How to deploy a RDL file using rs.exe?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 19, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi all,

I would like to deploy a data source (.rds) file to SSRS like I already do with report files (.rdl):

Public Sub PublishReport(ByVal reportName As String)
    Try
        Dim stream As FileStream = File.OpenRead(filePath + reportName + ".rdl")
        definition = New [Byte](stream.Length) {}
        stream.Read(definition, 0, CInt(stream.Length))
        stream.Close()

    Catch e As IOException
        Console.WriteLine(e.Message)
    End Try

    Try
        warnings = rs.CreateReport(reportName, parentPath, False, definition, Nothing)

        If Not (warnings Is Nothing) Then
            Dim warning As Warning
            For Each warning In warnings
                Console.WriteLine(warning.Message)
            Next warning

        Else
            Console.WriteLine("Report: {0} published successfully with no warnings", reportName)
        End If

    Catch e As Exception
        Console.WriteLine(e.Message)
    End Try
End Sub

That method is used by the reporting service samples. There is also a method offered by Reporting Service to create a data source, but the definition is an element of "DataSourceDefinition" and not a stream like used for CreateReport. How can I deploy a .rds file or is it only possible to read the file and set the information into a "DataSourceDefinitio

SSIS 2K5 - Deploy SSIS Package with C# - Error File cannot be found

Hi,

I made a installer program in C# that deploy ssis package on a SQL server 2005. I have like 50 package that contain only dataflow to update a datawarehouse and create fact tables.

I made also one package that call all the other packages. When I try to deploy the packages on the SQL server with the command SaveToDtsServer, I receive an error BUT only on the package calling all the other SSIS package ?? All the other SSIS packages are deployed but the package that call other packages failed to deploy. Whats strange is that when I use the domain controler to deploy the package (I use Impersonation in my C# code) its all working fine, but if I use another user (like the computer admin account), I got the error only on the package calling other packages ???

Can anyone help me on that ? I really don't know whats happening ?

The error that i have is : The file can't be found. But like I said, when using the domain controler user for impersonation, its working ???

 try

   {

    imp = new Impersonation(session["DBMASTER"], session["DBMASTER_PWD"]);

So, is there any settings required if i deploy my application ?

how to deploy using SSISDeploymentManifest file

Since I received my new computer, the SSISDeploymentManifest don't deploy anymore.

If I write a SSIS using visual studio 2008 and build while creating a deployment manifest.  Double clicking on the deployment manifest file brings me to the program selection to open the file.  If I chose visual studio 2008, the file is opened in edit mode rather than executed.

What should I do to execute my deployment manifest?

Deploy and update script file with custom ribbon tab to Sharepoint Server 2010

Hey everyone,

currently I'm building a custom tab for Sharepoint Server 2010 and at the moment I'm stuck on the following issue,
with the first debug deployment Visual Studio sends the .js file that provides some functions for the ribbon elements from Scripts folder in the VS project
to Sharepoint Server.
However, it won't apply any changes I did on the script afterwards to the file on the server.
So the effect is, that as soon as I do the next debug, the previous script is being used by Sharepoint and the new version, containing the new code, is left aside.

It seems to me as if Visual Studio would only deploy the .js file just once and then rely to this copy, maybe there are some configuration settings to make, but after hours of research, I still can't figure out where things do go wrong or what configuration to apply to update the script on the server.
I couldn't locate the file on hdd either, even searched the whole fs but the results showed only the new script file.

Any help on this would be very much appreciated, this issue drives me nuts and consumes plenty of time ;)

Workaround at the moment: each time the script is changed, set up new project... :D

Cannot deploy application with SQLce datbase.sdf file. says file path is wrong?!

I am trying to deploy a simple windows desktop app using a SQLce database.sdf file. I have followed the steps in this walkthrough about 10 times and I still am having problems. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb546200.aspx

In my app config file my connection string is this:

 <add name="VendorTracker_2._0.Properties.Settings.Database1ConnectionString"

          connectionString="Data Source=C:\Users\Eamon\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\VendorTracker 2.0\VendorTracker 2.0\Database1.sdf"

          providerName="Microsoft.SqlServerCe.Client.3.5" />

According to the walkthrough, the windows installer should recognize that i am using a sqlce .sdf file and create a new connection string:

<add name="VendorTracker_2._0.Properties.Settings.Database1ConnectionString1"

            connectionString="Data Source=|DataDirectory|\Database1.sdf"

            providerName="Microsoft.SqlServerCe.Client.3.5" />

It does add this connection string to the app config file. Now I

How do you deploy a file alongside the web.config

Hi All,

I need to deploy a file to the web application root folder (the same that stores the web.config - e.g. C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80\). This needs to be done as a feature, however, everything I try seems to fail and the only error I receive is:

Error occurred in deployment step 'Add Solution': Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Here's my sample code, however, I suspect I'm using the wrong approach ...

public override void FeatureInstalled(SPFeatureReceiverProperties properties)
    {

      string xmlLocation = properties.Feature.Definition.RootDirectory + "file.xml";
      TextWriter writer = new StreamWriter(xmlLocation );
      writer.WriteLine("...");
      writer.Close();
}

File Splitter in .Net

I love to do utility programs in .Net. And this is one of them. As I was playing with JSplit (a free file splitter program), I wondered if I could do it in .Net. The framework supports file operations like reading files in bytes and creating them. It is indeed easy to do file operations in .Net Basics on File operations

Upload Multiple File using JQuery in asp.net

Upload a File to a SharePoint Document Library - Part I

The following helper class demonstrates a few techniques that allow documents to be uploaded to a SharePoint document library programmatically without using the API or a custom web service. You don't need to specify a document library name, and it will create any folders specified in the URL as required. File meta data will be updated if any properties are passed.

SmtpClient and Locked File Attachments

Got a note a couple of days ago from a client using one of my generic routines that wraps SmtpClient. Apparently whenever a file has been attached to a message and emailed with SmtpClient the file remains locked after the message has been sent. Oddly this particular issue hasn't cropped up before for me although these routines are in use in a number of applications I've built.

How to call an .exe file in .net

ClientAccessPolicy file in SharePoint 2010

I am upgrading my Silverlight demo code from the old beta to beta 2 and see that there are a few new considerations for the deployment of ClientAccessPolicy.xml files. In a previous post I demonstrated how to do this for SharePoint 2007. The heartburn that I get with that approach is any site collection owner or designer can drag the file into the site collection and open the site up to unwanted client access issues. In 2010 the virtual path provider no longer serves the files from the root of the site collection

Multi File Upload Using JQuery!

Transfering a file from Conputer to PDA

You can transfer one file at a time between your computer and another Bluetooth device by using the Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard. For example, you can transfer files between your computer and a mobile phone or a PDA. You can also transfer files between two computers that use Bluetooth.
