Sharepoint 2007 Search Not Working

I am pulling my hair out guys. I have tried everything i could find from this site and all other sites but have not been successful. No matter what i do I cannot get the search to work. We are using SharePoint 2007 and the search had been fine but our security team performed some patches and now I’m stuck with a dead search feature.

Any help would be immensely appreciated.

Things I have tried but did not resolve the problem:

1. Check all accounts and passwords

2. Run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard

3. Reboot server reset IIS

4. Try to rebuild the index but that also fails

5. Check the Content Access Account

Hi All,

we receive error  while trying to create excel sheet using the template we have uploaded on the SharePoint 2007.


This occurs on a machine that has Office 2010 installed. Earlier the machine had Office 2007 and everything was working fine.


Can you let me know why is problem is coming and how to resolve this.

Ingest google Search Index into Sharepoint 2007


Hi Folks

 I am wondering  if there is a way to ingest google search index into SharePoint index such that when people search via SharePoint they see the Google results too… incorporated/federated inline with the SP results (not as a separate "box" ).

We have Google search in our environment and also share-point search. Share-point search for sharepoint site but Google search is for all other environments. Now i am thinking if we ingest the Google search index into share-point then may be its great deal to provide user a platform to search everything on one place.

Sharepoint 2007 Document Search and Highlight in Office 2007 and PDF


We will be implementing Document Search (DOC, DOCX, PDF, TIFF, PPT, PPTX, XLS, XLSX) for one of our customers. We were evaluating a few MOSS 2007 based solutions, and happened to visit your site.  What we intend to achieve are the following functionalities:


a.       User should be able to search through 1000s of documents which are in a Sharepoint Document Library

b.      The documents could be in English, International Languages.

c.       Each document is 70-100 pages, and therefore it is important that the Search Results show the relevant pages on which the Search Text appears (Get Highlighted) within each document . Clicking on the link will take the user to the right page.

d.      The additional requirement is Synonym search. So, I can search for

I am having an annoying Issue with the Sharepoint 2007 Enterprise search functionality. I cannot get the Search Centre to work, the out of the box webparts crash the page except the Searchbox when the others are closed. The event viewer shows up numerous Errors (Office Sharepoint Server - EventID 7080) returns with and the same when trying to add a search related web part (e.g. core.results, federated etc). EventID 6398 - Timer is a regular as is 7080. Details below.

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified).

Remote connections are connected, I am not 100% on the Instance name, (how would I go about checking this?)

Also I cannot access the link to SharedServices1 - Open Shared Services Admin site (not clickable), guess it's permissions but I seem to have full site permissions, I think I need SSP-Admin to make more edits to the Search, maybe this is related :s

Both Search Servers are runnig, I have tried everything I can think of to fix this and allow the Search Centre to work.

I am running Sharepoint 2007 on SQL Server 2008.

Discussion board template of SharePoint 2007 not working properly


Use case 1 – Discussion board to suggest change to documents

 User adds a suggestion. The discussion board needs fields like module name, document name, section name and reason for a change etc.


 Problem 1 – When I try to add fields to the discussion board – When a user wants to post a reply to a suggestion, user screen shows the new item form and all fields instead of just a reply or comment field. Need help how can I ensue user only sees reply or comment field?


 Problem 2 – If I make these changes in the discussion board template through SharePoint designer 2007 and later if we plan to upgrade to SP 2010. Do I have to redo the changes I did on old discussion board or will upgrade take care of migration of the changes to new discussion board template available with SP 2010?

SharePoint 2007 Expiration Policy Not working : Access denied for the site


I have a SharePoint 2007 List with Expiration Enabled in Information and Policy Management. I have a datatime column ExpiryDate which i used in Expiration. On Expiration I have chose to delete the item. Through Central Admin I run the expiration by clicking "Process Expired Items now" button. I got the following error in the Windows event viewer.

Expiration Service for site http://md-rmanimaran failed.

Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))

EventID: 5016

Category: Information Policy Management 

Where I need to specify the login details to get rid of this error? Anybody Please help..




Search relevancy in sharepoint 2007

Hello Everybody, Environment: Moss 07 Problem: when searching in MOSS 07 returns list of all pdf's, word document, ppt's etc first and then related pages latter.   Requirement: want a mix of results which includes documents and pages to be shown in first page.   My approach till now:   I tried downloading Search relevancy tool for sharepoint 07 from codeplex http://searchrelevancy.codeplex.com/   Dont know if adjusting weights will give me correct result. I am clueless as the results are showing the contents of document in the first page and after several pages the links are shown.   Can somebody help me on this.  

SharePoint Search not working on one site collection

I am running into some weird behavior with how SharePoint is crawling site/list data.  Let's say our main intranet site is http://www.intranet.com: Most of our older sites are setup with URLs like http://www.intranet.com/sites/sitename .  Crawling is working fine on these sites and I can execute a search and find all of the results I would expect.  At some point recently (before I joined this firm), they made a decision that all new sites would have the URL http://www.intranet.com/SiteDirectory/sitename .  Any sites which fall into this bucket are not being crawled, it would seem. If I check Central Adman>Shared Services>Search Administration, I can see that the first content source being crawled is http://www.intranet.com so I would imagine this crawl should pick up anything under /SiteDirectory/ but it is not.  I also checked the Crawl Settings on this page and it is set to "Crawl everything under the hostname for each start address".  Lastly, I see that there were only 21 errors in the last full crawl but none of these errors apply to a /SiteDirectory/ site. In short, what could be causing the crawl to apparently skip all of the sites within /SiteDirectory/ and how can this best be fixed?

