Get Users by Profile Information

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 19, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I am useing asp.net membership to store my users and under each users profile there is a field for their supervisor. I would like to get a list of all the users with the supervisor "Jon Doe". Is there an easy way to do this or would I just have to loop through each user and see if there supervisor = "Jon Doe" then if it is store there username in a list ?

Iterate through profile information

I have a site I'm working on where the values being stored in user profiles can change so I need to iterate through all available profile options and display them (say in a label or gridview for instance).

Here is an example of a web.config I threw together

<profile enabled="true">
        <group name="Demographics">
        <add name="FirstName" type="String"/>
        <add name="LastName" type="String"/>

FBA users (ldap provider) don't have any user profile info when logged in.... what am I doing wrong

Sharepoint 2010, Claims authentication, FBA using ldap membership provider and role provider against Active Directory.  User profiles all imported just fine -- used the LDAP FBA provider hitting Active Directory to do so too.  whenever an FBA user logs in, it doesn't seem like sharepoint is picking up any user attributes.  targeted audiences don't work and MY SETTINGS is blank other than account and name.  If the same user logs in but through Active Directory, everything works just fine... targeted audiences, etc. Am I doing something wrong or can I not use the LDAP provider to authenticate to AD and also use the user profiles from Sharepoint?  GRRRRR.  All this to get around the Windows Authentication popup so I can customize a better looking logon experience.  Help?

users are known in user profile, but not in security

Hi all, I am having this weird issue here: SP2010 was working fine, user profile sync and claims-based security on the web app. Now, with no clear reason, it cannot find users anymore on the security part. People search still works, but I cannot add users on SharePoint to log in. Strange thing is: if I type half a username, it still resolves the full name, but it has a red stripe underneath it as a sign that it does not recognize the user. So it can find the name of the user, but it cannot add it to SharePoint.   Once more, the user profile sync is working great and I can find users on people search.   Any thoughts ?

What are the options to get information from anonymous users in sharepoint ?

2) I tried useing list form, sharepoint workflow doesnt work also it shows view all site contents & throughs an error when anonymous user submit the list form but i can see item in allitem.aspx

i cant use the form based authentication, beacuase form itself an request for account password & we dont want users to register again

Regarding Editing the user profile Information in MOSS

Hi All,

            I have very interesting situation over here and unable to understand what is going on behind the scene. There are two senarios as follows

1) Production server that host the site restored from old WSS on the MOSS---- when i go to the Peoples and Group and click on the user name and then click on the edit profile I am presented with the from where i can edit the profile information but according to the theory this should not happen if MY Site is Enabled

2) Production server that host the fresh site on MOSS--- when i go to the Peoples and Group and click on the user name and then on the edit profile I am presented with the page that contains the domain name and user name means i cannot edit the profile as expected according to theory.

Both the server are two different WFE but has the same databse server. Please help me to solve this mistry.

Profile synchronization problem - can successfully import single users but not from a group - can yo

I can successfully import a single user into SharePoint 2010 from AD (proves settings permissions are correct) and the number of user profiles increases and I can locate the user including profile data from active Directory. But when I try to import an Active Directory global security group no users get migrated. In fact the single users profile gets deleted.

Can somebody explain whether it is possible to migrate users into SharePoint 2010 from with security groups in Active Directory?

Also when I retried to import the group of users it deleted the single user that I had successfully imported, I didn’t think this was possible, I ran an incremental synchronization, i need to import roughly 2000 users and was going to do it in stages to make sure all users were imported but if the process can remove users then each sync run could be adding users and removing users, how will I ever keep track?

Below is the synchronization run report, are there logs files that could give me more information?

Restoring a content database from another server/AD does not synch user profile information for new

In my SharePoint 2010 beta environment, I have user profiles synching with Active Directory.  I just restored a content database from a separate environment/domain and logged in with my current account.  When I try to create an alert on a library/item, I get the error:

“You do not have an e-mail address.  Alert has been created successfully but you will not receive notifications until valid e-mail or mobile address has been provided in your profile.”

I went to My Profile and found that the My Profile had the right e-mail address (I guess because this is on my My Site Host).

