Changing Default Language for British Date Format

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 18, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

After reading several topics about Datetime formats from US-English to British, I got more confused.  I have successfully changed Default Language on my local machine's SQL Server Express using this:

EXEC sp_configure 'default language', '23'

But I can't change it on a Server side.  It prompts me to run 'RECONFIGURE' again and when I do I am getting this error:

"Address Windowing Extensions (AWE) is not supported in this edition of SQL Server."

Changing Date format in Filter toolbar

i have added a toolbar to a Data View Web Part and enabled the Filter option. When i click on the filter, the Due Date field displays choices as Saturday, September 11, 2010. Within the DWVP I have the format set to mm/dd/yyyy, the differening formats seem to prevent the filter from working. How I can change the format in the filter dropdown ?

Thanks in advance

How To Set a Date Format In GridView Using ASP.NET 2.0

A very common desire is to set a column of a gridview to display just the month, day and year of a DateTime type. The problem is the by default, the HtmlEncode property of the boundfield attribute (
The problem is that if this field is enabled, you can not pass format information to the boundfield control. That is, if you try the following code, you will not get the desired result.

Problem with changing language using culture info

I'm using the following msdn article to use different languages in my web application:

I'm following the instructions step by step in VS 2010, and it creates the resource files exactly how it's supposed to.

However, when I run the program it just doesn't apply it. I don't see the different values from the resource file.

If I leave my resource file name as sample.aspx.resx, it works. But when I change it to sample.aspx.en-us.resx, it doesn't work. I'm supplying culture from the aspx page's Culter and UICulture properties. I'm being very careful in choosing the correct file name, as that could be the issue,  but it just doesn't work. I also tried changing the culture in the backend code this way:

how can I make field with date in format: dd/mm/yyyy ?

I have in model:[DisplayName("Publication date")] [DisplayFormat(DataFormatString = "{0:dd/MM/yyyy}", ApplyFormatInEditMode = true)] [Required(ErrorMessage = "Publication date is required.")] public DateTime publication_date { get; set; } And in view:<div> <%: Html.LabelFor(model => model.publication_date) %> </div> <div> <%: Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.publication_date, new { @class = "datepicker" })%> <%: Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.publication_date) %> </div> But when I write in this field date: 30/11/2009 I see validation error: The value '30/11/2009' is not valid for publication_date.

Not Null Date Default

I'm one of the people that try to avoid nulls when ever possible, usually using defaults.  This is especially important since my apps do a lot of data exchange with external entities often involving flat files.  A flat file can't distinguish between a null or an empty value so to ensure consistancy between data types in both systems I try to make sure every field has some value.  (E.g., If I have a null or empty string in a char field type a CSV flatfile shows ',,' for both.  The target system might interpret this as an empty string or a null; I have no direct control.  This could result in a null in one system and '' in another losing consistancy.  For charactor and number types this is rarely a problem if I communicate that there are no null fields in the data, but for dates it often becomes an issue. Is there a industry standard approach to managing "empty dates" so I can make date fields not null and empty? Thanks

Changing default permissions for Owners group

When a site is created within SharePoint (and permissions are not inherited from the parent), a default Owners, Members and Visitors group is created.  The default Owners group is assigned "Full Control".  I want this to default to a custom permission level that I have created called "Full Control - Limited".  What changes do I need to make to ensure that all new Owner groups are automatically assigned this custom permission level and NOT "Full Control"? EDIT - I have a console application which sweeps through all of the sites and changes all "Full Control" to "Full Control - Limited" but I really don't want to set a Scheduled Task each night to fix the new groups.

DataContractJsonSerializer changing my date

A user enters a date in a form, but when I pass the date through an AJAX json call, my date is getting changed by the DataContractJsonSerializer. Here's my AJAX call:function Save(){ //Convert date to milliseconds from from 1/1/1970 - necessary for passing a date through JSON var d = "09/01/2010 05:00"; myDate = new Date(d); myTicks = myDate.getTime(); var message = { MessageID: $("#MessageID").val(), MessageDate: '\/Date(' + myTicks + ')\/', }; $.ajax({ url: "<%= Url.Action("SaveMessage") %>", type: "POST", dataType: "json", data: $.toJSON(message), contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", success: function(result) { if (result && result.success) { // } } }); } Here's my serialization code:public override void OnActionExecuting(ActionExecutingContext filterContext){ if ((filterContext.HttpContext.Request.ContentType ?? string.Empty).Contains("application/json")) { var serializer = new DataContractJsonSerializer(RootType); filterContext.ActionParameters[Param] = serializer.ReadObject(filterContext.HttpContext.Request.InputStream); }} It's changing my dates to GMT. So if the user ente

How do I format a date time field in a CQWP to YY-MM-DD ?

Hi. I have been trying to get the date-time to look good for some time now, but have failed. I have a Content Query web part that picks up article pages from a page library. The pages contains a field called 'article date'. I want to show just the 'Title' and the 'Article date'. Doing this default gives me: My title 10-09-03 00:00:00 I want it to be: My title 10-09-03 Is this possible? I'm starting to realize that I probably have to edit the xsl styles for this webpart but if thats the answer, how do I do that? ThanksThomas Balkeståhl - Technical Specialist - SharePoint

snp file retains format of default printer from which it was created

This seems to be the case: MS Access 2000/2003 generates a snp report via VBA (Windows 2000/XP is the general environment for the enterprise).  The report is emailed to another individual.  When the recipient tries to print the report the print options apparently force the print job into the printer's override tray as "Print to Heavy Paper"; thereby causing the printer to wait for a user to place paper into the override tray (the printer is in use by a number of users). This anomaly does not happen with snp reports sent from other users, only from the two who are using one particular printer as their default printer.  As this relates to a remote customer, I have not so far requested the [affecting] sender users try using a different printer.  Either way it causes someone to perform extra steps -- Sender: if the printer selection was to be changed each time a snp report is created; Recipient: each time they need to print the particular report they need to go into printer options and override the Heavy Paper issue by selecting letter paper (and always be alert that the particular report came from the two particular sender users -- whereas once the recipient user sends the print job, it's too late; they need to run over to the printer to insert paper into the override tray to avoid a backlog of printer jobs). The site's IS team has bee

Format Date in TextBoxFor

I've been trying to format the date in a view form in a textboxfor and it seems everything I try doesn't seem to work. I found this great partialview example but it doesn't work when applied to EditorFor. Again works great when using the DisplayFor HTML helper method but still spits out the time at the end when trying to format for a textbox.If anyone has any suggestions or answers I would be greatly appreciative.Jim

Date format for Year, Year-Month, and Date (Year-Month-Day) where input is not known

I have a requirement to capture historical events in a table. Now some events will have only Year, some Year/Month, and remaining where Date is known. We should be able to store them in the column and be able to sort etc. When publishing the information, we should be able to publish as was the input, Year only, Year-Month only, or Date. I looked at the newer Date data type. I can insert a 4 digit year, but on retrieving it is YYYY-01-01. I do not know if it has input YYYY or YYYY-MM-DD and is indeed a Date or a Year. I am trying to avoid saving the format information in another column or something. For sorting, when records have same Year, I would have another column to do relative sorting... So question is - what are my best options with SQL/Entity Framework combo. And what others have done, when encountering similar - if any. Thanks in advance. --Sharad
