Write Custom WebParts for SharePoint 2007

The popularity of SharePoint Portal Server 2003 led Microsoft to tightly integrate the next SharePoint version, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007, with its ASP.NET 2.0 WebPart framework. This tight integration enables the ASP.NET and SharePoint developer to do a number of things that previously weren't possible

Help me with webParts

I added WebPartManager to my default.aspx and i get   teh following Message :

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

SQLExpress database file auto-creation error:

The connection string specifies a local Sql Server Express instance using a database location within the applications App_Data directory. The provider attempted to automatically create the application services database because the provider determined that the database does not exist. The following configuration requirements are necessary to successfully check for existence of the application services database and automatically create the application services database:

  1. If the applications App_Data directory does not already exist, the web server account must have read and write access to the applications directory. This is necessary because the web server account will automatically create the App_Data directory

Propagate Error Info: Use ATL and C++ to Implement Error-Handling COM Objects

Predefined error codes returned from HRESULT aren't always much help for debugging COM C++ code. The C++ macros provided with this article produce an XML file listing the error and its context to make debugging easier. This article begins with an overview of error handling in COM, then discusses the COM interfaces used in the macros. It explains how C++ exceptions are caught and converted to COM-compatible error information, how events are logged with the event viewer, and how context is reported in the description string of IErrorInfo. The macros handle logic errors and errors returned by an object or API.

pre populating webparts

hi,

i m wanting to know if it is possible to pre populate content within a webpart so the user only has to add the web part to the page, and not make any configurations changes.

What i am trying to achieve is with the image web part and pre loading this with an image which is hyper linked to another of our systems

Could you let me know if this is possible and if so how i go about doing this.

user control derived from System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts only fires its OnPreRender and CreateCh

 I have a application which uses webparts.

So my user controls are derived from System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts which makes them webparts.

I have everything setup and working fine as far as the personalization and webpart goes... every thing displays and works fine.

Except that 1 of my control needs to do a bit of work in the OnPreRender event and it turns out that event only gets fired when a user is loged in the application.

So lets imagine that an administrator while logged in switched to 'Sharedscope' within the webpartmanager and then has added the usercontrol/webpart 'calendar' to the top webpart zone. This then makes the 'calendar' control viewable by all and any user who visits the page wheter logged in or anonymous.

And this works fine and very well as it is supposed to. However in the 'Calendar' user control which is derived from System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts I have an overiden 'OnPreRender' event like this:

Protected Overrides Sub OnPreRender(ByVal e As EventArgs)

If Not Me.DesignMode Then

Me.isloaded = True

' Test for ScriptManager and register if it exists

sm = ScriptManager.GetCurrent(Page)

If sm Is Nothing Then _

Throw New HttpException("A ScriptManager control must exist on the current page.")

Problem changing/upgrading properties on WebParts that have already been deployed and added to Share

I have created two custom webparts which I deploy as a Feature within a Solution.  These webparts have been added to various pages on my site.  Due to design changes, I upgraded the webparts with some new functionality and some other changes to the webpart properties, such as the WebPart title, title icon and catalog icon.  After I have retracted/deleted the old solution and re-deployed the new solution (and activated the feature) the webparts have been upgraded fine, however, the webpart properties were not changed for any webparts that were already added to pages.  I can add new instances of the webparts and they have the updated properties (and also show correctly in the wp gallery and catalog). Is there a step I am missing in order to upgrade any webparts (namely the properties) that have already been added to pages?  Or is this something I have to take care of programmatically somehow to workaround the upgrade problem?

How to set the variation root redirect page to ALWAYS go to a preset label?

Hi. I have setup variations and I have 4 labels, SE EN FI DK. This is a public website and I want every visitor to first be directed to the predetermined label, for example SE. This no matter what setting they have in their browser... In Sweden, most people have English as the language in the browser since this gets you better content in most places, but in this case, it gets them the EN label instead of the SE label as default. How can I change this in the best way possible? Are there any easily adaptable solutions available? Like on codeplex? The MSDN way is not to my liking, manually customize every front end or compile my own DLL....Noo, there has to be a better way right? (How to: Customize the Variations Label Control Logic http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms551625.aspx) Appreciate any help you can give me on this. Variation Hierarchies Creation Failed

I have setup a new SharePoint 2010 farm with the following hotfixes installed: KB 2028568, KB 983319, KB 983497, KB 2281364, KB 2124512, KB 2204024.
