SSIS Changing Column Order during Transformation

First let me say, I really can't believe this chain of events myself--and they are happening to me. I am upgrading several DTS packages to SSIS on what will be my new production server.  These packages create tables, export them to a flat file, and ftp them off to other locations. What is happening (on the SSIS side) is that the OLE DB Source is reordering some of the columns on its own (moving them to the end of the table/file.  Then when my pickup/load routines run, the data is out of place and they fail. Can anyone please explain what is happening here with the mapping.  I have evaluated the table and the columns are in the order that I expect.  When I preview the source table in the OLE DB Source Editor the columns are in the correct order/alignment, but when them in the OLE DB Source Editor --Columns section within BIDS the order is changed arbitrarily. I have been somewhat successful (2 out of 3) in being able to re-map the data, but this last table just doesn't want to change.  Thanks in advance for any help and/or information you can provide

changing font color on a data column field based on the contents

I am trying to change font color if the datafield has the string EMERGENCY. This is my original template field: <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Type" SortExpression="DigType"> <EditItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("DigType") %>' ></asp:Label> </EditItemTemplate> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("DigType") %>' ></asp:Label> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField>   and this is what I thought would work: <EditItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("DigType") %>' ForeColor='<%# IIf(Eval("DigType")="EMERGENCY","Black", "Red") %>'></asp:Label> </EditItemTemplate> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("DigType") %>' ForeColor='<%# IIf(Eval(&quo

Changing the binding for a GridView column

I have a gridview bound to a SQL Select statement. I want the binding of one of the columns to depend on one of the values in the database record. For example, say I have a SQL table containing FirstName, LastName, ShowFirstName.

I want a the Name column in my Gridview to be bound to FirstName if ShowFirstName is 1, and bound to LastName if ShowFirst Name is 0.

What's the easiest way to do that?

Gridview column changing visibility depending on a row.text

and im not getting the result i expected =\

Changing image in image button column in a datagridview

Just wondering if anyone has ever managed to find a way to have a
datagridview image button column in a template field which  display different images on different rows depending
on some data element in the row. Our application needs to display a series
of fees charged against an account column which will be either less then 500, 500 to 1000 or >1000. Some of those fees are charged at a full rate, others at a partial rate, and some are not charged at all. The user
would like to see a simple 3-state graphic which would convey the simple
info: full-charge, partial-charge, or no-charge. Sounds easy enough but
I've not yet managed to find a way to do this. Every time I attempt to
modify the individual cell's graphic it seems to want to change the graphic
for all the rows.

Any way around this issue?

Changing the column width in Transactional Replication

I changed  the column width on the publisher and all of sudden my replication failed saying unable to insert identity value.And finally I had to remove the article from the publisher.
How can I increase the column width of table without any impact  thats published as article in Transactional Replication?

Changing existing column types

Is there a proper way to change an OOTB column's data type?

Microsoft have created columns using nearly all the common column names but several of them are not the right type for our organisation. It will bequite a nuisence if we have to create new ones prefixed with something to make them unique.

Changing column Data Type when using merge replication: RFC on my SMO code.

I maintain an application for that uses SQL 2005 / 2008 for data persistence.
Some clients use Merge Replication (pull or push) to replicate data.

Some of the data the application stores should be "versioned". All versions of a row containing medical information should be stored, somewhere in a database. This means all updates and deletes to those rows should result in in 2 affected rows:

  • a copy of the row before the change
  • a row containing the change (or the deletion of the row in question)

I plan to achieve this using triggers on all the tables for wich "versioning" is required.
The old versions of a row may be stored in the same database, an other database (or a database on a linked server).

Unfortunalty, the AFTER UPDATE, DELETE triggers do not support TEXT, NTEXt an IMAGE data type columns.
Thus I am required to convert all text, ntext and image columns to their respective "new" data types, varchar(max), nvarchar(max) and varbinary(max).