But when I went to My Settings, it did not have any e-mail address for me (I guess this is because it is at the WSS content database level and the e-mail address hasn’t yet synched from the user profile database).

Does anyone the timer job that synchs the user profile with the My Settings for a site collection in a content database?

Issue is posted to my blog with screenshots here:

hide or show CheckBoxList depending on Users logged in profile??

New users can register on my site by completing a basic form that has the create user

wizard control with some additional information i am collecting using a CheckBox List.

They can then log in to the site and and view "MypProfilePage.aspx" where I

display the information with the CheckBoxList boxes already ticked based

their selections which they can update.

My problem is I have two levels of User and each one has a different registration form.

Registration Form A

Has 20 Items in the CheckBox List

Registration Form B

Has 10 items in the CheckBox List

On the Profile Page, I just want to show the  CheckBox which is relevant to the Registration form A or B and with selections by the  registered user.

So therefore the User who registered on B will not be able to see the selections checkbox list for A.

I hope this makes sense and appreciate any solutiosn in c sharp ideally.

My profile -- grant permission to other to edit the information

I would like to know if one can grant permission to another person to edit "My Profile" or "My Site"? That is certain people will be able to edit my profile and do various things as if the person iteself.

Thanks in advance.

Missing profile pics for some users in Group lists

For some reason, most of the profile pics that people upload don't appear in Group lists.  The profile imagine appears just fine in My Site/My Profile, as well as in the Search Center, but we just see the default picture placeholder image for them in a Group list.  There are a few users, though, whose images appear just fine in all locations.

Not sure where to look...  any pointers?

Unable to get AD profile information using InfoPath form in Sharepoint 2007 browser mode

I have followed the threads on this but haven't been able to resolve the issue with any of the suggestions provided.  I need to get the user's first and last name from their profile.  I created an InfoPath form using the "Get current user without writing code" blog directions I ran across here, using the standard userprofileservice.asmx service.  Everything works fine so long as I don't use the SharePoint browser option.  Then I get the error:

An error occurred accessing a data source.
An entry has been added to the Windows event log of the server.

Log ID:5566

I have attacked this from every angle I can think of:

IE, Design checker - OK, SSP account, my account have AD read access, no problems getting to the site collection, as stated before, runs fine if I don't use the browser option

Converted the connection to a udcx stored in the same site as the form library - tried both converted and unconverted connection - same problem, removed the connection altogether, everything works fine (but, of course, no profile info), works under InfoPath using either connection

Set form with Domain trust

Published it to a form library, also tried admin approved with full trust and signed - same problem

Ran locally on SharePoint server and remotely - same problem

Installer guides users to the .NET 4.0 Client profile installer instead of the full .NET Installer

Our Windows 7 application is using the standard VS 2010 setup project and our deployment requires the full .NET 4.0 installation NOT the .NET client profile. The launch conditions of our setup specifes the .NET Framework 4, (not the .NET Framework 4 Client Profile). However on target systems that need .NET installed as a prequisite; the user is guided to the NET Framework 4 Client Profile rather than full download. The result is frustrating since most users don't know the difference so they install the client profile; reattempt the installation which still fails because the full .NET Framework never got installed.

Is there are workaround for this? Additionally is there any plan to have .NET 4 presinstalled on Windows 7 or devliverd by Windows Update?

Thanks in advance

On further inspection this occurs only when the installation is started from the msi installer. Setup.exe is OK. However any assistance on when full .NET 4 will be installed on Win 7 or pushed by the Windows update service would be appreciated

Strategy for saving information by thousand of users in a short time.

I am working on an application which will be like users will be working offline (most likely a window app) all day saving 10-50 rows of data on to a text file and at the end of the day when they come online they will be uploading the data to main sql server database using the app. There may be hundereds of users saving information at a time within a short span of 20-30 mins.

I am totally new to developing an application which has that amount of activity. Can anyone tell me the best possible strategy so as to avoid issue on concurrent saving in case of too many users. Will Sql Server 2005 will do ok or my app is likely to face any issue. Any errors that I might run in to.

 Any help is appreciated !
