SQL2005 and SQL2008 installed on the same environment - Application problems connecting to SQL2005 d

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 18, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

We have an environment with SQL 2005 and SQL2008 instances - failover 2 node cluster 64 bit.

We installed a new web application and we cannot connect to the databases on the SQL2005 instance.

We are able to connect to the database using the same credentials used by the web site using a udl file and using SQL Management Studio. However, the web site tells that we do not have authorisation to access the web site.

I wonder whether there is something to do with the fact that we have the two SQL versions on the same environment.

We had a similar problem on another mixed environment. On that particular case the connection failed on a SSIS package. We tried the same package on a SQL2005 and the package ran.

If the mixture of the two versions is affecting new applications to connect to the databases, is there a way around to resolve this problem? Unfortunately, the environments contain live databases.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Does "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server" get different versions for SQL2005 and SQL2008?

We know SQLServer OLE DB have two driver types: SQL Native Client and Microsoft OLE DB Provider. I know The former one have different versions for SQLServer2005 and SQLServer 2008 (SQLNCLI.DLL, SQLNCLI10.DLL), right? And for latter one, does it have different versions? I only got SQLOLEDB.dll under system32 folder, but have no idea whether it have different versions. Can some one help me?   Thanks Spring

Remove SQL2005 from domain and then add a new SQL2008 back using the same name?

We have an email complaince application using a SQL 2005 server which is part of the domain.  I want to build a new Windows 2008 / SQL 2008 server to replace the priginal SQL 2005.

Now to change the SQL connection within the application itself is a nightmare.  With this I am curious if I could first, shut down the compliance application so no data is going to the current DBs.  Next, backup these DBs and then shut down the current SQL 2005 server.

Now, build on new hardware a Windows / SQL 2008 server.  Go into AD and remove the original SQL2005 server and then simplay re add it using the same server name.  Once this is done, join the new 2008 server to the domain using the old server name.  Reload SQL and create the original security accounts.  Once this is done, create the databses and then restore using the backups.

Now the hope is that once this is all done, that I bring up the complaince application and it just connects to the new server and is happy as a clam.

Does this sound solid or am I looking to create other severe headaches by doing this and should just fight through the rebuilding SQL and then messing with the application to point it to the new server?

Slowness writing to database after upgrade from SQL2005 to SQL2008/R2

We have recently upgraded our SQL server and moved from SQL2005 to SQL2008/R2.

A program we use continuously inserts rows of data into a table in the database.

The process used to write approximately 200 lines of data per second, but since upgrading it will only write one line per second.

We have tried to mirror the configuration of the server as accurately as possible, but does anyone know of a setting that could be causing the data to be written so slowly?

Problems connecting stored procedure to Crystal Reports

I am working on updating a reporting system that uses Crystal Reports.  All of the 250+ reports were created in CR 8 and I have been opening up the old files in Visual Studio 2005 and updating the database location.  All I have had to do with all connections to views and even a couple of stored procedures is create a new connection to the database and then update the old report's datasource location.  The reason I need to update the location is so that the .NET application will use the correct driver.  Everything has worked fine up until I got to one stored procedure.  The old version of the report works perfectly with the stored procedure, but when I try to run the report using VS 2005 I keep getting errors.

First I connected to the database using the Oracle OLE DB provider, then updated the location of the stored procedure in the report.  It then prompts me for the two parameter values for the stored procedure, both of which I keep as NULL so that the report parameters will be passed to the procedure.  Then I get the following error:

Query Engine Error: 'ADO Error Code: 0x

Problems moving an InfoPath form from a DEV system to QA environment

We developed an InfoPath form using a local DEV environment.  The site collection under which the form was developed was http://server1/.

We are now attempting to deploy this form to a TEST environment that uses a slightly different structure for the collection, namely http://server2/sites/sitecol1.

In both cases the site that contains the form is /fin (so we were using http://server1/fin in DEV and want to use http://server2/sites/sitecol1/fin in TEST).

The form contains VBA code and so requires admin-based deployment via Central Administration, so to deploy to TEST we:

1. Publish the form against the TEST server using InfoPath Designer

2. Upload the form using Central Administration > Application Managment > Manage Form Templates

3. After upload, we activate the form for the site collection http://server2/sites/sitecol1/

4. The form is then associated with a Form Library

When we try to create an instance of the form within this library we get the following error when we click on New to create the form instance:

The following location is not accessible, because it is in a differ

Connecting to Sql2008 from vb6 using sqlncli

I used to connect to a sql2005 database from Vb6 with this connectionstring, using sqlncli:   "Provider=SQLNCLI;MARS Connection=True;Integrated Security=SSPI;Initial Catalog=Y1;Data Source=thinkpadfp2\instancename;"   Today i uninstalled Sql2005 and installed Sql2008 RTM.   Using the same connectionstring, now i receive the error:   "3076 - Unable to find provider".   In vb.net i can succesfully connect using sqlclient namespace, the problem is only in vb6.   sqlncli is correctly installed.   Any suggestion?   Thanks.

