Enabling Session State in SharePoint 2010?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 19, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I have a web service built for SharePoint 2007 that I am trying to port to SharePoint 2010. This web service is dependent on session state to function properly, but so far, I have been enable to get session state to work at all in SharePoint 2010. This web service runs as its own web application under t he /_vti_bin virtual directory. I have tried all of the following with no luck:

  • Ensured the "State Service" service application is running.
  • Added the System.Web.SessionState.SessionStateModule http module to my application's web.config file.
  • Added the System.Web.SessionState.SessionStateModule http module to my SharePoint root web.config file.
  • Added <pages enableSessionState="true" /> to my application's web.config file.
  • Added <pages enableSessionState="true" /> to my root web.config file.
Additional Environment info:
  • Visual Studio 2008 - SP1
  • .NET 3.5 - SP1
  • SharePoint 2010 - RC
  • Windows Server 2008 R2
  • ASMX web service (not WCF)

Had anyone had any luck getting a web application or web service to use session state in SharePoint 2010 yet?

Thanks!

Steve

I'm developing Visual Studio 2010 solution for site pages. I’ve created Site Pages in SharePoint 2010 and I’m trying to access Session variables in code behind in ASP.NET but it throws the following error.

Session state can only be used when enableSessionState is set to true, either in a configuration file or in the Page directive. Please also make sure that System.Web.SessionStateModule or a custom session state module is included in the <configuration>\<system.web>\<httpModules> section in the application configuration.

I set the page directive as enableSessionState=&quo

SharePoint 2010 - The license state for the current server doesn't match the farm's license state.

I already have a SharePoint 2010 server built, up and running. Yesterday I built a brand new server Windows 2008 and installed all necessary windows updates. Then I joined the server to the domain where the other SharePoint 2010 box is. Today, I installed all necessary pre-requisites for SharePoint 2010 including the KB971831. After that I installed SharePoint 2010 binaries on the new server. When I run the configuration wizard now, it sees the database server with the configuration database, but will not allow me to join the new server to the farm. I get the following error in the diagnostic logs. Upgrade Sharepoint 2007 Custom State Machine/Sequential workflow to SharePoint 2010

Hello,

What's the path for upgrading the SharePoint 2007 Custom State Machine/Sequential workflow to SharePoint 2010 when the current SharePoint 2007 environment is upgraded to SharePoint 2010 by an inplace upgrade?

What's the typical estimate time for upgrading SP2007 custom workflow to SP2010 custom workflow?  My gut says 40 to 80 hrs or even less than that, what’s your thoughts?

FYI...I tried to upgrade the SharePoint custom workflow built using visual studio 2008 in SP2007 environment to visual studio 2010 solution/project in SP2010 environment, I got the error messages to refer the following dll's

Microsoft.SharePoint.dll and Microsoft.SharePoint.WorkflowActions.dll

Even after referring the new dlls still the workflow design doesn't show up in the canvas...still work on this to fix mean while want to know the experts insights on this.

application pool recycle fails when any session alive with claims sharepoint 2010

Hi,

I'm having once interesting (or annoying probably) in my SharePoint environment.

To give you the context of my environment.

I've SharePoint 2010 Farm.

One web application configured as claims (with extended web set to internet zone)

Extended web is enabled to have custom membership provider - that is integrated with CRM system (so, i don't have default sql membership database schema and it's also without any roles provider).

Now, this webapplication is running under one application pool (ofcourse), that's schedule to recycle every night.

Now, in order to simulate this issues that i'm having. I'm reseting this recycle issue. Rescheduling this causes application pool to recycle (default behavior - it goes well). But when scheduled recycle occurs, i'm getting many errors in event log and IIS logs).

Event Log (2 errors):

Enabling SharePoint 2007 Workflows in Office 2010

A few of us on site have upgraded to Office 2010, yet we're still doing workflows in MOSS 2007.  To start an Approval workflow, we used to click the Office button in the top left corner and selected Workflow in the dropdown list, but this option is completely gone in Office 2010.  How do we enable SharePoint 2007 workflows in Office 2010?
More specifically, when we go to Microsoft Excel 2010's File menu and select Save & Send, below the File Types options we should have an additional "Workflows" option enabled showing Approval, Collect Feedback, and Collect Signatures.

Enabling Users to Maintain SharePoint Content

When SharePoint is installed as a corporate intranet, there is a considerable amount of effort involved in maintaining the content to keep the site relevant. As we discussed in the first few parts of this series, SharePoint has many built-in features to reduce the burden on the site administrator.

Some areas of the site usually contain less-dynamic information. Internal memos and corporate policies are common examples of this information. One option for this information is to post these documents in a document library. Documents in a library are often stored in a few different formats: Word, Acrobat (PDF), or HTML. Each of these formats has its drawbacks.

Short Overview of SharePoint Features in Visual Studio 2010

As you probably know, Visual Studio 2010 was announced earlier this week and it contains a lot of cool features and project templates for SharePoint developers. Below is a short overview for some of the SharePoint development related features and project templates.

How to get more information about the exceptions that can happen in SharePoint 2010 projects?

In case there is an exception anywhere in the SharePoint 2010 project (most common place an exception would happen is during deployment of your SharePoint project, custom deployment configuration or custom deployment steps), there's a registry key EnableDiagnostics available for you to use.
