Document prompt for password

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 19, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

The publishing site has been added as an intranet site to all users

Now, I have a document library, some of the users (visitors) will get prompted for password, username when they tried to open the document, is there a way to get rid of that prompt, I thought SP will picked up the credential automatically, and the weird thing is some users get prompt, but some don't.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance.

Open Office Documents from Document Library without Password Prompt

We have a SharePoint site and Document library set up for anonymous access.   All non-Microsoft file types open correctly without a password.   When users click on Microsoft Office documents they are prompted for passwords.   Is there some way to configure the Office documents or Document Library so that users are not prompted for passwords when they open documents or is this a bug?

Opening office Documents in MOSS 2007 document Library.... You get a prompt to login...

*Sigh* i know i'm not the only one who has experienced this.   You have a Moss 2007 farm on your Server... yet you have employees and users who use Office 2003 products (word, excel, power point) Everything is installed correctly you yourself use office 2007. but don't post office 2007 docs.. just open the docs that people already post (2003 stuff) Computer Environment si am using....It does this in both Environments1st one Windows Vista Ultimate Updated Service Packs Office 2007 All update Serice Packs Internet explorer 7.0 2nd Environment Windows XP all updated Service Packs Office 2007 All updated Service Packs Windows Internet Explorer 7.0 Server Environment Moss 2007 with SP1 installed Microsoft 2003 Server No matter what happens.... when i try to open up a word documents or excel or anything.. when using office 2007..... it ask me for a login...I believe there was an article about correcting something in the registry or something.. can someone give me detail bulleted / bold instructions... this has been bothering me for a while.

Document Library Prompt

I would like to prompt a user to enter name and email address when downloading a document from a document library. Has anyone done this, or would like to point me somewhere to start?

Accessing SharePoint via UNC Path Causes Password Prompt

I have a script that has to use a UNC path to drop a file into a SharePoint document library. For some users on some computers when they try to access the SharePoint site (http://Sharepoint) via the UNC Path (\\Sharepoint) they get a password prompt. Most users do not get a password prompt and get let right in. I have checked all the obvious things like zone settings, saved network passwords, etc. If I log a user that gets a password prompt into a different machine (that isn't having the problem) then it works just fine. This indicates to me that it is a client issue as opposed to a user issue.

Password prompt with R2 on a separate machine

I am able to access report manager and service URLs locally on a machine running SQL 2008 R2, but when I try openning either of those URLs from another machine under where I am logged under the same user name, I am getting endless password prompts and unable to log in.

The IE machine is 2003 R2, the server is 2008 R2.

What is wrong here?

Working with SharePoint document libraries

Document libraries are collections of files that you can share with team members on a Web based on Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services. For example, you can create a library of common documents for a project, and team members can use their Web browsers to find the files, read them, and make comments. Users with Microsoft Office 2003 can check out and edit the files as if they resided on a local or network drive.

By default, your team Web site comes with a built-in document library named Shared Documents, which is listed on the Quick Launch bar as well as on the Documents and Lists page.

jQuery $(document).ready() and ASP.NET Ajax asynchronous postback

Many call it the ASP.NET jQuery postback problem, but using the technique below should make it no problem anymore. $(document).ready() isn't called after an asynchronous postback. What this means? You lose the functionality that should be executed within $(document).ready() after an UpdatePanel rendered its contents after an asynchronous postback.

SharePoint Document Workspaces for Developers

Office 2003 is being released this month, and a cast of supporting applications is already available. One of these is Windows SharePoint Services 2.0, the free team add-on for Windows Server 2003. If you're not familiar with SharePoint Services basics, take a look at What Developers Need to Know About Windows SharePoint Services. In this article, I'm going to drill into one key place where SharePoint and Office 2003 overlap: document workspaces

Upload a File to a SharePoint Document Library - Part I

The following helper class demonstrates a few techniques that allow documents to be uploaded to a SharePoint document library programmatically without using the API or a custom web service. You don't need to specify a document library name, and it will create any folders specified in the URL as required. File meta data will be updated if any properties are passed.

SharePoint document migration challenges when migrating files and folders

There are several challenges when migrating documents to Microsoft SharePoint. While these challenges can be overcome, they are a real pain if the migration source, content and file systems are not SharePoint friendly.

symmetric key protected by a password

An alternative could be using a symmetric key protected by a password, as long as your application generates the CREATE SYMMETRIC KEY and OPEN SYMMETRIC KEY statements directly instead of calling them inside a SP (otherwise the password will still be passed as a parameter, and will be in clear in the profiler).

Use Membership but bypass / disable password usage for users

I have an application that does LDAP authentication. The authentication is done on the code behind page of my Login.aspx page. Once the user passes LDAP authentication, a cookie is set and I redirect:

FormsAuthentication.RedirectFromLoginPage(UserName.Text, False)

I would like to setup membership in my application and keep track of some user information. But due to company security requirements, I cannot store user passwords on my application. That must stay on the LDAP server only.

Is there a way to store users but disable password storage on the aspnet_membership table?
