Variation Label disapear when a navigate site

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 19, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi there,

I have an existing site that I converted to a multi-lingual site.

I created an English source variation, next i create another variation (Portuguese) and ran the Create Hierarchies. Everything fine..

When i browse to my homepage, variations work and assume the variationlabel, ex: http://mysite/en-US/pages/default.aspx or http://mysite/pt-PT/paginas/default.aspx, but when i click in same kind of link for another page, my variation label simply disappear.. ex: http://mysite/pages/samepage.aspx.

The event click return a relative link, ex: /pages/samepage.aspx.

Someone can help me find a solution!?

Tkz in advance.

Is it possible to configure an existing sub site as variation source label in 2010?

Hi, I am trying to configure variations on an existing site. For example, I already have a site collection and a sub site "en-us" that has all the content. Would it be possible to configure this existing "en-us" as my variation source site? If not possible, can anyone suggest me any work-around? This is very critical and hopefully there is a way to achieve this without having to move all the content from "en-us" to my top level site, create variation labels with different names, and then delete the content from top-level site. Please suggest. Thanks, Karthik

Variation label in a page layout and Translated Columns

Can any body elaborate on this two terms in publishing sites.

1: Variation label in a page layout

When i edit the page layout from browser interface of publishing site with variation, there is one field called "Variation" where user

have to select the variation label from a list.

2: Translated Columns

Don't know what is this, i try to google a lot but not found any information.

Thanks in advance

How to set the variation root redirect page to ALWAYS go to a preset label?

Hi. I have setup variations and I have 4 labels, SE EN FI DK. This is a public website and I want every visitor to first be directed to the predetermined label, for example SE. This no matter what setting they have in their browser... In Sweden, most people have English as the language in the browser since this gets you better content in most places, but in this case, it gets them the EN label instead of the SE label as default. How can I change this in the best way possible? Are there any easily adaptable solutions available? Like on codeplex? The MSDN way is not to my liking, manually customize every front end or compile my own DLL....Noo, there has to be a better way right? (How to: Customize the Variations Label Control Logic http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms551625.aspx) Appreciate any help you can give me on this. Publishing Variation source site

Hello, I'm kinda in a loop using Variations 2010. Thanks in advance if some one could through some light >>>

After I create variation heirarchy in a site collection: I have 2 folders like English and French. I created a publishing wiki site under English which is my source. When I add some custom content and click on publish it showing 2 options 1) Update 2) Create. When Click on Update it shows successfully updated and when I click on Create - showing ERROR: variation is not enable on site. Essentially I have 2 questions: if I use Update - what is happening behind? like is it creating a french site under French folder or wating for timer job (which I set 1min). 2nd question: If click on Create: does it creates new site under french folder? No superb article out on steps! any advice - appriciated.

How can I make WebBrowser to navigate 1st site and then 2nd site?

I tried next C# code.

I want to make webBrowser1 (WebBrowser control) to load Yahoo web page fully (display full Yahoo web page), and then load Google web page.

But, with the code above, WebBrowser control displays Google web page only.

So, I tried following C# code.

ListData.svc REST API can't navigate relationship to lookup list in parent site

I have created a list in the root web that contains common information used by multiple sites throughout the site collection.  I have also created a site column that is a lookup column which pulls from that list.  This way, I can add the site column to any list in any sub site in the site collection.

I have a list in a sub site in the same site collection that I have added the root web site column to and, from the UI perspective, everything works great.  I can add a list item to the sub site list and select an item from the root web list for that column.

However, if I generate a strongly typed data context and associated classes using a Visual Studio service reference to ListData.svc (or if I just play around with the REST XML in the browser), the class property which represents the lookup column in the sub site list only contains the ID of the lookup item, not a reference to an instance of the item.

I understand that the experience getting list information from a different site is usually less than optimal but are there any workarounds to get a reference to that lookup list item via the REST API?

Variation site: publishing pages

Hopefully some one will have solution. I have a source publishing site A. where I have bunch of webparts, contents, documents. Now once I publish, all the content propagates with few exception like: 1) items in document library 2) images 3) Note board to name a few. any work around.... and the other thing, how the partial page updates works? as propagate only those items have changed in source page. bcz people dont want to customize target sites each time when they publish from source right?

Changing the graphics on the home page of a SharePoint site

When you create a site in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services by using the default Team Site template, the home page includes two default graphics. A Windows SharePoint Services graphic appears in the body of the page, and a picture of a house in a circle appears near the site title. You can change these graphics to customize your site. Changing the smaller graphic requires a Windows SharePoint Services compatible Web page editor

Take a tour of your SharePoint site

What is a SharePoint site for?
A SharePoint site is a Web site that provides a central storage and collaboration space for documents, information, and ideas. A SharePoint site is a tool for collaboration, just like a telephone is a tool for communication, or a meeting is a tool for decision making. A SharePoint site helps groups of people (whether work teams or social groups) share information and work together. For example, a SharePoint site can help you:

Coordinate projects, calendars, and schedules.
Discuss ideas and review documents or proposals.
Share information and keep in touch with other people.

Six easy ways to customize your site using Web Parts in SharePoint

Becoming familiar with Web Part customization techniques gives you a range of page-customization choices. For example, you can customize your site's home page so that it displays the specific information that your team needs. You can rearrange the list items on the home page, add lists, and even change the images on the home page. As you become more familiar with Web Part Page customization techniques, you can build interactive Web Part Pages that makes the data in lists more dynamic and useful, and you can add new Web Parts that provide access to external data and Web services.

Tips to Improve Your ASP.NET Web site performance

ASP.NET has been developed with lots of features which makes developer life easy. Start from ViewState, PostBack, Server Controls , User Controls and etc. All of them can make your web development experience fun and easy, but improper use of them can cause your site performance slowdown. Most of the controls generate overhead to the client and server. Therefore in this article, I I will list out about things you can do and don't to improve your ASP.NET website performance.

SharePoint Application and Site Pages - Part 1 of 2

In this first part of the two part series, Steven covers the differences between Site and Application pages in SharePoint 2007, why each may be used in various circumstances, and prepares for the construction of a menu located application page. After a brief introduction he examines the concept of Site Pages and Application Pages separately in detail with supported screenshots.

SharePoint Application and Site Pages - Part 2 of 2

As the second article in a two part series, Steven examines the attributes and details of a SharePoint 2007 application page, including the construction and feature deployment of the same page based project. Since this is a WSS level objective, as opposed to MOSS, you will not need MOSS to work with the code included in this project. Windows Server 2003, WSS, and Visual Studio 2005 are all that is needed, with no additional add-ons. He provides a detailed analysis of each step involved in the creation and deployment of the project.

Otherwise my developers has to do donkey work.... :(( and I don't wish it.
