Incremental Crawls take hours randomly

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 26, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

On occasion the incrmental crawls; which usually take under 1 minute take hours to run.

The crawl logs show a successful crawl message and the nothing til it completes, not a single log entry.

It will eventually finish and the next incrmemental will run just fine.

No errors or anything to speak of.

Patterns in Practice: Incremental Delivery Through Continuous Design

The end goal of software projects is to deliver value to the customer. Software design is a major factor in how successfully a team can deliver that value. The best designs are a product of continuous design rather than the result of an effort that tries to get the entire design right up front. This approach lets you strive to apply lessons learned from the project to continuously improve the design, instead of becoming locked into an erroneous design developed too early in the project.

Why does text and page formating changes randomly?

Hallo there, First of all I don't know if I am posting in the right forum, so let me know if there is another forum for this issue. My form text and entire page formating changes once a while and I don't know why. e.g. font color, background color of certain paragraphs or table look changes, it seems randomly, I think it has something to do with the style but I don't know how to avoid this repeated text formating loses. In details: U am using Visual Studio 2010 Professional and is set for Visual Web Development. I create a new form e.g. default.aspx link it to a master page and the master page is linked to a css file (style sheet file) that contains only general and basic formatings and I hardly change any thing in this css file. I format my default.aspx. and later the formating chanegs by it self and I have to change it back manualy. Most of the time I have to create a new form. link it to the master page and copy the text, tables and so on from the original page to the new page and then delete the original page. but even the new page chnages later. and so on. I don't know how to avoid that! Any idea's? Thanks in advance  Michael Najar wishes you great day

Visual Studio 2010 randomly crashing

Hi,    I'm using Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate RTM and I'm experiencing frequent and random crashes (on an avarage of once in 5-15 minutes) of the IDE after which it restarts and any unsaved progress is lost. Data flow task with multiple destinations randomly hangs

I have a package whose control flow consisting of a single data flow task with multiple destinations continues to hang at random locations.  The data flow task is fairly simple: - One OLE DB source (one query of selecting about 10 fields from one table) - 9 lookups that serve basically as left joins to capture which data "drops off" (does a row redirect on on lookup errors to an "error flow") - Two destinations: one the captures all the data that doesn't drop off from the lookups, and another to capture the data that does drop off; these write to two tables unrelated to each other, and unrelated to any of the tables I'm reading from I have tried the following: - Changed one or both destinations from OLE DB to flat file -- still randomly hangs - Removed both destinations altogether -- this always suceeds.   - Removed destination A and leave destination B -- this always succeeds - Removed destination B and leave destination A -- this always succeeds I took great care in making sure I get no warnings when the package runs, even resolving the unneeded column warnings, and the duplicate keys on all my lookups, but it still hangs. However, once I give up and stop the package, the following error is thrown (among others that appear to be a byproduct of the root issue): Error: 0xC02020C4 at Data Flow Task, OLE_SRC AP12 [1]: The attempt to

My Sql server 2005 Database in recovery mode for 3 -4 hours every day

Connection to SQL server 2008 fails randomly

I'm sure a lot of you have seen this error: "A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server" Normally I would assume that this would mean that there's a problem connecting to the SQL server, but currently I'm having a hard time figuring out what the problem is and how to fix it The problem only occours randomly, but mostly it is when I from the same computer calls the server several times for example like this: For i as integer = 0 to 500 OpenConnectionToSqlServer(Bla bla) ReadData() CloseConnection() next I always makes sure to close the connection again. The more often I connect to SQL server in a row, the higher is the percentage of errors I have created my code so that if the above error happens, the program will wait for a second, then try again (after 3rd try it will stop trying)   I have several times been monitoring the SQL server at the same time, but I can't seem to see anything from there :(

Incremental processing -> aggregations dropped, even with rigid attribute relations

Hi! Very briefly, my goal is to incrementally process the fact data for my SSAS 2005 cube, without losing aggregations. For that purpose, I have defined all attribute relationships as rigid (I don't really expect any of the relations to change) because I hear that flexible aggregations get dumped during incremental processing. BIDS Helper indeed confirms that all of my aggregations are rigid. Then I proces the cube, either via the SSMS GUI using the "Process Incremental" option, or with an XMLA command using type "ProcessAdd". The outcome is the same, no matter which method I use. Then I check the status of my aggregations. I do so first by sending a DISCOVER_PARTITION_STAT Discover XMLA query (http://geekswithblogs.net/darrengosbell/archive/2008/12/02/ssas-are-my-aggregations-processed.aspx), and, as a double check, by sending a query to the cube from which I know it normally uses an aggregation and checking in the profiler whether the aggregation is really used. The result is always the same: The aggregations are lost! The DISCOVER_PARTITION_STAT query informs me that all aggregations have size = 0. Note, that after a ProcessFull, all aggregations are there (with size > 0) and work as expected, so the problem only occurs after incremental processing. Also for the problem to occur it is enough to incrementally process the cube, the dimensions are lef

MOSS 2007 Calculate Due Date including working hours and working days

Hi, I've searched many forums for an answer to my problem but with very limited success. Basically, I've created a Sharepoint list where I would like to track a resolution of incidents versus SLA timings. I have a column with a receiving date, which is a date when the request was submitted and another column with priority code where I have 3 possible values: low (5 working days to close the request), medium (3 days) and high (1 day). What I would like to do is to automatically calculate due date for solving the incident based on the receiving date and the priority code. The thing is that now it is getting more complicated since I need to exclude saturdays and sundays from calculation, as well as national holidays. Then I would like to take into account working hours (from 8am to 4pm), for example if an incident with medium priority was submitted on Friday 5pm, then it would have its due date set to Wednesday 4pm (the request was sent after working hours so we have 3 full working days to complete it) Not sure if it is feasible to achieve using formulas, maybe some other way?

ListFormWebPart Randomly Deleted

Generally, when I edit any type of Form, I make a backup of the Form I am customizing.  I know how catastrophic it can be to delete the ListFormWebPart so I never do it.  That said, last night, something happened. I have a custom DispForm.aspx where I had added a WebPartZone to the right hand side (I did not touch the LFWP).  I also made a backup of DispForm.aspx called DispFormOriginal.aspx before I made any changes. I did this about a month ago. Last night, SharePoint graciously decided it would delete the LFWP from both the custom and the backup page.  I checked the last modified dates as well as the logs and it shows that I edited these pages over a month ago.  How does something like this happen?  The wonderful thing is that now I have to recreate the list (which has thousands of entries) not to mention rewrite Javascript web service code. *Sigh...* Any recommendations on how to fix this short of recreating the list?
