and now it's working...  PLEASE can someone tell me of a working configuration, I have read SO MUCH advice on this, and none works, including those release notes (unless I missed something) :(
