hard code app.config settings in class

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 19, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Hi,

I wonder how to hard code the configuration below in a class. I have a case where I cannot use app.config (due to creation of dll).  The code below is probably not enough..any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

ContractDescription contract = new ContractDescription("Common.MyInterfaces.IConnector");

Binding binding = new NetTcpBinding();

binding.Name = "net.tcp.binding";

EndpointAddress endPointAddress = new EndpointAddress("net.tcp://localhost:9001/Connector");

ServiceEndpoint serviceEndpoint = new ServiceEndpoint(contract, binding, endPointAddress);

app.config

<configuration>

Hard Code Roles on the Pages

If i hard coded role=Manager on the specific SiteMap/Folder/Page/etc. I will have problem when the manager need to remove from access a specific page. I need to change the code ont eh page/SiteMap/Folder more move the file into another folder.

What i have in mind is to change the role to taks oriented. such as role=AddStock, Edit Stock, Delete Stock, Print DO, Add Sales, Edit Sales, Deleted Sales..... (but it will be many role for 1 user compare to just 1 as Manager)

Will this cause performance issues later when each user have 60 roles and if i have 20,000 user will it affect the application performance?

Otherwise any other option? to make it flexible.

Protect It: Safeguard Database Connection Strings and Other Sensitive Settings in Your Code

Protecting application secrets, such as database connection strings and passwords, requires careful consideration of a number of pertinent factors such as how sensitive the data is, who could gain access to it, how to balance security, performance, and maintainability, and so forth. This article explains the fundamentals of data protection and compares a variety of techniques that can be used to protect application settings. The author discusses what to avoid, such as hiding keys in source code and the use of Local Security Authority. In addition, he presents some effective solutions such as the Data Protection API.

Writing connection string in web.config file by code or dynamically

I want to write connection string in web.config file of my application by code. If anyone know the way or code just help me..NET,C#,SQL SERVER

Can I put all my sql in the web.config instead of my code behind?

I'm making the switch from vb.net to C#.  And with that, I want to move away from using sql datasources in the aspx page, and put the code to execute my sql statements "where it should be".  Only thing is, I don't know where exactly that is.  Basically, there are a three or four stored procedures that a page of this small website may need execute per page.    Instead of putting all this in the code behind of the first page, and then copy/paste similar in other pages, I'd like to put it all together in one spot and then have each page "call" as needed.  Problem is, I just don't know where/how this should be to do this the proper way.  I'm trying to learn a better way of coding this...    protected void getSectionContent()    {SqlConnection conn = default(SqlConnection);        SqlCommand comm = default(SqlCommand);        SqlDataReader reader = default(SqlDataReader);        string connectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["abc"].ConnectionString;        conn = new SqlConnection(connectionString);        comm = new SqlCommand();   &n

Using web.config settings in a

Hi there,

I understand that one can specify a connection string in an <asp:SqlDataSource /> tag, like so:

<asp:SqlDataSource ID="sds" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:LiveConnectionString %>" SelectCommand="SELECT Col1 FROM MyTable"></asp:SqlDataSource>

Is there a similar way to specify the table used in the SELECT command?  The following doesn't work for me:

<asp:SqlDataSource ID="sds" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:LiveConnectionString %>" SelectCommand="SELECT Col1 FROM <%$ AppSettings:NewContentsListSQLTable %>"></asp:SqlDataSource>

I see from a previous post (http://forums.asp.net/p/1325626/2646097.aspx) that it's possible to set parameter values from web.config settings, so I'd hope you could specify the table (or columns etc.) as well!

All advice gratefully received.

Extending Page class in XAML and code-behind

I have several XAML "Page"s for which I would like to pull the facets that are in common together into a Page class extension I am calling ACPage. I must be missing some essential piece of knowledge, although I think I am pretty close. Can someone tell me what I am missing? I am learning C#, XAML, .NET, etc. all simultaneously.

