I am looking for the connection string on my Visual Basic Program. My problem is I forgot what named instance I gave my SQL server 2008 when I loaded it. Where can I find the NAMED INSTANCE inside my SQL server?

named instance sql server 2008 install on cluster

I have a production two-node cluster with sql server 2008 sp1 cu7 running over windows server 2008 sp2. If I were to install a new named instance on this live environment, would it impair the default sql server instance functionality? I'm not referring to processor/io while the install is in progress. My question specifically is would the install process by its nature bring down the default instance. I'm pretty sure it won't, but don't see any documentation that would confirm this. thanks.

I just installed SQL Server 2008 Management studio Express on my Vista machine.

i tried connecting to local machine using :

Can not connect to user instance of SQL Server 2008 Express with Advance Services in Visual Studio 2

I used SQL Server 2008 Express with Advanced Services (not SQL Server 2008 Express) in Visual Studio 2010 because it is the fast and easy way to developed and managed data-driven applications with powerful built-in reporting and full-text search functionality. I received Sql Server 2008 Service Pack 1 with Windows Update. It's ok if I connect to instance of SQL Server 2008 Express with Advance Services (with SP1) through SQL Server Management, but if I try to attach a database in Server Explorer (Visual Studio 2010), I get the following error: "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed." I'm stuck at this point. Is there a fix or a workaround? I've already tried deleting the 'C:\Users\Administrtor\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS' directory as mentioned in other posts, with no luck. The error.log at 'C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS\error.log' has the following relevant entries: 2010-09-01 14:44:10.47 Server      Error: 17156, Severity: 16, State: 1. 2010-09-01 14:44:10.47 Server      initeventlog: Could not initiate the EventLog Service for the key '3677F6D3-17C7-4F', last error code is 2. 2010-09-01 14:44:10.47 Server &

Rebooting one Instance on a SQL 2008 Server with multiple instances installed

Hello, Hoping someone can answer the following questions ... If I have SQL Server 2008 with multiple Named Instances configured on it, can I reboot one Named Instance without rebooting any of the other Named Instances, or without having to reboot the entire server ? For example, if I have an application that needs to be re-booted and it requires the Database to be re-booted. Regards, JD

PERFMON: Cannot see SQL Server 2008 R2 64 bit instance counters from remote machine

Hi, I have 2 machines X and Y. I am using X machine to run perfmon which will remote connect to Y machine and collect the counters for Y machine. I am surprised to see that I am not able to see the counters for SQL Server 2008 R2 64 bit when I remote connect the perfmon on X machine to Y machine. However, when I directly log in to Y machine and open perfmon, I can see the counters for SQL Server 2008 R2 64 bit !! What is not allowing me to see those counters while connecting remotely? I have same adminstrator rights on both machine for my login and use same login details to log into both machines. Both machiens X and Y are in same network and same domain. Any help will be appreciated.

Find '' in a table in MS SQL SERVER 2008

Hi,

I need to find white spaces in my table. the table contains 35 columns, therefore, I cannot check with AND or OR operator something like this

SELECT * FROM MS_Exchange_IS WHERE (TMZDIFF != '' AND Timestamp != ''..........)

Also I don't want to use cursors as it will greatly hamper the performance of my application.

Please suggest any other option.

Any link or pointers would be helpful

Thanks in Advance,

SQL Server Express 2008 instance fails to start

I've installed SQL Server Express with a named instance 'SQLSERVER2'. I was able to connect to it and reference it in the management studio. There was a problem though with Visual Studio 9 when running an ASP.NET web application that required connecting to the same instance. So, I went into the configuration manager to change the security level of the instance from network to local service. The change went through but could not restart the instance. That is what has created my next round of problems. I can't go in and change it back to network because the instance is permanently stopped. I cannot start it with the services manager. How can I fix this?

Here is the connection log:

SQL Server 2008 instance question

Hi,

Is it possible to install a SQL Server 2008 without giving it an instance name?  So that my dotnet applications' connection string won't need to change to "data source:dbServer\Instance;...", and still can use the "data source:dbServer;..."
Thanks for help.

I just removed one SQL Server 2008 instance from my Windows Server 2008.
The SQL Server is working, but however, I can't find the SQL Server Management Studio in that server.
Do I need to install extra SQL Server 2008 components or what?
Thanks for help.

Report Server Instance not shown in SQL 2008 R2 version for Configuration Manager

Hi,

I am using Windows Server 2003. I have installed SQL Server 2005 and SQL 2008 R2 version in the machine. The sql server 2008 R2 version has the instance name as SQL2008R2

I am trying to configure "Reporting services Configuration Manager" for the SQL 2008 r2. I gave the machine name and hit the Find button, I am not able to get the Report server instance name.

But when I gave the server name, i am able to browse to the folders page in the Internet explorer. so the server is available . I gave like this in the IE, and I am able to see the page:

http://Server IP/Reports_SQL2008R2/Pages/Folder.aspx

In the eventvwr, I found the following errror "The Drive:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.SQL2008R2\Reporting Services\ReportServer\RSReportServer.config file failed to load. This error may occur if the XML is not valid. "

How to get the Report server instance name in the configuration manager.

Thank you

Can't find CU3 for SQL Server 2008 R2 x64?!

Several MSDN articles points to the existence of a file by the name of "SQLServer2008R2_RTM_CU3_2261464_10_50_1734_x64"

However, I am unable to find the file and am in desperate need of it. We are unable to modify any of our SQL Server Agent Jobs due to the issue here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2315727/!!

Here's the link to the CU3 downloads: http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBHotfix.aspx?kbnum=2261464&kbln=en-us

It contains four x64 downloads. The one we need (named above) is not present in the list. This is extremely frustrating!

Thanks,

Dave