This is not a big issue when the database is not published, but when it is... most articles (and posts) i've read suggest:

  1. Add a column of the target data type to the table, copy data from source column. rename columns and drop the source column.

  2. Create a temp table (with the s

Changing the graphics on the home page of a SharePoint site

When you create a site in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services by using the default Team Site template, the home page includes two default graphics. A Windows SharePoint Services graphic appears in the body of the page, and a picture of a house in a circle appears near the site title. You can change these graphics to customize your site. Changing the smaller graphic requires a Windows SharePoint Services compatible Web page editor

DataFormatString in a BoundField of a GridView

I had a simple little problem - the DataFormatString="{0:0}" in a BoundField was not working

Tooltip for GridView Column Headers (ASP.Net)

I just wanted to add auto tooltips for my GridView headers. There are couple of ways but I don't want to use javascript and wanted to use simple 'title' attribute. It took couple of hours to get the working code supporting sortable columns. I thought it will be very useful for others. Here's the code and logic behind it.

Multiple Column Dropdownlist for the ASP.NET DataGrid

Based on my previous control "Multiple Column DropDownList for ASP.NET", I received many emails asking for the same control to be used in the DataGrid for web applications. Here we go.. This control can be used as the regular MS DropDownList in the DataGrid and also as a regular dropdownlist. It has all the properties, like DataTextField, DataValueField, DataSource, SelectedIndex etc. The download file contains the samples both in VB.NET and C#. In this sample, I have used the Northwind database of SQL Server.

Convert English to Arabic number without changing any regional settings in .net

Well, most applications that I worked with was multilingual that supports English UI and Arabic UI.

And one of the major issue that we have faced is displaying Arabic numbers without the need of changing the regional settings of the PC.

So the code below will help you to display Arabic number without changing any regional settings.

Alternating row background for first column of a report

is there a way to make the first column of a report use the an alternating background color?

I have the background color set for the entire row however it does not work for the first column if the color is set to an expression.  If I just set it to a color i.e. red it works just fine. If I insert a dummy column to the left it works just fine (but the dummy column does not work, presumably because it is first??).

In the file below only the textbox for part number does not show an alternating background.  All others work correctly.

Use a column as parameter for a sds in another column; gridview

Hola, I have a gridview which is bound to a sds which returns 7 columns and I added two columns from the GUI.  What I want is to fill up the 9th column with DDLs and these  DDLS will get their data from a different sds which is using a stored procedure with a single parameter.  I created the 9th row, used template field, made the sds for 9th row, the stored_procedure, threw a DDL in Item template and all  I need now is to pass a parameter in the first column to the sds in the 9th column.  I can code this but i'm getting tired of aspx.cs :) and would like to do it from the GUI.

Pass a grid column value to a Modal

Hi, I have a requirement to hide a field called details on a gridview and show it in a jQuery modal dialog when users click on the Customer ID hyperlink. This grid is created programmatically. I will be hiding the details column via the CSS display:none property. Does some one know how can I pass the grid's selected hidden column value to the modal? Here is some of the code I started:

            GridView mygrid = new GridView();
            //.....................................More columns code for the grid

            //Here is where I need to pass the Details column value associated with the customer ID field selected to the Modal and open the Modal dialog.
            HyperLinkField linkField = new HyperLinkField();
            string[] dataNavigateUrlFields = { "CustomerID" };
            linkField.DataTextField = "CustomerID";

Bug: Does not change column type from nvarchar to ntext

Scenario: If you create a table with a column of type nvarchar, populate it with some content and try to modify it using the WebMatrix editor, from nvarchar to ntext, it does not display any error message or warning that this is not possible. It silently saves and reverts the change, back to nvarchar. Wasted some hours on this issue as I thought my column was ntext, but in fact was still nvarchar.

Expected behavior: It should change to ntext, or if SQL CE doesn't support that, it should notify the user that no change was applied.