Problem importing text files with binary zeros (0x00) via SSIS(SQL2005). It is all fine when using D

Hi.   There is a "text" file generated by mainframe and it has to be uploaded to SQL Server. I've reproduced the situation with smaller sample. Let the file look like following: A17     123.17  first row          BB29    493.19  second             ZZ3     18947.1 third row is longer And in hex format: 00:  41 31 37 20 20 20 20 20 ? 31 32 33 2E 31 37 20 20  A17     123.17  10:  66 69 72 73 74 20 72 6F ? 77 0D 0A 42 42 32 39 20  first row??BB29 20:  20 00 20 34 39 33 2E 31 ? 39 20 20 73 65 63 6F 6E     493.19  secon30:  64 0D 0A 5A 5A 33 20 20 ? 20 20 20 31 38 39 34 37  d??ZZ3     1894740:  2E 31 20 74 68 69 72 64 ? 20 72 6F 77 00 69 73 20  .1 third row is 50:  6C 6F 6E 67 65 72       ?                          longer          I wrote "text" in quotes because sctrictly it is not pure text file - non-text binary zeros (0x00) happen sometimes instead of spaces (0x20).   The table is: CREATE TABLE eng ( src varchar (512) )   When i upload this file into SQL2000 using DTS or Import wizard, the table contains: select src, substring(src,9,8), len(src) from eng <               src                ><substr>             <len> A17     123.17  first row           123.17                  25BB29                                493.19                  22ZZ3     18947.1 third row           18947.1                 35   As one can see, everything was importe

In a SQL2005 Reporting Subscription I need to revert the parameter back to the default value "overri

Hi, In a SQL2005 Reporting Subscription I need to revert the parameter back to the default value "override-default." This value was updated to a specific value and now I am unable to have the report updated daily with the new data.  Within Report Manager, drill into the specific report, click on the properites tab, and chose the second link on the left "Parameters."  For the value in question (DataID) someone unchecked the "Has Defalult" button.  This results in the "Use Default" check box being removed from the UI in the Subscription tab.  I can get the Use Defalut box back by entering a specific value in the 'defalut value' but the report runs against that one value (instead of updating daily.) Before the "Has Defalult" was unchecked, the Defalut Value is a buttton, which says "Override Defalut."  It is this 'button' that I am trying to get back. I've googled this and looked thru MS kb without luck.  (I think it maybe a matter of using the right language...) Thank you for your reply.   Victoria

Unable to tranfer jobs from sql2000 to sql2005

Hi   Im in the process of upgrading my sqlserver 2000 to 2005.I want to migrate all the jobs from sql2000 to 2005. I scripted the job (right click job--->all tasks--->generate sqlscript). I ran the same script on sql2005,i was getting an error like this   "Msg 515, Level 16, State 2, Procedure sp_add_job, Line 137 Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'owner_sid', table 'msdb.dbo.sysjobs'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails. The statement has been terminated."   What does the error mean? cant i run the same script generated in sql2000  on sql2005. Wht is the approach to transfer the jobs from sql2000 to sql2005 ? I know ther is one more way i can transfer. It is through sqlserver business intelligence development studio and using transfer job task. But i  dont want to use that.I want to script the job and execute it on sql2005.   Regards Arvind

Questions on SQL2005 implementation

Hope someone can help me answer my DBA's questions. "We are in the process of creating the plan for the move to SQL 2005.   We are now leaning more towards a flash conversion of all the SQL databases to SQL 2005 rather than an application by application phased in approach.  We currently have a SQL 2005 instance loaded to the ' ServerName' server with the original default instance of sql200 still in use.  Since the sql2005 server is considered a named instance it currently must be used by referring to the full instance name of ‘ServerName\ ServerName 5’. I have just checked online and cannot find any valid way to rename an existing sql server, which for our current situation would be ideal.  My original idea was to connect all the databases to the SQL 2005 instance, have the SQL 2000 software uninstalled, and rename the named sql2005 instance to websql so that all the applications will run without modification.  I have just found that this will not be possible.  According to everything I found, the sql server cannot be renamed.  The software must be uninstalled and reinstalled with the desired name.   Our plan of the flash conversion requires that we list the possible steps to accomplish this conversion based on the knowledge that we can’t rename the sql server.  Can you give us your take on