Sharepoint Search and Secure Store Service not working

Hi There I am having issues with a few Sharepoint Services When I try to search for a document on any SharePoint site, I recieve an "Internal Server Error Exception". However when I checked the log files, I couldn't find any error messages matching with the given correlation ID. The search was working 2-3 weeks ago. Also 2 weeks ago, I started receiving warnings in the Health Analyzer saying “The Security token service is not available”. I am wondering if the security token service breaking down is related to the search issues, and if so what suggestions I could try to fix this issue. I am also unable to access the secure store service. In Central Administration->Application Management->Manage Service Applications, I try to click on the Secure Store Service, but there is no Proxy attached to the service, and I receive a message “No Secure Store Service Application Proxy ID was found”. SharePoint 2010 Claims Based Authenticaton site working but search is broken

Hi, I have SP 2010 sucessfully installed on a Windows 2008 R2 server with SQL Server 2008 R2.  I created local machine accounts for the following: MACHINE\mssqlservice MACHINE\sp_admin MACHINE\sp_search MACHINE\sp_farms I have setup 2 sites with public facing internet access as well as local sites. I have CBA working properly on both sites from both public and private access. My problem is that when I go to search, I am constantly redirected to an error page. I have checked all SP services on the server and they are all running as MACHINE\mssqlservice That account has proper access to all sites as well as all DB's. My search is crawling and I get one error from a long named PDF file in my site, which is OK.   My questions is if my CBA is working fine and my search is crawling, why I am not getting a results page when I search from the sites:   Here is the error I get:   Error Internal server error exception:   Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation. Correlation ID: 5a03b730-42c2-48c9-a220-3b9d052481de Date and Time: 9/9/2010 4:45:07 PM   I am kind of stuck at this point and am not sure how to proceed.  Any help would be appreciated.        --TR

sharepoint 2007 cache not working

Hi,  we have performance problems with our medium SharePoint farm (2 FE, 2 APP en SQL Cluster). One of the problems is probably related to the cache on the FE's not working. I enabled the two features that need to be enabled, setup a cache profile and enabled debug info is written. I then went in and enabled output caching based on this profile. But what ever I do, I cannot seem to speed up the rendering of these mainly static pages and evenso the source does not include any 'cache' terms (which it should according to the docs because I enabled the debug checkbox). In teh perfmon I see high publishing cach hit count (1.500.000), publ. cache hit ratio (96), nr of objects added 26.000, nr oif objects discarded 22.000 Someone wrote in a blog that you also should enable writes can see cache info) if there are a lot of editors (and there are). So I did this, but no change. Do I need to recylce after cache options have been altered? Also any clues on why there might be no cache debug info in my (simple) pages? Do I need extra configuration on IIS of websites or something? Thanx for any help/advice.. Sander    

Working on a solution targeting SharePoint 2007 and 2010



I'm working on a SharePoint webpart which i'm targeting for both SharePoint 2007 as well as SharePoint 2010. I want to create a common build to make it work in both SharePoint 2007 and 2010. How should i do that? I'm working on Visual Studio 2010 and my dev environment has SharePoint 2007 installed.

Also, multiple developers may work in the same solution. Some of them have 2007 installed and some have SP 2010 installed. Will it work?

SharePoint 2007 Enterprise Search Scope Question



I have configured different search scopes to point to different search contents on my MOSS server and had them displayed on cope dropdown menu.  Everything is working great but with one issue; the selected scope from the default Search page does not stick on the Result page.

For example, I have three scope choices available on my scope dropdown menu: scope1, scope2, and scope3.  For this particular scope Display Group, I have selected "scope1" to be the default.  So when I go to the main Search page, "scope1" is shown as the default choice on the scope dropdown menu.  If I select another scope from the dropdown menu (e.g., scope2) and perform a search, it takes me to the Result page showing the result of the search and also shows what I typed in in the search text box.  The problem is that although I selected "scope2" on the original page's dropdown menu, the result page's dropdown menu shows "scope1" which is the default choice and not what I selected on the original page.  This behavior is confusing to my end users who want to refine their search from the Result page but then they have to re-select "scope2" from the dropdown menu.

My question is, is there a way for me to make the selected scope choice from the original page to stick on the Result page's s

SharePoint & CRM 4.0 Integration - Cannot get finder/search working


I have a little problem with my current SharePoint and CRM integration. I used Codeplex's CRM BDC file and imported it with no issues. Using a BDC Item list I am able to pull off accounts from CRM. However, this is limted to 200 records and cannot be narrowed down.

I believe there is already an IDENumerator, Finder and Wildcard set up in the file. Has anyone managed to get this working with their own integrations? The application file has:
