Unique Permission on every individual item in a SharePoint Form Library can result in very slow perf

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 19, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi All,

I just want to know that can sharePoint performance become slow by assigning unique permission on every individual item ? I have a form library in which there are hundreds of items and every item has unique permissions.

FYI: I read the following blogs and they are of the opinion that SharePoint performance can become horribly slow by assigning unique permissions

URL 1: http://sharepointbergen.blogspot.com/2008/09/sharepoint-2007-item-level-security.html

URL 2: http://weblogs.asp.net/erobillard/archive/2008/09/11/sharepoint-security-hard-limits-and-recommended-practices.aspx

Any help in this regard will be greatly appreciated..

On New Item form, select item on choice dropdown based on query result.

I posted this on Experts Exchange awhile back with no answer, so here's hoping someone here has an idea :)

So I've mostly figured this problem out, but I need some help in getting over the hump... note that I'm using JavaScript to do this (SPServices) on SharePoint 07'.

I'm on the New Items page of a list. Based on a user's selection in a "Teacher" dropdown, I'm doing the following:

1.) Get the value of the Teacher field and several other fields (School and Visit Date)
2.) Run a CAML query based on those fields to find the last list item entered for that Teacher

So here's where I'm stuck...

I have 10 choice fields, all with choices 0, 4, 7, and 10. Depending on what they were set to in the last entered item (which I queried), I want to set the selected item on each of those dropdowns to equal that. So "Score 1" was set to "4" on the la

Infopath Brower enabled form not visible in the sharepoint library after being submitted

Hi, I have created a infopath browser enabled form to submit to a sharepoint form library, however the submitted forms are not visible in the sharepoint link structure.   I'm able to see them in the SPD structure.  I'm using infopath 2007 and MOSS. I actually created a SPD workflow which retrieves specific values from the submitted form and saves it to another sharepoint list. This works fine even if the forms are not visible. Appreciate any help. Thanks

InfoPath Form not showing up in Sharepoint Form Library

I have set up a template form setup that users can fill out and then by pressing the submit button sends an email. My current issue is, when I publish the form to sharepoint, I don't see it, I have sharepoint set to view all documents and I still don't see it.  I can get to the form by clicking the "view my form in browser" pop up after I'm done publishing it.  I would like the users to just be able to click on a link in the library, but I can't find where it was published.Any insight on this would be great thanks.

Updating an InfoPath Form Library Template breaks preexisting SharePoint List Views

When updating an InfoPath template (e.g. adding a new field), any views I have created on the library lose their filters and sorting, as if the columns on which they were built no longer exist.  Has anyone else encountered this and, if so, is there a solution? V/r Noelle

InfoPath 2007 - Publishing Creates multiple columns on SharePoint Form Library (GUIDS apparently are

I have been working this issue for 2 days now.  This has happened to me in the past and I was able to work through it.  It doesn't appear that this time I am going to be so lucky. Issue Description: When publishing an InfoPath form a new column is created that has the same name as the correct one, but a new GUID is created. Troubleshooting steps: I have read this article: http://www.delphi-ts.com/blogs/lozzi/post/2009/06/03/Duplicate-site-columns-in-MOSS-from-InfoPath-Forms.aspx   This was the solution the last time I had this problem.  However, no matter what I do, it is not working now.  I have a column named User Name which is the username of the person that submitted the InfoPath form for use with my Visual Studio workflow.  When the workflow kicks off, it reads this column and attempts to get the value.  The value is blank because a new column with the name User Name now exists and that is where the value is stored.  I attempted to fix it by remapping the GUIDs as described in the article.  I also reverted the code to a previous version from TFS.  None of these worked.   I now have 3 columns called User Name and I can remap the GUID to the second column and third column.  But when I try to map it to the first column (the one I need) it doesn't work. The first column that is circled is the correct column.

Add a New Item to a Custom Sharepoint List and Sharepoint Calendar from one Infopath form.

I am trying to create an infopath form for requesting time off.  Once the request is approved I want the form to add the event to a calendar on sharepoint.  I was able to do this using the article by S.Y.M. Wong-A-Ton at http://www.bizsupportonline.net/infopath2007/programmatically-add-item-sharepoint-calendar-infopath.htm.  But I want the form to also add an item to a custom list that has the employees available time off stored on it.  That way the form can automatically subtract the time entered on the infopath form from what is available on the custom list.  I was able to do this using another article by S.Y.M. Wong-A-Ton at  http://www.bizsupportonline.net/infopath2007/programmatically-add-rich-text-item-sharepoint-list-infopath.htm.  I can make both of these functions happen seperately but I need them to happen on the same Infopath form.  I am using Infopath and MOSS 2007.  I have tried to use 2 CAML receive data files and I treid to co

Sharepoint Server 2007 Document Library permission question

How to Get and Set Version of InfoPath Form in SharePoint Form Library from Infopath Codebehind

Want to know how to Get or Set the Version for the new/existing InfoPath Form 2007 in the SharePoint Form Library.  Actually I am submitting InfoPath Form to SharePoint Form Libraries on the fly.  Want to set the Version of new form to 1.0 and then increment by 0.1 every time when the user edits and save the form back to the form library.  When the existing form is opened for editing, I need to get the current latest version of that form in the form library.

It is very urgent.  Any help or pointers for this requirement would be appreciated.  If anyone of you have handled such scenario in your projects, please share the code snippet with me.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Avoid Opening two instance of Infopath Form which is published to Sharepoint Library

Hi Everyone,

It would be great if anyone of you answer my question.I have an info path form built in 2007 and published it to share point as a document library. My requirement is i should not allow two instance of the same Form to be opened at the same Time.I mean if you open a form from Share point and If you try to open the next one without closing the previous Form,it should give an alert to user saying that the "Form is already Opened".

I tried like having a Boolean variable which is by default false. If i try to open for the 1st time it should make it as true and for the next time if we refer to that variable and make an alert. But it dint work. Please let me know by anyway i can do this task.Your help will be greatly appreciated!!!!

SharePoint Designer Crash when trying to add a New Item Form

I am running WSS 3.0 on a Windows 2008 Server 64bit.  This runs our intranet which has been going for about 6 months.  I have used SharePoint Designer 2007 to make basic edits to pages.

SPD2007 has been crashing when I do the following:

I created a links list called 'Tester Links'.  I created a new .aspx page in SharePoint Designer 2007, linked it to the default master page then inserted a 'Data View'.  I chose 'Tester Links' from Data Source details then clicked Show Data.  I selected a couple of fields, went to 'Insert Selected Fields As' and chose 'New Item Form'.

SharePoint Designer 2007 then crashes with the error 'Microsoft SharePoint Designer has stopped working'

I tried creating a new Web Application and site collection, then created a new links list however still the same crashing.

I tried using SPD2007 on both the server that WSS is on and my own client machine.  I have also logged in as myself (domain admin) and the administrator however I still can't create a new item form!

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your help.