I get the following warning:
Warning 1 'Al_Cr.PageWelcome.InitializeComponent()' hides inherited member 'Al_Cr.ACPage.InitializeComponent()'. Use the new keyword if hiding was intended. D:\Projects\Al Cr\Al Cr\Al Cr\obj\x86\Release\PageWelcome.g.cs 50 21 Al Cr

and this error:
Error 2 'Al_Cr.ACPage' cannot be the root of a XAML file because it was defined using XAML. Line 1 Position 15. D:\Projects\Al Cr\Al Cr\Al Cr\PageWelcome.xaml 1 15 Al Cr

The warning points to the auto-generated PageWelcome.InitializeComponent() function definition. The error points to the end of the bolded text, below.

My ACPage.xaml & ACPage.xaml.cs is defined thusly:

<Page x:Class="Al_Cr.ACPage"
      xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"
      xmlns:x="

Convert user.config to database storage via my custom settings provider

Hi,

I've created my own custom settings provider to save user settings (formerly in the user.config) to a database. To point the particular settings that are to be saved to the database I specified

[SettingsProvider(typeof(BlobSettingsProvider))]
for each property to point to the BlobSettingsProvider instead of allowing them to default to the LocalFileSettingsProvider.
Now I need to convert existing user.configs to save to the database on the fly - a one time conversion. Because I've now specified the properties to use the BlobSettings provider they can no longer access the local user.config.
Does anyone have any thoughts on how best to accomplish this conversion (i.e. read the local user.config and populate the BlobSettingsProvider). The app can be run as a ClickOnce installed app or as a simple .net app - finding the correct local user.config looks to be a problem.
Thoughts, ideas,...?
Thanks,
Glenn

Can I "hard-code" a particular report in the report viewer web part?

Hi there,

I am wondering if it is possible to "hard-code" a particular report in the report viewer web part, such that this report is automatically loaded when a user visits a particular site. I am asking that question because I do not want to select the same report each time I want to view it; I just would like to have a link that will get me the report right away.

Best wishes

Encrypt App.config for SMTP settings

Hi all,

I need to encrypt SMTP settings in the app.config file.I also read MSDN article that uses RSA also to encrypt/decrypt.
This is my code:

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Linq;
using System.Text;
using System.Configuration;

namespace EncryptionDecryptionCA
{
  public class Program
  {
    private static void ProtectConfiguration()
    {
      // Get the application configuration file.
      Configuration config = ConfigurationManager.OpenExeConfiguration(ConfigurationUserLevel.None);

      // Define the Rsa provider name.
      string provideRsa = "RsaProtectedConfigurationProvider";

First WCF Connection Slow and Proxy Settings in app.config file

Hi,

I'm new to the WCF and currently facing problems with my first connection to a service we created to connect an Excel OBA to SAP. The first connection is extremely slow, approximately 20 seconds, but once it is establish everything goes really quick afterwards. I've read through some posts and seems like the proxy settings could have an impact. I'm pasting the code of my app.config file below, can you please let me know how I should modify it to include proper proxy settings to improve the first connection?

Also, the proxy thing is just a guess, is there anything else I could do to improve this? Any hint would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot!
Martin

Reconnect WCF klient useing app.config settings

Hi,

I have a webservice with a reconnect button in the client. I'd like to implement the reconnect function. I have seen a lot of example how to reconnect but all of them implements it with setting the endpoint and everything in the code.

When open my client it uses the app.config settings to open the WCF channel. Actually I'm not a developer so I don't really understand how. I just instantiating my implemented webservice class and it do the job itself.

Is it possible to reopen channel / reconnect using the app.config settings without setting everything in code? Or do I have to set in the code every parameter?

Thanks

regards

I am using VS 2010 Ultimate.  It is not remembering my setup when opening .xaml files.  It is very annonying.  I  am pretty sure VS remembers things like that.

I prefer to load my .xaml file to see the code only.  So I usually minimize the design tab.  However, I have to do this every time I open a .xaml file.

I am getting the feeling this setting is stored at the .sln level, which is even more annonying, it should be global setting for all VS sessions.

Any advice?

How to deny user with c# code instead of setting web.config?

Hi, I have some pages that need user to sign in. If not, I need to redirect user to signin page. I know this can be done by using some code like"<system.web><authorization><deny users="?"/></authorization></system.web>" in web.config.

But can I just write some code to do the same function?

like in page load method, I can check whether user is sign in, if user is not signed in yet, how can I redirect user to the login page by using code? and how can I stop sending the content of the page to user?

Can anyone teach me about this?

Thanks!
