Add edit drop down menu so I can edit pdf files in SharePoint

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 26, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I have a pdf file that I'd like to open and edit.  The pdf file just opens, and doesn't ask if it should be opened as a read only or edit option.  My colleague is able to select edit mode as a drill down, but I can't figure out how to add this functionality into my document library... does anyone have a solution?

Edit in Microsoft SharePoint Designer on the drop-down menu doesn't work

I am trying to launch Designer via Site Actions > Site Settings > Master Pages Gallery > right click and select Edit In SharePoint Designer.  Instead of launching Designer it launchs Microsoft word.  I am the site collection administrator and I do have Designer on my computer.  Can anyone tell me why this short cut doesn't work?

There are no mistakes; every result tells you something of value about what your are trying to accomplish.

wss2.0 edit drop-down menu does not display

Hi all

I have a user who is unable to view the edit drop-down menu next to documents in a document library.

The user was able to view the drop-down before, but it seems since upgrading to either Office 2007 or IE7 that the problem is occuring. The user is an administrator on the site so it doesn't seem to be permissions issue.

I have had the user run an Office Diagnostics but this did not resolve the problem.

Any ideas please?

Not always prompted for read-only or EDIT mode, when opening files with IE7, Sharepoint 3.0

Hello Everyone,   We use Sharepoint 3.0 and when I click on a document I get a pop up prompt that asks me whether I want to open the file in READ-ONLY or EDIT mode.   I use a machine with XP Pro that is running IE7.   A user called me today, also running IE7, and when he clicks to open a Sharepoint file he gets a different prompt - a simpler one that just offers OPEN or SAVE.   I don't care that his prompt looks different - the problem is that he is able to open the file, make edits, but then when he closes the file (using Excel) he isn't able to save his changes.   Excel only provides a save-as option for him.   This isn't a permission problem with his ID.   When I login to our Sharepoint 3.0 system as him, with his password (from my machine), I get the usual Read-Only / Edit prompt and when I open a file in EDIT mode I am able to save my changes with no problem.   Any thoughts on this?   Chris

Powerpoint ppsx files open as read only in sharepoint with not option to edit

With Powerpoint 20007 in sharepoint(MOSS 2007) the PPSX files are opening in read only mode with no option to edit to be found. 2nd issue is ppsx files do not open on any persons computer as a show.  Is it possible to change this? How do I change this so I can edit the slides? Current "bad" solution is to save to local drive than upload them over the location  on sharepoint. Sharepoint permission to add files but not to edit

Hi all, I delevoped one certification process in Sharepoint 2007. I upload in a document list some training material to the user read. After this, the users must do a test composed by 10 question about the subjects inside the training material. If the user answer correcty to 8 or more questions, the user is certified and I create the certification word documenht in another document list based on a template document designed by me. I have a workflow to do this. The problem is that the workflow run when the user finish the questionary. I must give permission to the user that starts the workflow to add documents in the certification document library for the case if gets more than 8 questions correct to create the certification document, but I don't want that the user can change the documento to not change the score in it. So, for this document library, I must give access to add but not to edit documents. I create a new level permissions, and I checked the permissions to add and view, and I unchecked the edit and dele permissions, but when I do this, the workflow gives an error saying that don't have permission to create a item in that document list. If I check the edit checkbox, the workflow runs without problem but the user can change the document. How can I solve this problem? Regards, Daniel

Is it possible to add the drop down edit menu that appears from a single page to the page edit toolb

I am running Sharepoint 2007 and wondered if it is possible to add the "edit" drop down menu that appears from a single page—the one that contains edit properties, check out, publish a major version, etc—into the page edit toolbar, which is the one that contains the page, workflows, and tools drop downs.  I found the article that provided the code to add a "links" menu and quick buttons, but didn't know if it was possible to add the edit menu or, if so, what code would be necessary.

The reason I want to add it is for page creators to be able to access that menu's options without having to first navigate back to the pages library.

Thanks in advance!

Null values doesnot show up in custom edit form in a drop down choice menu

Hello guys,

I have a problem. I don't know why custom edit form is behaving like that.

I have a choice drop down with values  " ","Yes","No". For custom  new form, I can insert null values and everything is working fine.

But coming to this custom edit form which I created.  While editing, if we set a value to null and submit the form. It is getting the "Yes" as the value. It is skipping the null value and placing the "Yes" value. I have kept the default value for choice drop down as " ".(null too).

I don't know why it is not showing null value. Do guys have any idea or if came across anything like this. Please help

How to use a drop down list to edit in the standard Edit.aspx with DD?

Hey All,

I'm brand new to Dynamic Data and to ASP.NET.  I've been able to fumble around and get the calendar extender up and running and a few other customization options implemented, but I can't seem to get this drop down list to work - even after reading tons of online info.  The good news is that my web page/application is VERY simple, so hopefully you guys can help me out.  I'm working in VB btw.

I have a list of road projects submitted to me by local governments.  One of the fields is SponsoringAgency, which has a limited number of possible entries (the names of member governments).  Thus, when they submit a new project, or edit an existing one, I want to limit the input into the field "SponsoringAgency." I'm trying to use a dropdownlist because I'm familiar with it from Access, but it may not be the best approach.  Imagine you just setup a brand new, standard DD website, how would you get this to work?

Methods tried and failed (probably because I don't understand them fully):

UIHint - The closest I can get with this is an error saying that since SponsoringAgency isn't a Foreign Key, I'm out of luck.

Creating a SponsoringAgency Table - In my data layer, I created a second table with a list of government names.  I then tried se

Looking for an alt way to access the "edit menu"

I have discovered that personal views do not "stick" when accessing the Properties with through the "Type (icon linked to document) ".  --if user is using a personal view and they access the properties and then go back, the view reverts to the default view.

If accessing Properties through :"Name (linked to document with edit menu) "  the Personal views remain.

I am trying to deemphasize the document names in the library I am developing.  Is there another way to give the end user access to the "Edit Menu" apart from the :"Name (linked to document with edit menu) "  ?

you do not have permission to do this operation. Whenever I try to edit a page in sharepoint designe

Hi There,

I keep getting the error message "you do not have permission to do this operation" in  sharepoint designer 2007 (WSS 3.0), whenever I try to edit a page in Sharepoint Designer.

I am a farm admin, site collection admin and site admin, after the error message I can click OK and enter the Administrator password which has the same priviliges as me and it thinks about it for 5 minutes then returns the same error, eventually after several hours it will allow me to save changes but it's about a 1 in 20 chance.

As it does save sometimes it would appear to me that somehow it is losing the connection or temporarily losing the credentials. Does anybody have a clue where I can start to find out a solution to this problem. I get the feeling that something is corrupted somewhere but I don't what to look for and where.

Any help, tips, ideas gratefully received.

Thanks in advance.

PowerShell script to add/edit ContentEditor webpart on SharePoint 2010

Hi all, I'm new to PowerShell scripting with SharePoint. Following are the requirements that were given to me. Can any one direct me in the right direction interms of writing the script and how to save and execute the script? I am aware of Cmdlets. 1. Cycle through all sites in site collection 2. For each site, retrieve all document libraries 3. Look for specific CMV document library name (ie value communication, key business drivers, etc)          o add content editor web part if doesn't exist          o add/update appropriate description based on the document library name Thanks in advance...

Can not show image in Filter drop down menu in SPGridView - Sharepoint 2007

Hi, I can not show image in the filter drop down menu (at header) of SPGridView in Sharepoint 2007.  For example: I have 3 rows as "_layout/images/1.gif", "_layout/images/2.gif", "_layout/images/3.gif". When user click on the column's header, the SPGridView just displayed filter menu and it always displayed the text (_layout/images/1.gif) not an image as I expected. So please help me to solve this problem. Thanks a lot Dan

I am a Site Administrator, but I do not see Site Settings or Edit Page menu from Site Actions

Hi, I have been using MOSS for over 2 years, but I have not even heard or seen this kind of situation. I am a Site Administrator, but I do not see Site Settings or Edit Page menu from Site Actions menu, and I typed in http://mysitecollection:portnumber/_layouts/settings.aspx to go to setting page manually and looked around there. I confirmed that I am the site administrator, but when I go to Advanced Permissions, I do not see any checkbox beside each users. So basically, I am a Site Administrator on the site, but I am really NOT! What is going on here!?

Uploading Excel 2007 table into WSS 3.0 - How does SharePoint decide the column that is used to edit

Hi, In Excel 2007, there's an option to upload (export) an Excel table into SharePoint.  The range of cells have to be identified as a table.  In the Table ribbon, there's an Export button.  When I upload the Excel 2007 table, SharePoint (WSS 3.0) decides which column in the table will be linked to the properties dialog box for each line in the table.  It seems to be a sporadic decision on the part of SharePoint. Does anyone know how WSS 3.0 decides which column will be linked to properties?  And, is there any way to control this when uploading the file? Thanks! Thanks! Patti N.

Edit in Datasheet view does not work on one SharePoint 2007 farm, works on another.

The ability to edit in datasheet view on one of our environments no longer works.  I've tried different client machines on different builds and regardless of the install every library, list, etc. when attempting to edit in datasheet view shows as read only.  Our other environments those systems work as intended with those same clients. I've searched all over and haven't found anything that helped.  Any ideas?
